Blonde ale prior to the addition of Rainier cherries from the Columbia River Gorge. Our two house yeast strains are blended with Brettanomyces lambicus, and are allowed free reign for a year on the fruit to develop its complex character. Pie cherry, kiwi jam, and summer farmhouse take the lead, giving way to a juicy, refreshingly tart finish.

2017 Bottling

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy golden/amber color with a one finger head that quickly departs the scene; no lacing

Smell: Tart but fruity, with nectarine and Rainier cherry aromatics; oaky with a bit of barnyard

Taste: Honeyed necatarine and Rainier cherry up front, with the tart aspect kicking in rapidly; some barnyard funk, in the middle as well as some oak; the fruit dominates the finish, with both sweet and tart elements interplaying

Mouthfeel: Medium body with low carbonation that fades with the head

Overall: Despite the fading carbonation (which may be a function of age in the bottle) I liked the flavor profile

Thanks, JohnGalt1, for the opportunity

12oz pour at Nectar, in Kendall Yards, Spokane, for $7.

Opaque and apricot in appearance, with the fastest disappearing head I have ever seen.

Rainier cherries used here, so the aroma isn't as straightforward as most Krieks. I get cherry, orange and even a little grapefruit in the nose. The Brett is also present and accounted for, but it's a little restrained.

Again, like in the nose, the flavor is not typical for the style but is more complex. Lighter and citrusy up front, rather lemony, with a tart, slightly vinegary taste from the Brett, and finishing with a gentle bitterness, but things don't really get cherryish until the aftertaste.

Quite light bodied, slightly juicy mouthfeel.

I think I'd really dig this on a warm day, not when it's about 35 degrees outside and raining. By and large, Double Mountain tends not to blow me away, but maybe I've been drinking the wrong beers from them.

2013 version, bottled on date says 7/9/14. I was a bit worried this might have sat too long, but it actually came out terrific. Had a mellow tart bite with the cherries rather muted until the very end on your tongue. Is a bit higher ABV at 10.3 than this is listed at currently.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2017 vintage. Pours slightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a small foamy off white head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. No lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leather/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leather/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leather/musty funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/tart/sour/spiciness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and body body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.9%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited sour/wild ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; dangerously smooth and fairly crisp to drink for the big ABV, with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic/tannic. Amazing balance of big juicy/jammy cherries and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great clean pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example. Not overwhelming on any aspect.

2017 vintage on tap at their brewery! i have never seen a kriek so pale, this is blonde with just the faintest pink hue to it through the haze, maybe a lighter colored cherry was used, not sure there, but its delightful beer, very sour, but very interesting at the same time, still yet to have a beer from these guys that i havent really liked! not much head here, and a strong white vinegar sourness rising up in the nose. the fruit seems subservient to the acidity, and i get as much lemony lactic character as i do cherry, but the cherry i get is tangy as well, some white wine notes here too, and less funk than anticipated, more bacterial than wild to me. the alcohol is crazy well hidden here, even though its real acidic, its also quite dry and light in body, no trace of it being this strong at all, wow. the cherry comes out a little more in the flavor, and more and more as it warms, but its never as intense as many krieks out there, and the cherry is just another element of a relatively complex beer, not necessarily the driver of it. some light peach notes here too, white wine, lots of tannins, and even a belgian ester here at the end. maybe too sour to drink a whole lot of, in fact, definitely so, but a very tasty beer and a real different type of kriek than i am used to.

This one pours a light straw yellow color, with light tints of orange, with a very small head, and no lacing.

This smells like stone fruit, orange, and lemon- not like the typical cherries you're probably used to, as this uses Rainier cherries. There's also a light bitter spice, and some lemony funk.

This is a really cool use of a really cool cherry varietal. It doesn't taste much like traditional cherry flavor, there's more stone fruit and lemon here, with a bit of grapefruit and orange-y funk as well, with some funky brine flavors as well, and a touch of oak. This is really fun.

This is light bodied, spritzy and drinkable, with a crisp and sparkling level of carbonation. It's clearly well built and brewed.

This brewery seems to really have a handle on fruited American-style lambic-esque beers.

Pale, hazy golden pour. Instant big, airy head fades fast. Tart, fruity nose. Sweet, but not necessarily strong cherry essences. Taste also builds on the tartness. I guess the Rainier cherries lend their own character to this, making it more of a straight up a sour than the traditional kriek.
