Vortex IPAVortex IPA
Notes: "Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

Pint can dated 08/30/2021 "twisted sista" and served in a bulb glass. Pale golden and lightly hazed on account of being an unfiltered IPA. Nice oldschool floral hop aroma. Flavor has alpha presence on the palate and, in a supporting role only, tropical juicy fruit. Pineapple and guava. Considering the ABV is venturing into DIPA territory this is extremely drinkable and flavorful. There's enough residual sugar, but no detectable sweetness. Fine carbonation. Fort George really are masters and this is an excellent execution of a strong American IPA.

There just aren't the words...this is just a fantastic IPA. Really has it all and such a good price for a pint. It's up there as an all time fav.

Vortex is a bright golden beer. It's beautiful despite a few floaties. A big and rocky foam rests above like one giant white cloud, and as each sip is taken, layer upon layer of lacing is left behind.

Pine sap and lime dominate the aroma. A touch of melon, some citrus zest, and a pinch of weed complete the picture.

The flavor follows with pine seeming to be engrained from beginning to end. The fruits come in at the middle and that kick of weed packs a bigger punch than expected on the end, but only for a brief moment.

This is how I like my IPAs. Clean and crisp with a light to medium body with a huge wallop of piney bitterness shoved down your throat. It's sappy and sticky between sips and glues the lips together.

A great IPA from Fort George, and one of my regulars. Actually was surprised to see I hadn't reviewed this before. A Northwest staple as far as I'm concerned. Cheers.

16oz glass at Eichhardt's in downtown Sandpoint. Not what I came for, but it's what I'm leaving with - I can't complain about that!

This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber hue, with one finger of puffy, creamy, and mildly chunky eggshell white head, which leaves a decent broken wall of sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily falls away.

It smells of grainy, semi-sweet caramel malt, leafy pine resin, muddled tropical fruit, a bit of hard water chalkiness, more pedestrian, some still zingy citrus pith astringency, and a twinge of floral, somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is rather hot-seeming bready caramel malt, equally alcohol-tinged orange and red grapefruit, earthy pine forest floor droppings, a steady white chalk pithiness, and more leafy, weedy, and musty floral hops.

The bubbles are pretty understated in their fussy at time frothiness, the body a sticky middleweight, and mostly smooth, both the alcohol and wayward hops interfering at times. It finishes off-dry, both the complex new and old world hop characters parrying the lingering maltiness well.

A more or less approachable and eventually drinkable big IPA, one apparently not quite ready for the big DIPA time. Enjoyable and worth seeking out, even, as just noted, it takes a little while to grow on you.

A: Poured a beautiful orangish color with great carbobation leaving a nice white cap, lots of lacing thyat stuck around start to finish. Sexy beer.

S: Orange peel mainly with some grains and other light citrsu notes, perhaps a whiff of pine needles

T: Big and bitter upfront with orange peel, light grapefruit and a light pine resin. Delicous taste. The SImcoe really sets beer apart from the rest.

M: Lots of taste, some good bite, medium bodied, clean finish

O: While I had this draft at the brewery I foound it to be strikingly good and better this time even in the can. Amazing IPA!

Possibly the best beer I've ever tasted. Great from the Can but "top shelf" from the Tap!

At brewery:
Orange-tinged amber, great head/lacing; candied orange malt with a pithy back in nose+taste which adds a little pine and hint of lemon rind. Medium feel, fairly dry. Not an overpowering NW IPA each sip, but bitterness builds.
