Pours a clear copper color with a tight, white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of citrus and pine mostly.

Tastes of the bright hops, orange, and a solid malt base. Hops lead off with notes of grapefruit and pine. Some blood orange adds next along with a a bit of orange peel. Malts add in with caramel sweetness along with some toasted bread. Finishes with some lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium-full with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a nicely done DIPA.

12oz can - today is definitely a DIPA kind of day. Computer bullshit and hot weather, so bring on the hops and booze!

This beer pours a clear, bright medium orange amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and chunky eggshell white head, which leaves some sudsy island group lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, robust citrus peel and flesh notes, a hint of wet stoniness, and some zingy leafy, piney, and gently perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee thing, blood orange, lemon, and red grapefruit citrus rind, and more edgy grassy, floral, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its structurally supportive frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a thin airy creaminess contending with some rising alcohol heat. It finishes off-dry, the malt and citrus running the lingering circus.

Overall, this is a well-made, and tasty big Kahuna IPA, with the complex citrus character making waves aplenty. Easy to drink, in spite of the 16-proof wowee sauce quotient, so much so that I wish I had procured a couple more for the rest of this day.

12oz can, pint glass, canned 5/26/17.

This IPA is deep orange, not red, with a voluminous fluffy head in off-white. Retention is good, bubbles are big.

Lorenzini's nose isn't half as exotic as its name. Orange fruit, sweet citrus.

Strong on the grapefruit, bitter citric hops up front. Sweetish body with suggestions of the blood orange tartness. The finish is slightly sour with high bitterness, like an orange rind.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some light citrus. Taste is of resin, light oranges, a bit of malts, significant bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is decent, but I expect more from this fine brewery.

I haven't has the base, so can't speak to the difference, but the blood orange addition is minimal. Not a complaint, I don't like overly fruity, but a nice drinking dipa

12 FL OZ can
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours amber with burnt orange highlights. It has a slight haze. It is topped with three inches of beige head that leaves some lacing.

The smell is citrus with the focus being on orange pulp. There is also some grapefruit and pine aroma.

The taste is loaded with citrus up front. Then the bitterness kicks in with flavors of grapefruit and pine. The finish has a lingering pine taste.

Medium mouthfeel and highly effervescent.

It is a good example of a west coast IPA. The blood orange doesn't add much in flavor and only mildly in the aroma. Other than the fact that it didn't deliver on the blood orange, I liked it. It has a great bite to it.

Canned on 9/1/16. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a burnt golden with a subtle haze; big fluffy off-white head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and very sticky lacing. The aromas are full of orange. Lots of citrus. The hop aromas blend well with the blood oranges. Malts are there to keep everything balanced. The flavors seem to follow the nose. The blood orange shines without being dominant. The citrus is definitely there. It's slightly sweet, but still has a subtle bitterness to it. Hints of pine and fresh grass in the mix. Solid malt backbone. It finishes juicy with a subtle spiciness. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of full-bodied with fluffy active carbonation. It's crisp, creamy and smooth. Dangerously drinkable.

This is a solid DIPA. It's a nice example of the current "fruit IPA" trend. It doesn't come off as artificial at all. It's refreshing and enjoyable. Well done, I like it.

My local, in-person trader, tone77, has expressed some CANcern about my backlog, especially as it pertains to ones that he has dropped off for The CANQuest (tm). I am doing my best to plow through & get caught up. Disappointingly, there are many without approved pics & my trusty camera has died! Some are just going to have to wait until I CAN procure a replacement.

From the CAN: "Island Brewed"; "Limited Release"; "India Pale Ale brewed with local citrus and blood orange juice"; "20 (deg.) 44' N 156 (deg.) 26' W"; "Island Brewed"; "Crafted with passion from the heart of paradise. We are an innovative and independent brewery. Welcome to the 'ohana."

As a Haole, it is always exciting to see Maui CANs wash up here on the mainland for inclusion in The CANQuest (tm)! I beCAN with a loud Crack! since their lids tend to be a heavier grade than most. A Gussie Busch Glug followed, producing just over a finger of dense, foamy, rocky head with decent retention that left a load of sticky lacing in its wake. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was a CANbination of pine resin, grapefruit & orange, making my hophead mouth begin to water. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste was interesting in that, although Blood Orange was given top billing, the pine resin was the primary flavor. The citrusiness of the blood orange and the grapefruit flavors blended nicely throughout, giving the beer a very pithy quality. Make no mistake, this was quite bitter, but that is why I gravitate to AIPAs & DIPAs in the first place. Finish was dry and bitter with a lingering citrusiness. Mmm.
