On-tap at Hollister Brewing

Pours a lightly hazed golden color with a fluffy white head. A pleasant spice aroma to this with coriander and clove notes. Hints of banana as well as a solid pear character. Lots of sweet malt and sugar, too. The taste is also excellent. Banana, pear, and apple give a nice fruitiness which goes well with the spiciness and the yeast. Bready malt with some sugar give a good sweetness. Really a good beer.

On tap at Hollister 2/5/10

Pours a hazy golden color with a decent head and a little bit of lacing.

Aroma is fruity like bananas and fairly sweet.

Its not until I taste the beer that I have any idea what style it is. The description on the menu just called it a golden ale so I thought maybe it was an american strong ale with some fruity notes but the flavor is Belgian enough that I opted for Tripel. Aside from the banana there is a tiny bit of spiciness and a hint of something sour. Possibly from the alcohol, possibly from wheat (if there is any in there), I dont know. But I don't think that its from the yeast or any bacteria.

Body is medium and well carbonated for the style. The hints of sourness bring the quality of this beer down over all. It could stand to use a bit of hop presence too. Once is enough for this one.
