A - Pours a clear golden-orange color with a thin finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down fairly quickly leaving behind only a bit of lace.

S - Aroma is full of sweet pineapple juice. There is also some grain and wheat, as well as a bit of citrus and yeast.

T - Starts off with the sweet pineapple flavors with just a touch of wheat in the background. Through the middle, the grains come through a bit more with some other citrus flavors. The finish is full of sweet pineapple juice with some wheat, grain, and yeast.

M - Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a bit of a watery and thin mouthfeel.

D - Very drinkable. A bit too much fruit juice without enough of wheat beer. It is also a bit too thin and watery.

12oz can, canned on 6/29/11
DFH signature glass

A: Pours a light hazy yellow orange color. Three fingers of big bubbled bright white head. Tons of carbonation streaming off the bottom of the glass.

S: It's an older beer, too old to be being sold but it still smells pretty clean and good. It smells of sweet pineapple fruit. Sweet wheat malt too.

T: It's very carbonated. Almost overly. I really can't complain about about this one, it's old yes but the flavors are still there. It's a solid wheat minus the Belgian yeast strains. You still get some of that pineapple flavor which is really pleasant. Dry close.

M: Medium bodied.

Surprisingly better than the reviews. I'm enjoying this and I Dont particularly like fruit beers or Fruit-Wheat.

Appearance: Pours a hazed honey color with a small head for wheat beer; leaves ample lacing.

Smell: Wheat bread toast with pineapple marmalade

Taste: Toasted wheat bread with a jammy pineapple spread; not as sweet or tropical as I feared. I like it more as it goes.

Mouthfeel: Light body with mid carbonation.

Excellent. (Hate to ship x ocean tho)

I really like Maui Gold Pineapples. Every time I visit Hawai'i or California, I bring back around 4 of them. Anybody that's had them before, you know why. When I found out that MBC made a wheat ale with Maui Gold, I had to jump on it! I thought this one had a great balance between the Maui Gold and the wheat. Maui Gold is very sweet and has very low acidity to it, so I figured it would be a bit over powering, but they did a good job, not letting that happen. It's a great beer for the hot weather down here, I just wish I didn't have to bring it from Cali or Hawai'i, when I visit.

A- Bright golden color with a little white lacing and almost no head retention.

S- sweet malts, pineapple, yeast, basically no hop aromoa...shocker ;)

T -sweet, dry, fruity/pineapple. the pineapple blends nicely with the fruity esters given from the yeast. Sweet malts underline the entire beer giving it a solid sweetness that isnt overbarring.

M- nice and light on the palate. nothing crazy here, decent carb, minor residual sugars, nice clean finish.

Great beer for a hot summer day out on the BBQ

Pours a light golden colour with nice frothy head that sinks slowly. White thick curtain of lace. Mild haze. Looks like a decent wheat.

Smells fruity. Distinct pineapple note with a slight glacé edge. Touch of cinnamon-laced pastry and strudel on the malt, very mild sweet spice. Bit desserty and could use more edge. Pleasant, though.

Taste is a bit tart and noticeably oxidised. Some caramel malt notes but quickly turns damp, raisiny but gets some lightness from pineapple late-mid. Finishes short but some nice light spice notes on the back. Would be interesting as a hefe with stronger wheat notes. Feel the pineapple dominates esp round the mid and some more yeasty spice or fruit esters might provide some interesting contrast.

A little thin, bit of pleasant tingly carbonation midway. Feels fine.

Some more beery edge underlying could really make this pop. Pleasant summery Mauiesque drop, but feel it could really be an intriguing beer if consumed fresh, as it's well crafted.

A: Cloudy pale yellow in color. Forms a fluffy white head. Decent retention. Minimal lacing.

S: Aroma is a bit funky...like fermented pineapple juice. Not necessarily bad, just, well...fermented pineapple juice.

T: Taste starts off with a slightly tart sweetness. Wheat. and pineapple. A slight earthy quality on the back end.

M: On the lighter side of medium. Slight acidic tartness, presumably from the pineapple juice. Low bitterness.

O: A refreshing summer beer. Nothing too serious - a fun beer. I like the pineapple here.

