I used to think that all Mellow Mushroom locations were created equal, until I entered this one. Real estate must be expensive on the Auburn University campus because this place is cramped.

Negatives about space aside, the beer selection is definitely one of the better ones in the state of Alabama. Terrapin and Sweetwater were on tap along with many others, and too bad there were no AL micros, but at least GA had a presence. The food is as expected and the staff seem like they have had a few mushrooms recently.

Lots of good beer, probably third best in Auburn behind Finks and The Hound. Prices are high on food though. Beer prices are reasonable. The downtown location is really nice, but they can get very crowded.

An interesting chain located in Auburn. Mostly a pizza joint. Has a reputation as a decent beer bar, similar to Old Chicago's in the Midwest. However, there selection was not good. Most of their local or regional selections were out. Asked for an IPA once and they brought a kolsch. Not on purpose, they just did not know what was on that keg line apparently. Food was average. Nothing local, organic or sustainable, but it is a chain.
Not a bad place to visit, but there are a few other places in Auburn that are better for both local craft beer and local foods.

Small cramped space, but they used it well. Cramped seating for a big party at the only table big enough for a party of ten. Busy, but not a long wait for such a big party. Decor and atmosphere was nice. Lots of college kids. The food was excellent and on par with other Mellow Mushroom quality. Judging the beer selection with a grain of salt that we are in Alabama, it was great. Lots of variety of Terrapin, and I loved seeing several selections of Alabama breweries like Straight to Ale, and Back Forty. The prices were reasonable for the quality and the service was pretty good for how busy things were. Very nice waitress and an overall good atmosphere.

I was here on business and, knowing Alabama to be a beer wasteland, was happy to find the mushroom. This was my first visit to one of these. It was all that I expected and wanted. Good beer and good college town food. The vibe is pizza-joint all the way. The service was friendly and efficient. The college kids who work here seem to care about you which is nice. Good beers on tap and pretty damn good pizza for a cheap price. We had a Hawaiian and a caprese salad. The portions were huge. I will certainly be back if I am in town again. If they were near my house, I would go there all of the time.

Visited the Mellow Mushroom in Auburn before the Ball State game. The atmosphere is what you would expect in a college town and I love it. Had to wait a few minutes before being seated but that is to be expected on gameday. I had a steak and cheese pizza and a pitcher of Titan IPA. (My buddy was driving so what the hey). Service was pretty quick. My beer was served cold and my pizza was hot. My Titan IPA was $18 for the pitcher and was the most interesting selection on the menu. There was some bonus "eye candy" around also. I was a happy camper.

this is the one of the great attractions to down town Auburn. it's also one of the most crowded! but that's okay for a college town, it's what you would expect. the calzones are the some of the best and you just can't beat chasing all that cheese and sauce down with a pitcher of something cold from the tap. this is the home of fond memories and many cold beers. this is where i found my love for the darker side of brew, albeit newcastle. hey, it was college, i was experimenting... it's a start. it did open my tastes for something more than "lite" beers. and for that i will always be grateful.

It seems unbelievable to me that I am the first to do a review. I guess that what Todd told me at the outset of Woody Him Forward is true - my wandering presence will garner reviews of places that may have otherwise gone overlooked.

The entry was on a major thoroughfare through town. Entering, the long, snaking, tiled bar was to the immediate left. Along the right wall were a series of high-backed booths. Running along the wall above the booths, headed all of the way aft, was a mural referencing beer, Alice in Wonderland, beer, Dr. Seuss, beer, Auburn University, and more beer. The lavatories were all of the way aft, along with a well-stocked aquarium.

Behind the bar, they featured twenty-five (25) taps, and two coolers filled with beer. Further aft was a Coke cooler that was also filled with beer, followed by the kitchen. I had a couple of draft beers and a slice of pizza while I was there. It was all pretty mellow, if you ask me. Keep on 'shroomin'.
