BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Fort George Brewery + Public House
Oregon, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
"Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

Pint can into shaker pint glass.

A: gentep pour nets a 2finger fluffy soft off white head that slowly receded into a finger width concave cap of foam. Great lacing. Almost amber colored, almost not pale anymore.

S: big hop aroma. Citrusy and grassy like pretty much every other ipa brewed in Oregon. Don't get me wrong I love my home state but the obsession with overbesring IPAs is a little tired. Not much else going on in this aroma wise.

T: not as agressive as I expected. Opens floral and a bit herby followed by the grassy notes. Gets a little bitter but not extreme like some. Willing to bet it is a reasonable boil time with huge hop addition.

M: medium bodied. Nothing special but not wrong. Just is. Smooth enough to drink but not outstanding.

O: not a bad ipa but not my favorite.

16oz glass at Eichhardt's in downtown Sandpoint. Not what I came for, but it's what I'm leaving with - I can't complain about that!

This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber hue, with one finger of puffy, creamy, and mildly chunky eggshell white head, which leaves a decent broken wall of sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily falls away.

It smells of grainy, semi-sweet caramel malt, leafy pine resin, muddled tropical fruit, a bit of hard water chalkiness, more pedestrian, some still zingy citrus pith astringency, and a twinge of floral, somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is rather hot-seeming bready caramel malt, equally alcohol-tinged orange and red grapefruit, earthy pine forest floor droppings, a steady white chalk pithiness, and more leafy, weedy, and musty floral hops.

The bubbles are pretty understated in their fussy at time frothiness, the body a sticky middleweight, and mostly smooth, both the alcohol and wayward hops interfering at times. It finishes off-dry, both the complex new and old world hop characters parrying the lingering maltiness well.

A more or less approachable and eventually drinkable big IPA, one apparently not quite ready for the big DIPA time. Enjoyable and worth seeking out, even, as just noted, it takes a little while to grow on you.

There just aren't the words...this is just a fantastic IPA. Really has it all and such a good price for a pint. It's up there as an all time fav.

A: Poured a beautiful orangish color with great carbobation leaving a nice white cap, lots of lacing thyat stuck around start to finish. Sexy beer.

S: Orange peel mainly with some grains and other light citrsu notes, perhaps a whiff of pine needles

T: Big and bitter upfront with orange peel, light grapefruit and a light pine resin. Delicous taste. The SImcoe really sets beer apart from the rest.

M: Lots of taste, some good bite, medium bodied, clean finish

O: While I had this draft at the brewery I foound it to be strikingly good and better this time even in the can. Amazing IPA!

Possibly the best beer I've ever tasted. Great from the Can but "top shelf" from the Tap!

Good mild orange pour, average head to it. Complex hop aroma, simcoe, pineapple, lemon and other citrus.

Big dose of bitter, but does come with more flavor to it than just that. Good at hiding alcohol, went well on a hot day of disc golf. Did come of more like an imperial ipa. More and more orange flavor. Slightest fractional toasting of the malt content which is not balanced in a good way, flavor leans hop heavy as it should. Sweetness is balanced, although I would be hesitant to describe this as having any caramel flavor, seemed like toffee grass was more in order to describe it.

Recommended. Highly. $3 a can is a good deal.

Poured from draft. Dark orange and slightly cloudy. Decent white head with good legs. Aroma was very faint, but had citrus notes. Taste was excellent. A lot of pine and citrus with the right amount of bitterness. A faint malt taste that blends very well. Decent mouthfeel, smooth finish. Good beer

into a nonic pint

Pours a cloudy burnt orange with a thick sticky white head that fades to a thin layer on top.

Smells like pine, grassy hops, and lemon citrus.

Taste follows the aroma. A lot of pine, grapefruit, and lemon. Sticky hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium with light carbonation.

Overall is really good and one of my favorite Oregon IPA's

Can shared by Joe – much obliged!

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a cream-colored head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of grainy pale malts with good amounts of pine and slight citrus hops. Also present are slight amounts of softer floral hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Slightly dry pale and light caramel malts up front are joined quickly by hint of bready flavors. Joining in shortly thereafter are solid amounts of citrus and lightly herbal hops that carry through to a moderately bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall this was a solid and easy-drinking beer for the style. Worth a shot.
