My local trader, tone77, and I did another pick-up/drop-off the other day and this time our roles were reversed - I dropped off while he was at work. More bottles for me to keep the numbers aligned with The CANQuest (TM). So be it!

From the bottle: "Saison ale brewed with 100% natural raspberry juice".

My pour resulted in just better than a finger of foamy, cotton candy pink head with decent retention. Color was a hazy pinkish-amber. Nose was ... well, you had better like raspberries going into this one! This smelled like my late paternal grandmother's backyard raspberry patch! I poured a lot of this during the early-Spring Taste of PA fest and I can tell you, it is a real hit with a specific audience. A real panty peeler, if you get my drift. Mouthfeel was thick and full with a blast of raspberry tartness on the tongue. Finish was equally tart and highly refreshing. This would be an excellent beer for the summer, ABV notwithstanding.

Appearance: Pours a clear peach color with a very foamy head; plenty of lacing left behind

Smell: Raspberry fruit and yeast; sweet and tart

Taste: Raspberry, plain and simple, with fruity sweetness and tarty complexity

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: Like others, I don't think much of this as a Saison, but as a fruit beer, it is very good and I have rated it as such

When i poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a dark amber color body, with a little bit of fizzy head. The smell is dominated by raspberries. The taste has a nice tart taste of raspberries, with a little bit of hop notes. This beer has a good mout feel, rolls off the tongue very nice. Overall this is a good drinkable beer.

A - Looks pretty nice with a good level of carbonation and a 1/2 inch of head that forms a thick lace.

S - Smells of sweet and tart raspberries, maybe a touch of lemon or lime from the farmhouse side.

T - Actually better than expected. Mostly tart raspberries and a clash of lemon as well with a bit of vanilla sweetness. Finish is crisp and sharp.

M - Light to medium drinks very well.

Overall I expected this to be just another raspberry knockoff but they did a very sweet job of making a farmhouse ale with raspberry flavors. Would buy again.

A-pours a bright amber color with an average white head which leaves a small ring of lacing that lasts throughout.
S-high point of the beer. Tremendously atomic with raspberries wheat and lemon.
T-very complex flavor with sweetness from raspberries up front sour lemons follow and finished with a pepper note.
M-medium body with a peppery after taste and very dry feel.
O-well brewed and complex flavored balanced well with sweet, tart and spice. Unlike any other beer I have had.

This was much better than the Monkey Wrench in my personal opinion. The beer poured out as a murky looking orange color with a white head on top. The smell of fermented raspberries came through on this one. The other aromas that the regular Monkey Wrench had were masked by the fruit in this one making this a much nice beer to drink. the flavors of raspberry come through nicely also. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Overall this brew was pretty good I thought.

Hmm, interesting. This was in a corked bottle. I was expecting a raspberry bomb but was pleasantly surprised. The appearance was less pink than I would have thought. The smell was of nice raspberries and the taste was kind of basic. Not much of a saison and not much raspberry. It reminded me of a Magic Hat #9 but with different fruit. Mouthfeel was thin and spritzy and drinkability was very easy and smooth. Not as sweet as other reviews led me to believe. Glad I tried it and would try again.

A- Pours a nice red/pinkish color with a very small thin white head

S- Has a nice aroma of yeast and saison funky smell. Also get some lemon and raspberry aroma as well.

T-Starts off with a nice raspberry flavor then followed up by a yeasty lemon flavor and then finish's with some more raspberries

M-Medium body with Great carbonation

D-Overall i liked this brew better than some on this site. Im not sure its a saison but it is very tasty and very drinkable. At 7% i could have 3 or 4 of these a night. A very interesting brew that id love to have again

I drank this from a pint glass...

It pours a murky dark orange color with a soapy, foamy sky-rocketing head that clung to the glass. The smell consists of wheat, raspberry, a slight hint of metallic and grassy/ lemon hops. The taste is tart with flavors of wheat, some tart raspberry and metal with a slightly sour and grainy aftertaste. The beer is very light with a boatload of carbonation and a tart, dry finish. I really enjoyed this interesting take on the saison, the raspberry was a nice addition adding just a hint of tartness with nothing overpowering the flavor.

Thanks goes to Jwiss22 for this unique extra. Poured from the bottle into my duvel tulip.

A: Pinkish orange hue. Two fingers of bright white head. Little bits of lace remain.

