Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
"Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange color. A fair amount of floaties roamed about with a thin sixteenth finger’s worth of white semi-foamy head that dissipated within a decent twenty seconds. Light spider web to off sort of all over lacing speckled the glass all around. The smell had a fairly decent malted grapefruit-esque to slight piney to floral part coming about. The taste was fairly bittersweet with a fairly leading grapefruity to piney edge and leading to a smoothed out sort of decent citrus aftertaste. A fairly nice palatable semi-dry finish accompanies the aftertaste. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent carbonation to it. Overall, pretty nice AIPA that I could bang again if I got the chance.

Pint-sized can:

Pours slightly hazed orange-amber. A lasting white head leaves trailing lace.

The smell is of citric and tropical fruit - orange/lemon, apricot, grapefruit with pine, herbal, peppery spicing. Fresh bread/dough comes through in the back.

The taste is a burst of hop goodness - citrus, pine, lemongrass - with a touch of black peppery spicing. Bitterness balanceds by pale, bready, grainy malt and a touch of caramel. Bitterness is pleasant in the dry, refreshing, long finish.

It has a smooth, chewy, juicy body.

A wonderful IPA that shows classic Pacific Northwest characteristics. Hop presence shines without being too harsh or bitter. A must try for IPA lovers!

Appearance - Pours clear and bright orange copper with an off-white, finger width head. Sub-par retention, retreating quickly to reveal a mostly barren surface with a razor thin ring around the edge. Not much for lacing outside a spot or two.

Smell - Hops are certainly predominant, with orange and grapefruit notes off-set by some light pineapple, pine and mango. Malts are distant, but exhibit a touch of caramel and breadiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. A citrus combo of orange sweetness and grapefruit bitterness can be found throughout, with lesser notes of pineapple zing and a hint of mango making brief appearances. Malts sit beneath, but feature a touch of caramel sweetness and some toasty character. Nutty, dry stone pit character hits mid-taste and strengthens. The finish is a solid blend of the malts and hops; the aforementioned flavors coming to a head and resolving itself as it dies to a fantastic mix of bittersweet wonderment. The aftertaste lingers with pith and a touch of hop spice.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with moderate, slightly bitey carbonation. Smooth texture turns crisp and mostly dry in the finish, begging for another sip.

Overall - A very tasty IPA, and my first review for a Fort George beer. This won't wow you with originality, but the execution is damn near flawless. Your tastebuds will beg for another sip. Kinda pricey for a 4-pack, but well worth the price for an occasional admission.

Had many of these as a "go to". Damn it's good. At 7.7 it's pretty much a DIPA, but it drinks smooth with a measure of hop / malt balance. Love the Simcoe hop contribution. The can tells me it won't rip the taste buds off my tongue (despite its hoppiness)...and that's true. If ever a 7.7 abv / 97 IBU beer could be 'restrained', this is it. So drinkable it's laughable. Keep it up Ft. George!

This is a solid IPA that leans strongly to the bitter vs citrus side. I generally prefer a more citrusy IPA , but I enjoyed this nonetheless. It is not, IMO, in the same league as Fort George's 3 Way IPA however.

The smell for me is mostly resin, with a little grapefruit. It has a pleasant hazy, light amber color. Mouth feel is pretty typical IPA. No big, frothy head, but nicely carbonated.

As noted, it is not my preferred style of IPA, being more bitter than I prefer. The hops would overwhelm if not for the solid malt backbone. The can describes it as a Northwest-style IPA and I would agree. It's a big, hoppy IPA that is well suited to a rainy day at the coast (Astoria).

Drank from a 16oz can...

Every bit of 97 IBU!!! Very hoppy, but didn't really get much of a citrus/tropical
hop presence like other reviews.
