I really want to rate this higher, but for me, the caramel malt is overpowering. The aroma is delightful, hoppy with nice balance, but upon taste, the hop gets overpowered by that malt character. I would like my double to be a bit more hoppy to balance that out. It's right there though, and I love the fact that it's pushing close to 10 abv but without the sweetness or boozy finish.

Dark Amber (12) draft pour at the brewery/pub; off white foam; spotty lace; good clarity. Caramel malt nose with grapefruit and grass notes. Caramel malt and citrus up front; bitter grapefruit rind finish. Medium mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Smooth, easy drinking with nice bitter grapefruit zest linger. Drinks lighter than the 9% ABV.
