Thanks to Dan3279 for yet another hookup.

Poured from a 12 oz. can (Canned 12/06/11) into a pint glass.

A strong pour yields a 1 1/2-finger cream-colored head that quickly recedes to a thick, clumpy dusting and thin foam collar. The body is a perfectly clear golden amber with a good amount of small, randomly appearing carbonation bubbles. Some light lacing can be seen trying to cling to the glass throughout consumption but is incapable of sticking around long.

A fair amount of citrus and pine hops cut through a strong bready malt presence, giving the nose a very balanced aroma. The citrus aromas that are able to poke through offer up notes of tangerines and grapefruit.

Just like the nose, bready malts lay the groundwork for an abundance of citrus flavors. Notes of tangerines and grapefruit are joined by piney and grassy hops flavors. Upon swallowing, the hops flavors peak with more of an emphasis on the grassy hops. These flavors last long after each sip as a slightly bitter aftertaste.

The medium body coats the mouth well without becoming sticky. The carbonation is only slightly fizzy, allowing the drinker to really experience the flavors while maintaining good drinkability. The swallow foams up just a bit but keeps a decent crispness. The bitter aftertaste of the beer does a decent job of drying the mouth, beckoning the drinker to keep reaching for the glass.

I was surprised by the BA score as I see this as a much better beer than the score would represent. A really nice taste that keeps you coming back for more. Good smell, and very consistently brewed. I rate it much higher than the current average.

can poured a golden amber color with a thin white head that left pillows on the surface once settled. aroma has nice hops,(pine, citrus peel, grapefruit, and light tropical) medium malt base, and some sweetness. mouth feel is thin with high carbonation. flavor moves in the bitterness and malted direction. pines, citrus rind, and resins from the hops are well balanced. sweetness is just right and the finish with some lasting bitterness and hop resins. easy to drink and very smooth.

Review from 2/27/11

A: Pours a pale orange to light gold color with frothy off-white head.

S: Strong citrus hops, tart lemon and grapefruit. Faint sweet malts hide way in back. Somewhat bready. Very hop forward.

T: Strong hops. Biting tart citrus. Mostly lemon rind and some grapefruit. Faint bready malt attempts to balance with little success. Finishes pretty bitter from the hops. I prefer a more balanced IPA but this one gives a good showing of citrus hops. A slight astringent aftertaste.

M: Light to medium body with medium carbonation. Lots of hops resins linger for a while. Goes down slick.

D: Good showing of hops but quite unbalanced. But this is a good hoppy IPA.

This beer tasted extra good sitting on the beach in Hawaii.

Pours a golden copper color, with a short-lasting, 1 finger, tightly packed white head, leaving almost no lacing on the glass. Aroma is a piney/resiney smell, with hints of caramel malts and citrus in the background. Taste is very piney, some grassy fruits with caramel/toasted malt flavors. Bitterness is rather subdued for an IPA, but it is noticable. A perfect beer for enjoying on those beautiful Wailea beaches. No wonder they can thir beers - perfect for the beach and no glass bottles to ruin someone's day.

Cloudy orange amber with big tan frothy head with great retention although it ended with clumpy lacing and peaks and valleys. Effervescent sweet citrus and grassy aromas. Nicely balanced yet bold, bright flavor following the nose with the grassy bits being in the end and caramel citrus taste up front. Creamy yet very bubbly mouthfeel.

Something about the aroma in this one is good although not strong or complex it's extremely clear and bright. Citrus flavors are sweet like orange and tangerine with just a splash of grapefruit. There is a nice hop linger but it's not overdone. Really well done simple IPA that is a joy to drink all the way around.

Usually Maui doesn't make its way into PA, so when I saw a fresh, sole can on the shelf, I swooped up it. The only other Maui beer I have had was Coconut Porter. That is one of my favorite porters, so I had high expectations for this.

A: As I crack the can, foam seeps out of the aluminum and down the side of the can. My hands got sticky as I grabbed the wet can and poured into a Great Lakes Brewing Co pint glass. A nice, clear light amber with a two finger sticky white head. While it is clear, it seems a touch hazy, almost as if looking with a film on your eyes. Very nice look.

S: Smell is very nice. Predominantly citrus (mango and orange) with a touch of tart grapefruit. Nice dry scent with loads of fresh fruit bitterness.

T: Surprisingly very good. Nice and sticky mouthfeel, which I like in my IPAs. So much hop resin that yields a blast of orange and grapefruit bitterness. Not the most bitter IPA, but very well integrated with the malt backing.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. A very pleasant IPA that I would buy more of.

On tap in Waikiki. Pours a nice golden color with about a fingers worth of head. Tropical fruit nose, good malty balance and nice tropical hop notes. All in all a really nice IPA that hides the 82 IBU very well.

A: Pours a clear light orange/golden color. A two finger white head forms with excellent retention. Rings of sticky lace cling to the glass.
S: Very herbal, medicinal, and resiny. Lingering grapefruit bitterness and some residual sugars as well.
T: Tons of hops. There is a herbal quality here. Though mostly a grapefruit bitterness lingers on forever. Some grainy, sugary sweetness tries to balance everything out.
M/D: A medium body, but a bit on the thin and week side though. A harsh lingering bitterness makes this hard for me to finish.

I was looking forward to trying this, but a bit of a disappointment for me. To much of a harsh bitter bite with nothing else for balance. Not even any other hop flavors. Not something I am likely to come back to.

12 ounce can that was part of a six pack purchased from Beverages and More for about ten dollars, reviewed from notes taken a few days ago, poured into an old mug

A-Medium orange and copper color, 3/4 inch off white head, decent retention, very nice lacing
S-Pine and citrus hoppiness, caramel, brown sugar, some toasted malt, fresh cut grass later on, and
T-Big pine flavor up front, bitter in the middle with a tiny bit of chewiness, citrus hoppiness causes a somewhat sweet finish that still has a greatdry quality, love the balance in this one, not too malty at any time
M-Dry, bitter, and citrusy mouthfeel, thin to medium body, very crisp and quenching, nice amount of carbonation
D-Very light on the stomach, ABV is not high at all, makes a nice session beer, goes down easy, refreshing

I love IPAs and really enjoyed Coconut Porter, so this had two things going for it before I even cracked it open, blew me away how good it was, I do not say that much about any other India Pale Ales other than the ones I find here in Southern California, will be drinking more of this in the future, especially because it is available here now, ironically drank this and the blonde a few days before going to Maui after I heard the brewpub would be closed for a remodel, definitely recommended and is one of the best beers over in Hawaii from my recent experience
