Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours jet black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of tan head that slowly fades away.

Smell: A roasty and sweet dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. Dark roasted barley malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, smoke, biscuit, and caramel with yeast. Sweet scent of molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla. Scent of black licorice, tobacco, and leather. Dark fruit hints of raisin, fig, prune, and cherry. Light hints of earthy hops. A very good rich aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a rich, roasty, and sweet dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, smoke, caramel, and toffee along with some yeast. Sweet taste of molasses, vanilla, and brown sugar. Good notes of black licorice along with some subtle tobacco and leather. Dark fruit undertones of fig, raisin, cherry, and prune. Some earthy hop bitterness towards the finish. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, creamy, and somewhat sticky. Alcohol heat is mild.

Overall: A great Imperial Stout. Good roasty and sweet dark malt flavors.

Tasting notes from 08/05/16

Appearance - Pours midnight black with a cocoa powder colored, quarter finger width head. Fair retention, resulting in a mostly barren surface and a thin ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Aroma hits on some metallic notes, toffee, booze, raisin and a hint of roast.

Taste - Follows the nose a bit. Butter toffee can be found throughout, along with quite a bit of raisin. Lots of booziness. Caramel hits in the back end. Sweet finish with mild astringency.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Bone dry finish.

Overall - Pretty tasty Russian Impy. Classic euro flavors, especially with the strong toffee presence. Pretty odd considering the style, but it works.

Dark black brew; nice dark head with good retention.

Tons of licorice and roast on the nose; molasses, brown sugar, and toffee; a touch of char. Huge stout.

Flavor follows: hugely roasty stout, and quite sweet. Reminiscent of Evil Twin stouts.

Thick, full mouthfeel; a touch of heat from the noticeable (but smooth) alcohol.

nice roasty, cocoa, pretty solid nose. Taste is similar, but a bit hot and a touch sweet. Not milk stout sweet, just not super dry. Thick creamy mocha head of pretty fair carbonation and a decent creamy body.

500mL bottle poured to Westmalle glass. Very dark brown, head beige and diminishes quickly. Nose is light, roast malt, vanilla. Taste is chocolate, Belgian yeast, bitter. Heavy feel and above average carbonation.

On tap at The Beer Trappe, Lexington

A- pours pitch black with a small creamy khaki colored head that reduces to a ring around the glass

S- roasted coffee mixes with dark chocolate and molasses, notes of smoked wood and licorice close it out

T- bold notes of espresso and licorice up front, followed by dark chocolate and charred malt, burnt toast, toasted walnut, toasted marshmallow & a smoky dry finish

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and a velvety finish

O- a straight up roasty, chocolate double stout that hides the ABV pretty well

From a growler via Eightball Brewing in a snifter. This monster pours a deep dark coal like the
band Mercyful Fate with a modest head of light brown foam that settles to a thin ring and subtle
pool with light lacing. Nose of coffee, chocolate, bittering hops, light licorice, and light char.
Flavors hit the perfect notes for the style with dark cocoa riffing off of the flavors like Artillery's
"By Inheritance" on the notes of coffee while King Diamond talks trash about his Grandmother
with smooth herbal hop notes lightly touched by licorice flavors as mellow as White Lions "Broken
Heart". Excellent mouth feel; smooth, mellow, lightly warming, subtly creamy, low carbonation,
and near perfect for the style.

Overall, excellent....and better than King Diamond's operatic mischief.

Gotta hand it to the Danes, they know their metal!

Cheers!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a super large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some good amount of lacing. Aroma is quite intense with some smoky notes, some tobacco, some super dry roasted malt and bitter notes. Taste is also a mix between some tobacco notes with smoky notes and dry bitter roasted malt is a bit surprising but quite complex. Body is below average for style with great carbonation. Weird mix with intense flavors. Drinkability is maybe lower then I would have liked but still an enjoyable stout.

Pours black, smells like drunken dark fruit. I don't really care for these notes, I'd rather have chocolate and coffee....tastes like it smells. It is smooth and easy to drink.

On tap at Swillburger/The Playhouse in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a very dark and inviting black, with a very small head, and no lacing.

Smells like a burly and gnarly stout- heavy black roasted malt, slight dried fruit, a kiss of alcohol, and lots of coffee.

This appears to a version of Funk Metal with straight English yeast. It's wonderful- lots of charred and roasted malt, a hint of vanilla, raisin and plum, and silky coffee. It's so drinkable, even with the high alcohol.

This is pretty thick bodied, with a pretty creamy mouthfeel.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one- it's really quite excellent stuff.