S: Super sweet artificial raspberry is the dominating character. It smells a lot like cotton candy. There's just a hint of lemon and funk that can be picked out. A touch too sweet for a saison or any beer for that matter.

T: Very well balanced flavors of raspberries, lemons and light yeasty funk. The sweetness from the nose has been cut almost in half. Thankfully.

M: Light and bubbly body. Lots fo carbonation.

D: Overall a nice change of pace. Easy drinking and tasty. A full 750 would have been a chore but splitting it had me very satisfied.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a shandy glass.

A- Pours a clear golden body with a modest very light pink head that reduces quickly and leaves no lacing.

S- Strong raspberries, grains, cherries.

T- Raspberry notes dominate here - sweet raspberry juice, some grainyness, light vanilla, creamy aftertaste. Not bad.

M- Light and refreshing. Medium carbonation

I liked this beer - nothing amazing but definitely something I'd pick up on a hot summer's afternoon.

Love this beer ! The pour is a nice reddish color . The smell is no doubt raspberry and some citrus.
The taste is tart with a wheat and another type of citrus flavor ! This is not big sweet , but just enough to be very refreshing. In fact , I am not sure this shouldn't be classified as a fruit beer, but I could be wrong
Fruit beer or Saison, its a treat ! I am becoming a big fan of this brewery. That have been putting out some very solid products .

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #42 (Jul 2010):

A lively pop of the cork is followed by heady beginnings and a lace that crowns the hazy amber brew. Sweet, tart raspberries, vague spiciness, fresh grain and a bit of earth are all present in the nose. With bold carbon- ation and a fluffy body, the raspberry flavor starts with a quick sweetness, then moves more toward tart. Light spicy character melds with the dried hay graininess. There is some alcoholic warmth and a hint of esters on the breath. This brew is semidry, slightly tart and has a yeasty finish. While the Saison does not jump out at our faces, it does, however, work. Good use of fruit.

Acquired from SamuelJackson45 via LOKO 4 Locals so a big THANK YOU goes out to him!
consumed 11/28
poured in to a pint glass

A: This beer pours a hazy deep amber, burnt orange color with a one finger of sudsy, soapy looking head. Nice head retention that leaves wisps of lacing on the glass.

S: Nose is raspberries and lighter yeast notes.

T: Taste is far more fruity than I would have anticipated. Strawberry, raspberry flavoring hit at the forefront - rather dominating. Yeast comes through to try to quell the fruitiness, light dank notes. The raspberry flavoring comes back in to finish it out.

M: Light bodied, moderate to higher carbonation, crisp and prickly, light feeling.

O: Goes down easy, tasty, not filling, mild kick, an interesting representation of style. I enjoyed this beer more than I thought after the initial sip. The fruit flavorings are more sweet than tart. However, it's a light easy, crisp drinking beer.

Cloudy amber in hue topped by bubbly white head that clings to the glass. Sweet aroma of bubblegum, raspberry, tartness, candy syrup. The taste is better than expected: light fruit (pears, maybe some banana), wheat, slight honey, raspberry pokes its head out finally towards the finish and a dry aftertaste with echoes of stale fruit ensues. Light in body with medium carbonation. The alcohol is hidden fairly well behind the sweet fruits and the dry body is what saves this beer from being too candy. It's worth a try but I wouldn't go beyond one pint.

This beer pours a bold, clear copper with a thin head and no lace. It's aroma is musty hay and fruity. The flavor is mainly sour cherries with a bit of sweet malt. The mouthfeel is medium and has a mild warmth in the finish. Allentown Space Monkey is a good beer, recommended!

12 oz bottle, no date.

pours a reddish copper color, big white head. actually a bit too much foam, hard to pour without overflowing glass. nice raspberry aroma, I'm surprised it's natural because of how strong it is. taste is a bit tart and puckering. not much sign of a saison in there at all. thin to medium body, good level of carbonation.

It's rare I like a fruit beer - but this one is good for a summerday.

Pours a slightly hazy golden-sienna with a thick off-white head that laces and has a very slight purple color to it.

The nose had a solid amount of fresh raspberry, but it's not syrupy or overpowering like most fruit beers. A nice, light roasted caramel body comes through and ultimately has a dry note at the end.

First taste is a bit tart and slightly metallic. The body isn't as thick as I expected, but crisp and fresh. Some distinct malts are present, and I'm guessing the hops are citrusy enough that they get lost in the raspberry taste that surrounds everything.