Tasting notes: Unique. Rich smoky unripe pineapple with a touch of sour (yet subtle and well-integrated), a dry wheat spice (with the barest echo of cinnamon), lemony candy-like nose, fairly thick body for the style. Semi-dry finish. Fizzy. Pineapple is subtle and the wheat flavor comes through. Pleasantly tangy and refreshing. Slightly grainy. Hints of popcorn, chewed gum, and grass. Less juicy than expected.

Clouded orange golden body with a nice large bubbled white head, fine lacing spread across the glass. Aroma has a nice citrus flow to it with hints of tart pineapple around the edges. This is a pretty cool concept nice base wheat beer with Maui Gold pineapples. Flavors bring a nice fruity roll between tropical fruit/citrus blend with wheat beer base coming through. Phenolic mildly spiced character works well together. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied even soft carbonation nothing off here. Drinkability overall it's nice to have some pineapple burps rather than the typical hop burp, nice experience works well.

a: cloudy orange, leaning towards a light, bright amber color.. fluffy 2 finger head.. settles quickly..

s: yeast esters upfront..banana & clove.. slight graininess.. pineapple is slightly present..

t: again the yeast characters are upfront..fruity esters with a slight phenolic taste on tongue.. then you get the bit of banana & clove.. finish is slightly dry with a lingering clove bitterness.. pineapple isnt as present as i thought.. its there alright, just somewhat subtle.. tasty nonetheless.

mf: light-medium bodied with spot on carbonation..

o: a decent brew, especially for summer.. went down too easy!

A- Can pours into a tulip with a very slightly hazy pale golden body. A head rises quickly to about two fingers high with good retention and a thick creamy consistency. A mix of spots and sheets of lace in moderate amounts.

S- Pineapple juice by far the dominant force in the aroma with hints of pale fruits, bread and a touch of cracked grain beyond that. Mostly just that pineapple juice though.

T- Pineapple flavor runs the show but it feels rather authentic and fresh. It reminds me of candy but a really good candy without much sweetness and a burst of tropical pineapple flavor. Slight raw wheat, bread and hints of pale malts support the fruit.

MF- Light end body but the wheat adds a touch of silkiness and slight frothy texture. Carbonation is at a moderate level.

Captures a fresh pineapple flavor without making the common mistake of piling on any added sweetness or creating a beer that is more like soda. Drinks easy as the fresh pineapple taste carries the experience. Perhaps a bit one note but nothing off about it.

Golden, hazy wheat look. Decent 1+ finger head with minimal lacing and retention. Smell is that of most wheats with a bit more fruit on this one. Taste follows the nose with a very fruity taste and this I attribute to the strong pineapple forward character. Nothing complex, but fairly refreshing. Mouthfeel is more like a juice than a beer. I feel that they went a little overboard on the fruit character, but I wouldn't turn one down. A simple wheat that is a bit of a one trick pony. Not sure I could drink more than one or two of these. A unique twist on a style that was a bit too fruity-

Mana Whaet pours a hazy lucent gold tinged peach color with a big foamy head that falls quickly leaving just a little oily lacing.

The light aroma has a nice wheat malt scent with a pineapple-banana-citrus background.

The flavor has a nice swetish banana-pineapple taste backed by a a nicely bitter clean wheat malt background. Somewhat spicey-peppery as well with little in the way of a hop profile which is appropriate. Finish is nicely balanced.

Mouthfeel is light without being watery, overall smooth but with just a little roughness from carbonation.

Light, refreshing and easy drinking. No overwheliming flavors. A nice wheat ale from the isles. I wish I were there drinking this!

Poured from a can into a standard pint glass.

Pours a cloudy orangish amber with a small layer of off white head that fades to a ring around the glass.

Smell: A mild sweetness from the malt with a hint of tropical fruit.

Taste: Light and crisp, pretty refreshing. Some pineapple, but not way too much. Not much sweetness to speak of.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with tingly carbonation and a very dry finish.

Overall: Nice and refreshing, I enjoyed the use of pineapple. I wouldn't call it great, but I would have another.

