Hoppier than a typical lager, but a fine accompaniment to a beach day. Pour this caramel-colored beer into a glass and put your feet in the sand. Cheers!

Clear amber appearance with a beige head. Mild aroma of malt syrup, gentle caramel and light fruity notes. Similar flavor, malty and light with a touch of hop bitterness. Light and crisp with a plain finish.

After reading through some of the reviews I'm a bit confused as to what people are drinking because this beer although I wouldn't call it a summer beer, it goes down real smooth with an excellent taste and no foul aftertaste like many of the high-quality beers I have tried. Not to mention it is one of your more inexpensive six packs that you can find at a store for 8.99 which is generally a dollar or two less than your average premium six pack. It has a copper color, smells like a lager which is good & the taste has me wanting more. It is your everyday beer although it wouldn't be one of my top choices to drink on a beach being that it is brewed in Key West. Overall quality beer at an excellent price.

I got this as part of a fund raising raffle. As was the case with most of the beers in the basket, I rolled my eyes and thought "why me" but it's perfectly fine as an inoffensive American Amber/Red Ale that isn't as overly hopped as everything else seems to be these days. There's no need to be snobby over this pleasantly malty thirst quencher. Plus it's free, kind of, and went for a good cause (successful kidney donation from a son to his father).

Pours a clear medium amber with persistent lacing.
Smell is grainy malt and a hint of caramel fruit.
Taste is light sweet caramel, slight citrus near the finish.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin.

Key West Sunset ale pours a dark copper color, with a nice sized, long lasting head. Aroma is rich and grainy. Flavor is also grainy , with a sharp malt finish; with a whiff of cheapness. Good body and feel. Overall, its a no frills beer, pretty simple.

the first beer of vacation! thats always such a good feeling, escape the work life for a week with the family in a nice climate, land at the airport and exchange the boots for some flip flops, and head to the nearest seafood shack for an ale and a fish sandwich, really a great experience! this beer works well in that context, rather robust amber ale, copper in color and with a decent body on it, holding a full inch of off white head too, lots of bubbles rising up to join it. the aroma is a little sweet and a little nutty, pleasing and not at all boring, mildly toasted and smooth, not quite caramelized. the flavor is about the same, not as sweet as many beers this malty are, but losing some of its lightness to the weight of the grain, not exactly a hot weather crusher, and it warms up kind of heavy too, coming apart a little bit, i get some strange minerals and dried fruitiness, more fall than summer, and it just has a lot more body than i need in the baking florida sun. its a nice wash down for a blackened fish blt, which was a heck of a sandwich, and i appreciate the higher carbonation. it also tastes fresh, has a real malt base, and is satisfying me even if the marginal utility is quickly diminishing. ill drink a bunch of these this week i am sure, a nice welcome to vacation but hopefully not the best beer i drink while i am here!

We had a mini-vacation in Key West last month and I didn't see this beer there, but came across it in a local store. Bought a six in the spirit of having had a good time. A bit disappointed; not bad but nothing special. Amber color, slightly cloudy; one finger of head receded quickly; not much aroma; feels carbonated; mild ho-him flavor.

12oz. bottle served in my Spiegelau IPA glass - no bottle dating evident. Pours a translucent copper with a fluffy, one inch, bright white head. Nose is pretty blah - caramel malts and grassy notes. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of some hints of cardboard. Mouthfeel is light in body with a pleasant, even carbonation. Overall, drinkable but not good. Might be old (who knows, no dating) but it's pretty one-sided and lackluster.

Pours a crystal clear amber red with a half finger of off-white foam.

Toasted malt and a smidge of citrus wafts from this brew, but nothing quite appealing.

Citrusy hops and sweet toasted and caramelly malts lend most of the flavor.

Light-bodied, medium-high carbonation, crisp, light.

Overall, while I can't say this beer is terrible, there's not much to it and it's definitely one to pass on.

12 oz bottle. Smell fresh, lightly hoppy. Look clear, carbonation and foam as it should be in regular lager. But taste flat, quite tasteless, just fizzy carbonation and slightly metallic acid after taste. Surprisingly disappointing. No bottling date, but for them I hope it is just old.

On draft at Florida cracker cafe in st. Augustine. Orange-amber with a thin white head. Pretty transparent. Smell is caramel, roasted malt with some citrus and pear. Taste is about the same. Light body and pleasant carbonation. A nice refreshing Florida beer

On tap at the brewery taproom. Revisited in FL on tap in March 2019.
Reddish amber body with good clarity and a durable off-white head.

