Collaboration with Surly Brewing Company
For quite some time the Amager crew has been discussing this question: which person is the most rock’n’roll in the whole craft beer world - is it Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds or is it Todd Haug of Surly Brewing? In the end it wasn’t really all that difficult to decide since only Todd has played for Laura Dern in a David Lynch movie (yeah, Nicolas Cage was in that same movie, but since when did he count?) AND Todd plays the guitar in both a speed metal band and a stoner band. Add to that that Todd and his wife Linda are some of the nicest people to hang out with.
So Todd, here’s to you: "Todd - The Axe Man" - a potent IPA loaded with fresh American aroma hops on a base of rich Golden Promise malt, Surly’s signature malt. Raise a glass to Todd, world class brewer - and master of the axe! Bonus facts about Todd: yes, he DID actually have a perm in his younger days (his wife confirms) and he does indeed love cats an awful lot.
Malt: Golden Promise
Hops: Herkules, Citra, Mosaic
Yeast: US-ale

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy. Moderat white head. Strong aroma of citrus and tropical fruits, a hint of tomcat. Light bodied for its strength. Hoppy flavour, medium dry, some tropical fruits, distinct notes of grapefruit, bitter finish.

Brewed in Denmark July 2020
Arrived in my frig same month.
WHAM! Officially 6.5%, but this Columbus, Mosaic, Citra west coast style taste combo packs an amazingly unique punch to the pallet.
Drink fresh,
Drink frequently.
Worth flying for.
Todd Definitely Da Maan.

Pours a hazy, deep orange coloration with a small, frothy head. Smells of biscuity malt and grassy, resinous hops, with tropical and lighter citrus notes of mango, pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is a great balance of biscuity malt and bitter and resinous, yet somewhat sweet and juicy tropical and lighter citrus hops, being dominated by notes of mango, pineapple and pine, with lighter grapefruit, tangerine and a certain grassiness also coming through. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some pineapple, grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is a rather nice IPA that with a strong WC character, but also a certain NE influence, perhaps not unlike Heady Topper. It's quite bitter and resinous, but also lacks a strong caramel malt backbone and has got a rather hazy look and juicy tropical fruit notes to it, while the mouthfeel is somewhere inbetween a WC and NE IPA. Yet this doesn't feel neither here nor there at all and manages a rather enjoyable balance between the two styles. Pretty awesome brew, actually.

I was excited to find this on draft in Copenhagen. Not quite the same as the cans I have had from Surly brewing (where it is still being produced) .
A big fruity hop rush on first sip. The initial sweetness gives way to a delightful piney finish.

Pours a hazy dark yellow with fine, soft foam.
Smell is dank and grassy with notes of peaches, pine and resin.
Taste is piney and grassy with a robust bitterness. There are notes of dank peaches and grapefruit roaming around, but this is mostly a no nonsense, hoppy IPA. No juicy crap here.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, a good, solid IPA, more west coast than anything else. Well balanced and tasty.