Poured from a 12oz can into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy straw color (although more clear than most wheats), with a large foamy white head. The smell is sweet, pineapple, tropical fruit. Feel is light with moderate carbonation. The taste is good enough, very light, there is some hop bitterness at the end, the pineapple taste and a little sweet malts, overall a pretty light beer.

Not a real complex beer but rather a summer patio quencher that makes good use of the wheat notes and the added pineapple flavour . Not too sweet and quite nice on the finish this is easy drinking and decent for the style. Compares with Kona's wheat beer though they use passionfruit as an addition. Tastes better on a Maui beach.

Poured from can to a NBB globe. No date on the can.

A - The beer pours an amber brown color with a nice 2 finger white/tan head with good retention and nice lacing.

S - An interesting aroma of the hefeweizen yeast along with a fruity pineapple, banana, citrus character. Not what I'd expect from a hefeweizen but that's ok.

T - The beer starts with a light crisp wheat malt flavor. The yeast comes into play and provides the hefeweizen flavors with a stronger banana than found in the nose, a bit of clove. The fruit really comes through with pineapple, banana, apple tones. A mild bitterness throughout. Finishes crisp.

M - Light bodied and well carbonated. A little dry.

O - An interesting take on the style. I remember when we were in Maui last year my wife picked up a sixer of this and she really enjoyed it. I found myself enjoying this time around, too. Certainly a beer we'd buy again.

Poured from a 12oz can into my Ayinger weissbier glass.

Pale gold, not quite clear liquid topped briefly by a half finger of ivory which rapidly fizzes away to nothing. No real lacing to speak of either...

Strong banana aroma, light orange (creamsicle?), and faint wheat in the nose.

Bananas come forward once again on the palate, along with very low level pineapple juice notes, though these are easy to mistake for light fruit esters. Low bitterness, as the hops seem rather restrained. Slighly odd finish which is sweet/tart and somewhat grainy. No off notes though.

Light bodied, with what appears to be decent carbonation, though head formation/retention is incredibly poor.

An approachable summer beer - good for a picnic or pool party - but not too impressive on its own.

Cloudy straw color, aroma of a sweet beer and pineapple juice,
Light beer with pineapple flavor. But not artificial, tastes like actual pineapples.

Not my thing but not bad. There’s a time and a place for a beer like this. I’d have another while grilling out or toobing down the river.

Poured into 9oz pilsener glass. Poured a fairly typical semi-cloudy gold color with over 1/2 inch of white head that had OK retention and light lacing.

The aroma was good, a very nice blend of wheat and malt, with just a hint of yeast. The flavors started out the same, then developed a bit more complexity at the back. The beer was a bit tart, had a crisp finish and just a little bit of pineapple came in at very end.

The body was nice, crisp, smooth and dry. Drinkability was very good, knocking off a sixer while enjoying the nice summer weather would be too easy. Overall, a very nice take on the style. A very enjoyable beer that's worth your time if you see it.

Where IS my ukelele? I would feel a bit more comfortable playing a stringed instrument with one of these in my hand. It is a wheat ale, and it is a solid wheat ale - make no mistake! I had to search hard for the promised pineapple, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of this beer. If you want an thirst quenching but substantial beer to enjoy in Hawaii, give this a try!

Stopped by at one of my favorite beer stores and discovered they had the new mana wheat in by Maui brewing! Picked up a sixer and went to a friends house to share it with her. It pours a really golden color mixed with a little orange in it. The beer is hazy, but not to dense. The smell was what you would expect from a wheat beer with the little exception of pineapples, yep, pineapples. The taste was yeasty, but the acidity of the pineapples really balanced out the flavor quite well. It was going down nice and smooth on a hot Hawaiian day!!!

On tap at Flatbread Company in Paia, Maui, Hawaii.

Pours a hazy light yellow orange with a 1 inch foamy white head that settles to a film on the top of the beer. No lacing on this one. Smell is of wheat, spices, yeast, and some pineapple notes. Taste is of wheat, spices, and a pretty good pineapple flavor. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and clean mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good wheat beer but the pineapple comes across better in the flavor over the smell.
