500ml bottle, part of a few new offerings recently made available up here in the Great White North of Alberta.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden copper colour, with two chubby fingers of puffy, broadly foamy, and rather bubbly off-white head, which leaves some dissipating cloud cover lace around the glass as it gently subsides.

It smells of biscuity and grainy caramel malt, pleasantly muddled tropical fruit (strong on the melon side, though), a more domestic citrus and pome rind bitterness, and further leafy, floral, and piney hops. The taste is bready, doughy, and still fairly biscuity caramel malt, a weaker plain pale graininess, faint white pepper spice, blended melon and citrus fruity notes, and more weedy, piney, and leafy green hop bitters, with just a mere suggestion of the elevated ABV.

The carbonation is nicely rounded in its oft-probing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and so-so smooth, as the robust hops, while engaging, seem a bit too eager to traipse through the rose bed, as it were. It finishes off-dry, but trending towards the latter, as the malt puts up the good fight, against a still heady continent of West Coast hop gangstas.

Overall, an enjoyable version of an amped-up Yankee IPA, one that skirts and flirts with the DIPA border. Lots of varied hoppy goodness abounding, but not without a commensurate and sanity-maintaining malt backbone. Yup, that yin-yang thing is definitely prevalent, and that's why we hopheads freaking like it so much!

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/8/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, light honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, light honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness after the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, pine, light honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

500mL brown glass bottle with a packaging date of 05/13/15. Purchased in Portland, OR.

A PacNW IPA that's delightfully dry and understated.

Pours a brilliant copper hue with a solid white head, mediocre retention, and nice white lacing.

The aromas are surprisingly understated given the forceful package copy. It starts out with clean pine and herbal aromas that quickly give way to a softer, more fruity underbelly of orange citrus, tangerine, honeydew melon, and papaya.

Surprisingly medium bodied on the palate given the region it's from, the ABV, and the overstated copywriting.

It's malty mid-palate is no match for what is a rather abrupt bitter finish. However, overall, this is a balanced, refreshing, and very dry IPA. Would peg it closer to 5.5% ABV rather than the 7% stated on the label. Nice purity!

500ml poured to tulip

Pours a hazy gold. One finger of dense off white head, excellent retention and stickiness.

Aroma is a sea-breezy floral note from hops and the malts, somewhat faint

Tastes like a big german bock with ridiculous hops... after seeing the grain bill that makes sense. Primary hop note is herbal

Mouthfeel is full and lush for the abv... drinks bigger than it is.

Overall, was super glad I grabbed this one... if you're passing through PDX airport, they had this in the Made In Oregon shop (after security, so you can carry-on the plane). Interesting juxtaposition between the germanic malts and the NW hops, flavor wise it strikes me more like a big german lager than an IPA. Yeast notes are clamped down, and the pils and munich malts shine big in both flavor and body. While that may not be typical for the style, that was an excellent idea that resulted in an excellent beer.I'm taking a much bigger carry-on to PDX next time, for this gem alone.