Good bitter-sweet balance. Ample light and medium malt flavor.

Feel: a bit thin but this works OK with the medium+ carbonation and light dryness.

I think that this brewery has stepped up it's game since some of these earlier reviews. I bought a six pack on advice of the young woman working at a small liquor store instead of driving half an hour to look for craft beers. I was a little skeptical, but decided to give it a try.

As far as appearance and aroma, it pours a nice orange amber. The aroma has some sweet malt and maybe a little bready. It did pour with a little bit of head.

The first taste, I was thinking that it wasn't a bad example of what it says it is, an American Amber Ale. Maybe a little on the bland and generic side. The taste has some nice malts, slight bitterness but definitely present hops, and a little lingering tartness. It's a very clean presentation with no perceived defects. The carbonation is a little higher than I expected, more like some saisons. The mouth feel has appropriate body for the style, but only a litte on the lighter side. Overall, I have to say tha t this is a very standard, but decent beer. It's definitely not either bland or wattery. Not "interesting " but certainly pleasant and enjoyable.

A nice dark color with a subtle, yet lasting, citrus aftertaste. It's a very clean beer that you can enjoy any day. Very reminiscent of Blue Moon, but perhaps with more citrus. Only a hint of bitterness. Not the best, but definitely a beer that goes well with everything.

On tap at Bonefish Grill in Merritt Island, FL, poured into shaker pint. Amber body, clear, with off-white head that fades quickly to a ring and slick. Aroma is malty, grainy, and if you really dig in, there’s some hop spice. Boring. Taste is lackluster, too. Some caramel malt sweetness, a touch of husk-like bitterness. Medium body, thin, watery texture, average to soft carbonation, dry nearly taste-free finish. Bland.

Had on tap (large plastic pitcher) at Bonita Bill's in Fort Myers, FL, complete with a zip lock baggie full of ice floating in it to keep the pitcher of beer cold. Beautiful deep color, thickish mouth feel. Decent, solid beer. Enjoyable while sitting in the sun and definitely a better option than the BMCs.

Had this on tap at a seafood joint on the way to Fort Myers beach. It was the only non-macro beer available. Ick. Would not drink again. Watery, no mouthfeel, weakly hopped. Served in a frosted mug to add insult to injury.

Poured from a 12FL.OZ. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy light brown body with a thin white head.

Smell: Grainy malts.

Taste: More grainy malts. Very thin.

Mouthfeel: Very thin body, but smooth and refreshing.

Overall: Key West Sunset Ale billed as the Beer of the Conch Republic but brewed in Cape Canaveral (??) - marketing ploy, no more no less.

I love to try craft brews. I'm a Native Floridian, so when I saw Key West Sunset for sale as part of a build your own six pack, I really wanted to try it and support workers in my state. I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. The head was pitiful and was gone within a minute. No lacing. The appearance is a nice reddish brown. The flavor tastes a bit like roasted nuts to me. Overall this beer is drinkable, but nothing to write home about. I don't see myself buying it again.

I live in florida and only a few minutes from this brewer so I decided to give this beer a try.
Not impressed. It looks and smells pretty good , however, there is no flavor. I was disappointed at least. It seems like florida brewers only produce wheat or amber ales and their not succeeding at it. I would like to see a dark beer for once. Their 'Florida Lager' is pretty good though. Had it on tap at a local bar.

Good smelling beer. Beautiful appearance. Poured it and thought, wow, this will be a new favorite. Extremely disappointing. Very little taste, no hops, a little roasty bitterness. I bought a sixer and struggled to reach for another. Really would rather drink a BMC rather than this. A lot cheaper too. Basically this is an amber ale trying to be a light beer. I will be fair and end on a good note though. Decent aftertaste. Roasty and a little bitter.

My parents brought me back some booze from the sunshine state. Thanks mom and dad.

Amber with a quick to scurry head. Smells like cooled amber extract heavy wort. Tastes toastier than I was expecting. Aspirin finish.

Smoother, less grainy Yuengling? Probably better on a warm Florida beach than a cold Dorchester double decker.

On tap in a pint glass.

A- Light golden-amber color, 1f off-white head. Minimal lacing, lots of bubbles.

S-Lots of wet musty grains.

T- Just enough malt and a touch of floral hop to elevate it above a typical AAL.

M- Light and refreshing, well carbonated. Not enough, though.

O- When it was this or AAL on tap, it sufficed. Barely.
