Fresh Hop IPA. It’s harvest time! Straight from Sodbuster Farms in the Willamette Valley come Brewer’s Gold and Simcoe hops straight from the vine to the boil. Fresh bright evergreen, red fruit and blood orange lead the way, pulling juicy pine and kind herb through the finish. Be green. Drink Killer Green.

In reflecting on 2008 beers, one that continues to captivate me is Killer Green. I had it on tap at Belmont Station during the fresh hop season, and I was very impressed. Plain and simple, it tasted like drinking a hop plant in a pleasant and entirely unique way. The rest of the beer was strong and typical for a double IPA (color, aroma, mouthfeel, etc).
EDIT: 2009 version was even better. No fresh hop beer that I have tasted has come close to this. Still like drinking a hop plant but has a sweetness to balance the bitterness. There are a few waves of flavors and after tastes. Very complex and amazing. Unmatched.
EDIT: 2010 version was a bit of a disappointment for me. Nose was still solid, but the dankness and freshness wasn't there for me in the nose or the taste. It is still a really nice IPA, but something didn't work this year.

Look: Murky deep orange leaning amber with an awesome looking puffy head that holds as a pillow and craters away, leaving ridiculous lacing behind
Aroma: I could smell it on the pour and glad my nose seems almost 100% back from battling covid. Freshly cut grass, pine, herbal and earthy hops both of the “someone’s literally chopping fresh herbs and vegetable matter right in front of you” kind of way, lemon balm, green grape skins, and yep, freshly picked hops
Taste: Holy hell, I think this is a hop flower smoothie as my initial sip is rewarded with green, pithy, and chewy hop oils and aromatics – grass, herbal tea notes, pine, light citrus, and tongue-scraping lupulin. Malt is present in feel but can’t compete with this hop onslaught and closes like it started, along with an awesomely unforgiving bite
Mouthfeel: Full – almost chewy but not quite, lightly slick, medium-high carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall: Awesome and delicious stuff. I drink this beer and Killer Red every year and it’s always good but I haven’t been wowed by it in a couple of years now and am very impressed and enjoying this year’s offering mightily. A great showcase of fresh/wet hop character throughout along with the in my opinion signature fresh hop palate-destroying bitterness. Outstanding ad of course, recommended. Side note: I haven’t secured this this fresh in years either as this was bottled 3 days ago and it shows/tastes

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/19/2019. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden/amber/light orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, black currant, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, black currant, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, minty, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, black currant, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.3%. Overall this is a fantastic wet hopped IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Fantastic Brewers Gold, Simcoe profile. Extremely vibrant, earthy, dank, and fairly juicy hops; with a great balanced clean bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected.

A mint taste overpowers any kind of balance. Disappointed, maybe a bad bottle/batch

centennial and simcoe in this gem, one of my favorite wet hop beers of the season so far, and it doesnt get much more fresh than on tap at the brewery, how perfect! these are hops we all know and love, so nothing new in terms of how they taste here, which i kind of like, it lets the quality be the defining factor, and its through the roof in this one. a surprisingly redder pour than anticipated, especially since they have a killer red they make as well, but i like the malt balance here, especially with these bolder, higher alpha, piney and intense hops, its almost mandatory to have a little crystal malt, not sure what this would be like without it. its never sweet, but the grain supports the hops well, it drinks a little bigger and slower, but i kind of want it to, let the wet hops sink in a little bit. i get very bitter grapefruit from the simcoe, more than most of these wet hop ones have, and i get fresh cut pine and all its sap and resin from the centennial, very woodsy, autumnal, and dynamic for hops that are as common as these varietals. a little bit of honey character from the grain is nice, especially in the texture, where the hop oils like the extra body and little bit of residual sugar. the whole thing is insanely fresh and really flavorful, round and drinkable too. among my favorite beers i had on this recent visit to double mountain, but these guys can do no wrong with the hoppy stuff, always on point! do the hops on this change from year to year? i have heard of brewers gold in this as well, which i suppose could be in here, there is some of that grassiness late, but to me its the pine that speaks loudest here.

This one pours a clear light yellow color, with a small head and lots of lacing.
This smells really funky and interesting- there's blood orange, gummy candy, mint, weed, pine, forest floor, and apple skin.
This is straight weird, but in a good way. It's just so earthy, it's almost like patchouli or potpourri, with fresh cut grass, weed, mint, and that sort of earthy layer of the forest floor- that's called loam right? There's no real malt character here. This is so hard to unpack.
This is light bodied, crisp, but not super clean, with a slightly lingering bitterness on the finish.
This is tough to figure out, but I think I enjoyed it.

Just one month old, still young. Dark amber pour, dense head, fair retention. Of course, it has hop aroma, this has also the same backgroud notes we experienced when walking through a field of harvest-ready hops - grassy, herbal. The beer grabs you and doesn't want to let go. Layers of flavor, lingering citrus flavors in long finish.

From BeerAdvocate magazine #130 (November 2017):
Bright amber with a super creamy, foamy head, Killer Green is piney, fruity, and juicy, with blood oranges, citrus rind, berries, a hint of melon, and an herbal quality throughout. Plus, it’s resiny with a leafy, raw edge. I also got some candied fruit-like sweetness and a dry bread crust finish. This IPA is packed with the fresh flavors of Centennial and Simcoe hops. Even at 96 IBU, it’s so damn smooth, too.

16.9 oz bottle, PDT 09-12-17, approximately 3 weeks ago- Pours burnt orange with a large white head that reduces leaving cobwebby lace and a blanket. Aroma is sweetarts, pixie sticks, spicy hops, with a name like Killer Green, you're expecting dank, resinous, weed, not candy, but still pleasant. The taste is spicy hops, piney, sweet malt, medium light bitterness that really shines long after the swallow, the carbonation tingles the mouth, enticing actually. Love this time of year.
