Somehow haven't seen this Maui offering around despite it having been added in 2009. We've been getting Maui stuff for at least a year at this point in my neck of the woods, so not sure what's up with that but they've been a very solid brewery so I gladly picked up a can of this dry-hopped pale ale when I saw it available at my usual stomping grounds.
Pours a lightly-hazy golden color with a really nicely-formed head of white foam that seems to stick around for quite a while. Even a few minutes after my full pour of the can into a pint glass, the retention on this impresses me with several fingers of rocky, dense surface bubbles. Lace seems kind of wispy and light, but it comes across as somewhat consistent as the beer sips. Surface is moderately covered by foam that limply clings to the sides of the glass. Decent legs. Interesting looking beer with more aspects in its favor than to its detriment, that's for sure.
Nose is a little bready but also heavy on pine and grapefruit in typical "West Coast" form. I get a little aspirin, orange rind and tangerine here as well. Somewhat earthy and oniony. Considering the marketing of this as "dry-hopped," it doesn't feel overly aromatic or hoppy in any meaningful way, but it's not a bad nose at all. A bit grassy and a touch dank but also kind of musty and indistinct in a weird way. Underripe grapefruit and generic citrus win the day here, along with some mild pine and bitter aromatic interplay.
Flavor is an improvement, for sure. Refreshingly crisp and bright with a light, crackery malt note and some nimble, juicy notes of tangerine and grapefruit rind yet again. Some more green onion notes along with a grassy and dank quality, but these actually work decently well with the whole. Better than the sum of its parts in this aspect.
Feel is light enough to be easily drinkable but with a decent amount of heft behind it so that it doesn't feel overly-hopped and unbalanced. Kind of the main difference between a "hoppy pale ale" and a "session IPA," if you will. Carbonation is a little lower than expected and the body is moderately high on the "medium heavy" scale for the style. Good bitter kick in the finish. Can is about 5 weeks old, and it tastes about that fresh. I honestly don't think this would improve much with a fresher can, but I likely won't go out of my way to find out whether or not that assumption holds any water. A solid pale ale with decent drinkability, but nothing mind-blowing. Still, Maui proves to be a brewery focused on making good beer at a decent-enough price point that I'll still give whatever they put out a fair shake. Solid beer.

This is not a pale ale. At 62 IBU and the apparently long cook time for the hops which is giving off some serious alpha acids, this should have been labeled an IPA. Very deceptive. My Pale Ale drinking buddy just let his beer go to waste because he thought he was going to get a legit Pale Ale experience and he just doesn’t do IPA’s.

A: The beer is relatively clear light yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a narrow ring of of white bubbles around the edge and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose - orange seems to stand out in particular.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of citrusy hops with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This pale ale is very sessionable and makes for a good one to knock off poolside.

Another beer from a BeerNV run after coming down the mountain after a ski session. Pours a familiar golden yellow color, slight chill haze, 1/2" white head. The aroma speaks to dry hopping more than most HI beers. Has mostly an orange aroma to it. Citra hops commercial tug job checks out.
The taste also confirms the Simcoe usage, it tends to bring its bitterness in the right amount, seems like around 60ibu here in this mouth feel. The orange gets weighed down with a bit of woody caramel in the mouth feel/taste departments. Maltier than its appearance I guess. Carbonation could have been a tick higher for better satisfaction.
Its one of the better beers I've had from the islands. Granted the bar is low, but you probably aren't there for the beer scene anyways. Haven't seen cans of this, I don't think Maui distributes out here anymore beyond kegs. Just haven't seen them in awhile.

Pours clear, gold in color with one half inch head. Taste is lychee and pale malt, twinge of pineapple. Light bodied, slightly bitter, with moderate carbonation. Nice and clean pale ale. Nice beach beer.

Not bad, but for a pale ale I find this one a bit too hoppy. I also think it could be a bit darker in color, with longer lasting head. Fun to try once.
