The Latin root of Cavatica is cave, crevice, abyss or a dark place. Just like a stout should be.

A- pours pitch black with a generous( when I say generous I'm talking three and a half fingers) tightly bubbled light tan head. Superb head retention. One of the best looking stouts I've seen in a long time,

S- Decadent Belgian chocolate with an undertone of stewed dark cherry and molasses. Sweet maltiness with the right amount of roast and gourmet coffee in the middle. Subtle hop on the finish with more chocolate characteristics begging one to take a sip!

T- big mocha flavor on the front end with a cream and sugar note. Chocolate cake like malt envelopes the previous flavor while including what came before. Strong roast and mild coffee tones on the finish with a good amount of bitterness and a dusty yeasty characteristic.

MF- slick expressive mouthfeel with a medium body. Very active carbonation.

D- drinkable indeed. A stout that transcends the average Choco/coffee stereotype.

P.S. thanks to Drew for this one! I enjoyed it very much.

Canned on: 7-27-23

Many thanks to muchloveforhops3 for this can!

A - Pitch black pour with dense, creamy, toffee colored lacing.

S - Roasted cocoa and char dominate the nose.

T - Light roasted chocolate / milk cocoa malt base, delicate char and ends slightly on the sweeter side with very light bitterness.

M - Silky, viscous body with a well hidden ABV.

O - This definitely doesn't drink like an 8.8% beer = deceptive.

Coffee and toasted barley. It went down smooth. Tasted even better as it got close to room temp.
Glad I got another can to enjoy.

A surprisingly outstanding Stout.
Midnight Black, notes on nose of coffee and big chocolate and crystal malt. Flavors of milk chocolate, dark roast coffee, cacao and a mild hop finish. An outstanding Stout. Shelves need so much more of this stuff.

16oz can

Pours over a finger of creamy light brown head into my Nonic. Retention is fantastic, and after a few minutes, nearly a finger of head remains. Initial lacing looks wonderful. Body is jet black. Looks great so far.

Nose is pretty roasty, dry, faint bitter chocolate. Definitely has an edge to it. Not quite as balanced as I’d like, but it smells good.

Flavor is definitely roast forward. Chocolate comes out over time. Slightest alcohol flavor, no bite. Good, definitely an imperial stout.

Carbonation is medium high. Body is pretty substantial, this has some weight to it for sure. Slightly dry; there is some sweetness in the background that comes out quite a bit as it warms but it’s largely drowned out by the elevated bitterness, which is quite noticeable. Points for not being cloying at all. This is a pretty big mouthfeel. Despite the large swing both ways (bitterness/sweetness) it’s somewhat balanced and definitely engaging.

Drinkability is quite nice, all things considered. Alcohol is in check and it’s not too sweet.

Appearance turned out lovely. Great lacing all the way down, and the head was very resilient.

Overall a solid stout.

Look: Black as night with a frothy brown head that erupts from the pour and settles to a pillow, leaving an awesome coating of lacing behind
Aroma: Warm brown bread, slightly burnt toast, chocolate, ethanol, roast, and some earthy notes
Taste: Starts out with layers of bready malt and roast that immediately develop depth as a punch of dark chocolate comes on and joins in. Some earthy hops and roasted barley shine in the middle before closing with raw cacao, roast, and a bite, along with a little heat
Mouthfeel: Full, silky smooth, medium-high carbonation, and a robust and slightly dry finish
Overall: I dig it. This is a tasty and well-made Double Stout that brings nice, deep malt flavors along with plenty of hops together in a bold and big beer that is perfect for this cool and wet evening

I'm not a big fan of coffee notes in my beer, which this has. It's a full, rich stout, roasted malt, but the overpowering bitterness drives me away. Pro tip - eating a bit of chocolate at the same time makes it less bitter, and complements it very well. You're welcome.
