From Mikkeller Shop. In Teku glass. Playing Pillars of Eternity. Very balanced, without anything standing out but everything well integrated and a pleasant alcoholic burn feeling that improves it. To drink with care as it goes up to the head really strong

Deep rich black - though not exactly thick, light beige colored head.

Aromas of dark licorice, anise, smoke, roast, vodka soaked dark chocolate... kind of an Old Rasputin like smell.

Flavors come alive with a smoked flavor, soy sauce, black olive, chocolate syrup diluted in half by vodka, caramel, tons of alcohol burn and some light peat. Burnt popcorn on the finish.

Feel is thick but not destructive, a moderate carbonation, nice dry alcohol finish.

For sure a bathtub beer you sit and think about. It's not an easy drinker but that's the point.

500ml bottle - I do appreciate the clear and lucid English marketing babble on the label from this particular Danish brewery.

This beer pours a solid black abyss, with scant red-cola basal edges, and two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy light brown head, which leaves some rocky promontory lace around the glass as it eventually subsides.

It smells of roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, a prominent grapey and plummy dark orchard fruitiness, some further free-range ashiness, stale cafe-au-lait, Scandinavian black licorice candies, and weak earthy, leafy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, biscuity toffee, boozed-up black stone fruit, medium chocolate syrup, wet char, zingy anise spice, and more edgy piney, leafy, and perfumed floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly tame in its workaday frothiness, the body a solid heavyweight, and generally smooth, with maybe a bit of the big wowee sauce contingent perhaps marring the surface luster here. It finishes well off-dry, the toasty caramel and chocolate esters ruling the lingering day.

Overall, this is a bang-on Nordic Imperial Stout, the booze pretty much kept in check, with lots of balanced fruity and roasted flavours abounding. Tasty, but a slow sipper, as that 20-proof alcohol, is, in fact still alcohol, yaknowwhutimean, Olav?

375 ml bottle. Pours black, thin tan head, a little soapy lace. Bitter dark chocolate, earthy wood, stem, ends with a little bit of sweet lactose. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Overall a very solid stout, different but tasty.

L: Jet black color, 2-3 finger light brown head, good head retention, minimal carbonation.

S: Chocolate and booze.

T: Sweet chocolate, slightly bitter on the back end.

F: Quite smooth for a 10% ABV imperial stout, very drinkable.

O: Another great beer from Amager Bryghus :)

A very solid stout. It is halfway between the strong unsweet stouts with sometimes tobacco aromas and the chocolate/coffee classic sweet stouts. There is chocolate in the beer, but you feel mostly the coffee/roasted aromas, with a hint of liquorish. It is not as drinkable as other classic stouts as say, from Omnipollo, Samuel Smith, or Lost Abbey for example, but it is quite good. However it's so rare I'm not sure it's worth seeking it out for outrageous prices.

Oh this stuff is so freakin good. Appropriate to Imperial Stout, Royally Tasty. Appearance has a thick long lasting light brown head. Aroma is black malt, black olives, licorice, leather. Flavor's like nose, plus some sweet and bitter, those in perfectly balanced amounts. Body is so amazingly smooth. Only slight veiled hints of power. Wahoo!

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at mrbubbler's tasting.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, and caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice mix of chocolate and caramel characteristics.

Serving type: bottle.

Poured form a bottle into a modified tulip glass.
A - Deep darkness, beautiful dance of carbonation is present but not overactive.
Crowned with a light cocoa creamy head. Lacing trail shows no sign of quitting.
S - Dark fruits, fig, medium chocolate not to dark, a slight hint of toffee. Malt bill
is not weighted to any one area. The nose opens up with time, leading to hints of
alcohol and mint.
T - Danish stout for sure. As big as it is still a tight flavor, chocolate malt, lingers only slightly,
the hop bite has a touch of pine, maybe juniper.
F - The initial pass is rich bodied, the middle has a quickness and feels like it wants to run away,
Finally the end has an intriguing desire to stay, the linger is quite delightful. Not to sharp on the tongue.
Definitely that Danish approach, slightly whimsical and refined.

O - A fine example, not to far a field from Stanby of the Dr. each a fine example.

A nice treat on this cool autumn morning

Cheers
