Pours a nice warm opaque sable with a thick, fine-bubbled, light tan head that sticks around for a while. Aroma is strongly of molasses and miso, with hints of chocolate and smoke. Flavor is rather sweet, but not cloying, and has nutty, molasses, smoky, caramel and chocolate components as well as a hint of coffee and a bit of hoppy bitterness. Fairly thick texture is rather smooth and fizzy, leaving behind a nice tingle.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color—only slight traces of red are visible near the bottom of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a short tan head that quickly faded away, leaving only a collar of moderate sized bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of licorice are present in the nose.
T: As in the smell, the stout is dominated by flavors of licorice and has additional notes of burnt malts and tobacco ashes.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and yet a little thin on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a lot of complexities in both its aroma and taste for something that seems a little lighter in body than what you would normally expect. It kind of reminds me like a "lite" version of a Russian Imperial Stout.
