Notes / Commercial Description:
Who Xiquic was, is a bit hard to explain - but we all know the hero twins: Wayne Wambles and Jacob Storm - headbrewers of Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL and Amager Bryghus, Denmark respectively. Since his first visit at Amager back in 2011 Wayne has been quite the idol for us. We don’t believe it’s possible to find anyone with a bigger heart in brewing - combined with the utmost passion and sense for detail. Therefore it was a great honor to us that Wayne accepted our invitation to come brew at Amager Bryghus - even on his birthday! A recipe was created from what seemed like an endless stream of emails. The Cigar City signature cedar wood was ordered and a birthday cake was baked. We had a fun day - we hope you’ll have fun enjoying this double mash cedar infused black pepper Imperial Stout, yeah, no kiddin’. It’s a bit of a beast - but a gentle one.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Crystal Rye, Crystal 50/100, Crystal 70/140, Crystal 100/200, Black, Chocolate Rye, Roasted Barley. Cedar, Black pepper. Hops: Citra, Centennial, Chinook, East Kent Goldings, Herkules. Yeast: UK-ale.

A: black & beautiful, brown head & some lacing
N: very fragrant..dark chocolate, roast, cedar wood, vanilla, only a hint of pepper
T: roast, some chocolate, wood & vanilla...but too much black pepper to be a sipper. The pepper fast overtakes the other flavors as it warms up. Lacks balance. Over the top, and not in such a good way.
MF: filling, heavy.
O: too much black pepper to be consumed and sipped on its own. For sure one to have with food, heavier foods (red meat for carnivores, potatoes or heavy stew otherwise). I'm a big fan of Amager's, but not of this beer. Not horrible, but not to be had without big heavy foods to compete with heavy taste of black pepper.

Pours a bit of a thick viscous black with a firm tan "chocolate malt" head. Pretty.

Nose is fresh "clean" coffee - simple fruity coffee tones but inviting

Mouthfeel is rich and creamy and inviting.

Taste is big, bold burnt charcoal, burnt coffee.

Finish is all burnt charcoal and long lasting.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some black chocolate notes with some light roasted malt with very subtle spicy notes. Body si quite full for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. I was expecting spicy peppery notes and cedar to be more pronounced flavours but I can’t’ say that they did play a big role.

a: a deep, rich black color that looks a bit silky and a bit like motor oil. 1/2 finger tan, solid head

s: cedar and pepper for sure in the aroma. milk chocolate, cola, some caramel malts, a little brown sugar

t: follows the nose. cedar is dominant upfront, that that pepper spice really asserting itself behind that. there is a kick of roasted malts behind that which brings a mild bitterness to play, and it has an interesting dynamic with the cedar in here. behind that, at the front of the tongue, is a small milk chocolate presence - almost like chocolate milk which adds a touch of sweetness at the end. finish is slightly dry, and full of cedar and roasted malts

m: medium mouthfeel. a bit syrupy. carbonation level is a bit higher than i expected for a beer this style at this abv, BUT that is not a criticism - level works with the cedar in here

o: really interesting beer here. pepper always adds a unique dynamic to beers that can become overwhelming too quickly, however the pepper in here is subdued enough to add flavor without dominating. the cedar, to me, is really the strongest presence in the aroma and flavor, and that is something pretty unique. i would definitely recommend trying this, if possible. not only is it unique, but it is a good beer as well

Oh man was this beer not for me. The pepper was just flat out overwhelming. That being said if you are a fan of pepper or have tried pepper flavored beers before and liked them then by all means give this one a try. It's just not my thing

Nice looking beer here. Too much black pepper on the taste though. It would complement it more if the ABV was a bit higher. That would have been wonderful. But great brew to try.

Would buy again if the price was better. At $13, it's a bit much to spend on something that's not extraordinary in taste.

Love it, great offering. Will have to try another Amager beer.

This beer pours beatifully into a large goblet.
Great big four inch head quickly disappearing. I can smell pepper in the nose of this bad boy.
Well first taste is like ur drinking straight pepper, really overwhelming. Decent mouthfeel, but pepper is gonna for e me to drain this beer ;(
If you love pepper give it a shot but youve been warned, big disappointment and it looked so beautiful in the goblet.

Big black pepper aroma and flavor which at first I really liked, but as I drank more and more grew a bit too harsh, distracted from the smoothness i was expecting on the finish.
