Draft at the Platypus in Bend, Fort George demonstration night (5/14). Decent double, nothing remarkable, but everything done right. Extremely drinkable.

Served On-Tap
A — Pours a murky and cloudy orangey color into the glass. There is a minimalist creamy beige colored head on-top that leaves behind some minimal oily spots of lace.
S — Strongly assertive notes of chewy piney hops, and pungent oaky Bourbon. Little bit of a caramel malt sweetness as well. Dominated by astringent bourbon and alcohol heat on top of some piney and bitter hops.
T — Hoppy, bitter, chewy. Notes of Bourbon and dry white oak intermingle with excessively bitter and piney hop notes. An odd array of flavors, lacking balance between the two worlds of Bourbon and hops.
M — Errs on the heavy side of the spectrum, syrupy almost, with little balancing carbonation.
O — An interesting enough concept here, it just severely lacks balance and composure.

Oak makes the hops quite (too?) mellow.

I got none of the "Belgian" part of the beer. Solid IPA came through, as did the notes of vanilla, oak, honey and bourbon from the barrels, but for my taste the combination doesn't come together.

Definitely has that fort george ipa character to it. smells and tastes like other ipa's from them, only with some oak and light bourbon flavor. barrel aging lessens the bitterness but allows nice hops to show through. good beer, i feel like its underrated.

On tap at the recent de Garde release event.
I'm generally not a big fan of barrel aged IPA's, but this wasn't too bad. The barrel aging muted the bitterness, but there was still plenty of tropical fruit, spice and bourbon. Overall, a pretty tasty beer that was fun to try at the release event.
