Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
"Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

Enjoyed the beer well enough. A fellow drinker brought into the bar was at last night and shared with everyone.

The color was nice, nose was great. Flavor was pretty mild though. I did enjoy the fruitiness that came through, but wasnt all that hoppy.

First had poured from pint can (gift from new Portlandia resident), into tumbler. According to the brewery, lots of grain and lots of hops, but the former outweighs the latter, to my observation.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt orange to brown color with floaties bouncing around some carbonation trying to surface to hit a one finger white foamy head. Lacing strung itself around the glass after the head dissipated within about a minute.
The smell had a sharp bitter citrus rind, light grapefruit, and pine gliding over a light caramel malt base.
The taste was a muddled sweet to bitter piney hops to grapefruit-esque sweet malts. Semi-sweet citrus aftertaste. Wet citrus/piney finish.
The mouthfeel was about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation could be felt appropriately for the style.
Overall, not exactly sure why I saw floaties, as the smell, taste and mouthfeel seem fine - so that doesn't tell me its old...I'm guessing that's just what this beer is supposed to be.

Poured from can canned a month ago. A good ipa very well balanced almost in the double category. Pine and stonefruits mixed with citrus bitterness. A tongue coating hoppiness that numbs you as you sip and an aroma that invites every sip.

This beer is something like the liquid equivalent of an especially pleasant walk through an evergreen forest here in the Pacific Northwest. One of my personal favorites in the style.
