Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
"Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt orange to brown color with floaties bouncing around some carbonation trying to surface to hit a one finger white foamy head. Lacing strung itself around the glass after the head dissipated within about a minute.
The smell had a sharp bitter citrus rind, light grapefruit, and pine gliding over a light caramel malt base.
The taste was a muddled sweet to bitter piney hops to grapefruit-esque sweet malts. Semi-sweet citrus aftertaste. Wet citrus/piney finish.
The mouthfeel was about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation could be felt appropriately for the style.
Overall, not exactly sure why I saw floaties, as the smell, taste and mouthfeel seem fine - so that doesn't tell me its old...I'm guessing that's just what this beer is supposed to be.

Poured from can canned a month ago. A good ipa very well balanced almost in the double category. Pine and stonefruits mixed with citrus bitterness. A tongue coating hoppiness that numbs you as you sip and an aroma that invites every sip.

16oz glass at Eichhardt's in downtown Sandpoint. Not what I came for, but it's what I'm leaving with - I can't complain about that!

This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber hue, with one finger of puffy, creamy, and mildly chunky eggshell white head, which leaves a decent broken wall of sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily falls away.

It smells of grainy, semi-sweet caramel malt, leafy pine resin, muddled tropical fruit, a bit of hard water chalkiness, more pedestrian, some still zingy citrus pith astringency, and a twinge of floral, somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is rather hot-seeming bready caramel malt, equally alcohol-tinged orange and red grapefruit, earthy pine forest floor droppings, a steady white chalk pithiness, and more leafy, weedy, and musty floral hops.

The bubbles are pretty understated in their fussy at time frothiness, the body a sticky middleweight, and mostly smooth, both the alcohol and wayward hops interfering at times. It finishes off-dry, both the complex new and old world hop characters parrying the lingering maltiness well.

A more or less approachable and eventually drinkable big IPA, one apparently not quite ready for the big DIPA time. Enjoyable and worth seeking out, even, as just noted, it takes a little while to grow on you.

From a tallboy, canned on 5/20/15, into an imperial pint

a: cloudy orange-copper, with a nice creamy 1 finger off-white head that subsides after a minute leaving fairly good lacing
s: a little faint considering that it is a big ipa, nonetheless, some bright juicy citrus, some bready caramel, and a touch of dank leafy earthiness.
t & m: here we go, this is good! nice smooth entrance with bready malts and a touch of sweet caramel and honey, then we've got a nectar juice bomb -- waves of peach, orange, and mango -- and again, a hint of dank weedy earthy grassy contrast that works really well. I don't really get much pine or resin that other reviewers note...idk. Anyway, kind of gently builds in bitterness over the course of the mouthful, to the point of being fairly substantial but still very pleasant. Fairly substantial body and middling on carbonation but not heavy. Thick and creamy, and a very pleasant lingering mouthful.

Very good...I'd drink this often if I had access to it.
