Not your everyday Doppelbock! This unique Doppelbock was brewed to showcase the fresh roasted Yellow Caturra MauiGrown coffee from Ka’anapali, Maui. This beer is rich in pale malt character and brings slight sweetness to compliment the smooth character of the coffee. The darker color comes from the heavy coffee addition.

12 oz can bought from Lifesource in Salem OR
$2.99
Pours an amber/crimson beer with a lovely thick and creamy eggshell white head.
Wow definitely fresh ground medium roast coffee ( kona?), hazelnuts and toast.Great.
Taste similar but sweeter...more milky..again good.
Mouth feel is excellent smooth and low carbs..like drinking a good iced coffee .I dont get the low scores this is a really nice coffee accented beer.

I am winnowing through my backlog here at Chez Woody & since I came upon one Maui CAN, I thought that I would follow it up with another in furtherance of The CANQuest (tm).
From the CAN: "Limited Release"; "Real Hawaiian Beer"; "Handcrafted Ales & Lagers Brewed with Aloha"; "Not your everyday Doppelbock! This unique Doppelbock was brewed to showcase the fresh roasted Yellow Caturra MauiGrown coffee from Ka’anapali, Maui. This beer is rich in pale malt character and brings slight sweetness to compliment the smooth character of the coffee. I was anxious to Crack! open the vent on this one since a) I don't see many CANned Doppelbocks & b) I don't see much from Maui. I then engaged in a Gussie Busch Glug, forming two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention, leaving nice lacing in its wake. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was really roasty with a strong coffee presence. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste reminded me of the Salted Caramel Coffee that I recently got from Bones Coffee Company! Loads of coffee with loads of rich, malty caramel-like sweetness. It was a very smooth beer that made up for my having missed out on morning coffee today. I think that the take-away on this one is that you need to enjoy the taste of coffee. It is not out of style, but it is not going to be the sweet sugar bomb that youmight be hoping for/expecting. Finish was semi-sweet, not quite semi-dry. It was unquestionably a Doppelbock. Mmm.

This one pours a slightly dark golden orange color, with a small head, and no lacing.
This smells like sugar cookie, lightly roasted coffee beans, vanilla cream, toffee, and caramel.
This doesn't really feel much like a dopplebock in color, feel, or taste- but it's still very tasty. The coffee they used seems to meld well with the sort of "golden dopplebock" or whatever the base is- as the caramel, toffee, and cookie malt flavors meld well with the lightly roasted hazelnut-esque coffee flavor.
This is medium bodied, a little bit chewy, with a soft level of carbonation.
This worked pretty well. It doesn't feel anywhere close to a dopplebock, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Initial odor upon opening reminded me of pickles (yikes). Pours out a beautiful translucent gold. Reasonable head that dissipates quickly. Little carbonation visible. Reasonable bite on taste with immediate coffee flavors followed by either a little coffee aftertaste, or a noticeable bitterness of the hops. Not much maltiness coming through. Interesting combination of flavors. I really can't consider this much of a doublebock, and it's not my cup of tea for a beer infused with anything other than beer. But this was a drinkable beer.

Big thanks to 2beerdogs for another interesting and delicious beer
Slightly cloudy light amber color beer with a hefty dollop of white foam that kicks back to a thick cap, leaving spotty lacicles behind.
Hints of lager yeast and light floral hop mingle with absolutely amazingly scented coffee to make a wonderful aroma.
Medium strength taste that is all about the coffee! And what coffee, amazing coffee taste, stunningly good coffee notes. The rest of the beer was designed with enough lightly caramel and grain malt and just enough floral and herbal bitter hop to showcase the deserved star and make a delicious beverage.
Adequately viscous though a bit thin for style, with just the right amount of carb. Perfect finish to showcase the coffee linger.
What a great beer. If you were wondering what if they took one of the finest coffees in the world and made a righteous beer with it, here's the tasty answer. Recommend highly.

Thanks to JLindros for hooking me up with a can.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a lightly hazy very light honey amber hue with a good two finger off white head that fades slowly to leave a big creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of strong coffee, sweeter malts, light crackery malts. Smells like instant coffee though.
T - Taste is similar to the nose. Sweeter malts, light caramel and toffee, strong mineral like note. Lightly chalky. The coffee tastes more like spent grounds, dry, bitter finish.
M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, crisp, alcohol hidden well. Maybe a bit syrupy though.
O - Overall this beer had potential, however, the coffee was rather old and stale tasting and rather sticky.

Canned 9/29/16 although I just picked it up at the store, should have checked.
Pours a nice frothy creamy 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, little lacing, very hazy auburn tan color.
Nose big coffee, fresh roasted coffee grinds, toasted nutty coffee, with caramel sweet malts, toffee, nutty, toasted wheat, a little cracker biscuit.
Taste brings more fresh coffee, freshly roasted coffee grinds that overpower a bit even now can't imagine fresh, earthy nutty coffee, little coffee grinds flavor and tannic acidity, sweet caramel malt, nutty toffee and little creamy toasted wheat, some bitter earthy hops, and weird fruity flavor almost coconut background. Finish is drier more coffee grinds and earthy hops pretty bitter.
Mouth is med bod little sticky, over carbonated.
Overall eh, coffee flavor is too strong for a doppelbock as it's barely there, and coffee was almost like chewing on coffee grinds, didn't seem to be thought out much, but a neat idea.
