T: Tasted good. Roasted malt, hints of espresso but mainly cocoa

M: Nice feel but sordove thin I thought

D: Tasty and easy to drink but ranked against others on the ol drinkability scale I would probably choose something a little heartier on the mouthfeel

on-tap at the Brewer /Public House in Astoria, served in a mason jar.
from notes.

Deep brown, near black with a foamy, light brown head.

Very pleasant roasty coffee and cocoa profile predominately, with just a bit of hop spice backing.

Medium body, foamy carbonation.

A well done and extremely easy drinking porter. I usually think of a porter as a cool-weather beer, but I had this on an 80 degree day and enjoyed every sip of it.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding this beer. Originally brewed as Panamax porter the listed ABV is 4.60. The growler fill that I got today was called "Fort George coffee porter" with 7.70 as the ABV on the chalkboard. I called the brewery and they said the ABV was 5.something.(I think he said 5.50)

Growler fill from a 1/2 keg.

Pours a solid black body with a tan head. Some retention & lacing

Smell is mostly coffee with a little chocolate.A little discernible hops too.

Wow, a whole lot of coffee taste going on here. The finish has a nice little hop bite that (after all the coffee taste) comes across as an espresso type bitterness. Nice !

Feel was somewhat creamy but a little watery. The carbonation seemed low and lacking. Perhaps it's because this was near the end of the keg (which it was) In the interest of fairness I'm giving the feel a3.25( but I almost gave it a 3 or 2.75.)

Overall; This beer has a lot going for it. Coffee beans added to the brewing process right ? I would call it a coffee porter. I would have this again...

On tap @ the Fort George Brewery + Public House (Astoria, OR) on 8/31/11. Served in a mason jar.

Pours black, with a thin, yet still rich looking layer of mocha colored head. This retains with some creamy bunching that leaves back a good bit of spotty lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells like a freshly brewed pot of coffee, with an acrid roastiness that fills out the sides of the nose. Green citric hops and sweet notes of cocoa and caramel blend in to give this a green tanginess that nicely compliments the coffee. Just a touch of floral activity hangs on the edges.

Roast and citrus spreads a bright (and borderline refreshing) feeling coffee character out into the mouth, leaving back a burnt and dry feel that lingers with some crisp hops in the finish. Like the nose, some sweet chocolate and caramel character helps even out the rougher edges of the bitterness, as the coffee and hop flavors really drive this home. The mouthfeel is medium bodied overall and feels a bit thin up front, but then does work itself into more of an assertive creaminess as this spreads out. No alcohol is detected but this does seem like it could use a bit more body.

This has got to be of the more drinkable Porters that I’ve had in a while, with that combo of hops and then citric character from the coffee (with the roasted character being delicious as well) really giving this a refreshing presence on the palate. The thinner body does distract a bit but it does also add to the quaffable nature of this. This was well done.

Had this on-tap at the brewery in a mason jar.

Appearance: nearly black body with a finger of creamy tan foam. Despite its darkness I can see a strong effervescence. Nice!

Smell: lightly sweet, balanced roasty aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate. Quite satisfying.

Taste: rich coffee flavor right off the bat, but it is balanced rather than overpowering. Bitterness is smooth and welcome. A well-crafted porter.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a well-integrated carbonation and a surprising and satisfying creamy smoothness. Fort George does it again!

Overall: this beer just rubs me the right way. I could drink tons of it.