Light body, very crisp and refreshing, lingering tartness. Overall a very nice refreshing and not overpowering (thankfully) raspberry beer.

Appearance - Pours a gorgeous Strawberry Amber that looks fantastic in the sunlight. It has a very foamy 4-5 inch head from gentle-moderate pour. It takes a while for this to dissipate.

Scent - Raspberry, citrus, hops and some sort of malty scent that is hard to describe.

Taste - Somewhat similar to Bearded Lady by 3 Beards Beer Company. It's more tart and the wheat distinguishes it from the rye that Bearded Lady had. The yeast is not as notable as I was hoping for for this. It's not overly sweet but it still has a bit of a punch to the taste buds.

Mouthfeel - Pretty high carbonation that leaves the tongue tingling. There is also a bit of smoothness of from the wheat malts. Not as multilayered as some beers but not unpleasant.

Overall - Not sure how I feel. It's not bad but I don't know if I would get it again. Still, if you like Raspberry, this may be your kind of beer.

A: Light raspberry-amber coloring is filled with a strong and rapid sense of effervesce. Even with a gentle pour the head dominated, an off-white ice berg sculpture towers 3 fingers high with a rock solid retention rate. Spongy dabs of modest coverage coats the glass for lace. Clarity becomes more dense with subsequent pours.

S: Even on the pour the raspberries were strongly evident, sweet and sugary with an almost fruit juice like aroma.

T: The flavor starts out sweet and sugary, quickly turning to a slight tartness of raspberries. The flavor appears very natural, nicely balanced with fruity tones and a low hop profile letting the natural raspberries shine. As a saison, better then average, as a fruit beer, good.

M: Active mouthful, bubbly carbonation. Nice slick feel of raspberry juice that was sweet upfront and tart on the swallow.

O: Not a fan of fruit beers, but if your gonna make one a saison style seems the way to go. While it loses something in translation saison wise, as a fruit flavored beer it works without being girlie or overbearing. Better then average consumption rate.

This brew pours a cloudy copper with a small white head which dissipates quickly. Heavy carbonation and light lacing on the glass.

Smell-Raspberries, apples, bubblegum also there is a wheat like, yeasty earthy wet straw smell.

Taste-Bubblegum, raspberries, apples, cloying sweetness moving to tartness. Slightly earthy and dank on the backend.

The mouthfeel is tingly, due to the carbonation. Slightly dry taste left in the mouth after swallowing.

Overall, this is an interesting take on a Saison; it is much more sweet than earthy or yeasty. Not bad at all and worth a try but this brew is so sweet I don't believe I could have more than two in a session.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a light brown color with pinkish hues and a 1/2 inch head. Smell is big on raspberries. Taste is also a bit heavy on the raspberry, a bit sourish, some lemon and hops are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall makes for an interesting and decent brew.

750 mL cork and caged bottle. As with all of their recent bottles, labeled as a unified "Fegley's Brewworks", but smaller print says brewed by Allentown Brewworks. Description states, "Saison Ale brewed with 100% natural raspberry juice."

I didn't have a great experience with Monkey Wrench on draft, but hadn't tried that one or this guy in bottles yet so I was cautiously optimistic opening this up. Cork comes out easily and with great force, but isn't followed by any gushing. Pours from the bottle a pink champagne color and settles in the wine glass a hazed lighter golden amber color with an initially huge fizzy off white head that quickly fades to a finger thick layer with minimal lacing. Aroma is dominated by a slightly sour, not quite natural raspberry fruitiness. Behind that, more traditional earthy and lemony saison notes pop out, with minimal spice or wheat aromas.

The flavor unfortunately is a bit of a let down, walking a delicate line between raspberry soda and the nice idea of a raspberry spiked saison. The dominating flavor, like the aroma, is a slightly less than natural raspberry flavor, sweet and tart. Body is medium light, with fine, heavy carbonation producing a dry, clean finish with lingering tangy sweetness. Most disappointing is that I'd be hard pressed to call this a saison if I hadn't read the label. Closer to the finish, there is a stronger wheat and lemon-y zest background behind the fruit. However, there is also a mild buttery texture and flavor in the finish. Overall, if you like raspberries, this is probably worth a try at $7 a 750 once this hits local Wegmans and Whole Foods, but I wouldn't go into this expecting a great saison.
