Had this one on tap at the Hawthorne Hophouse on 9/1/11

Appearance: Pours a fairly clear and dull orange. Crown is 1 finger, white, and shows moderate retention/lace.

Smell: Touch of diacetyl butterness....almost lager like.

Taste: Diacetyl with a note of earth.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation and thick side of thin bodied.

Drinkability: Easy to drink but bleh flavor and smell wise.

Pours a nice frothy looking half finger head. The head is completely white and the body is a nice orange color. It looks like a hefeweizen really, that’s how cloudy it is. It looks pretty damn nice though all around. Very faint hoppyness on the smell, very clean smell all around though. I want more aroma however. I might detect faint hints of fruit, but like I said, that smell is very small. Very interesting on the taste, it’s very bitter up front, but not a crisp hop bitter, a very boring bitter quite frankly. Small maltyness to it as well. Not much else to speak of, a little watery actually. Kinda disappointing on the flavor. Mouthfeel is decent, not too big, not too small. Drinkability isn’t bad either, but that’s because it’s pretty light considering it’s a pale ale. Not much else to talk about here, kinda a boring ale, a little disappointing.

To my understanding, this beer originally started as an exclusive brew for the local restaurant chain, Cornucopia. It is a solid pale ale all the way round and is a good beer for introducing people to microbrew: it has a pleasant yet not overpowering nose, good taste, and easy finish.
