Mayflower IPA

A-Copper with a decent head. Looks pretty attractive. Laces well and has a bunch of pretty bubbles that rise aggressively.

S-Malts and hops are pretty well balanced here. Smells quite good. I usually am disappointed if my IPA isn't super hoppy in the scent department but I'm digging this one's stank.

T-Floral hops are the big ticket. I love the hop flavor in this beer. There's definately a bunch of malt on my tongue but its balanced very well. Unique taste.

M-Pretty legit. Sticky and floral. Medium body.

D-This beer goes down nice and easy. I have no trouble gulping down these hometown brews. One of my favorite local IPAs that come in a six-pack. A bit pricey at some stores. Would have to grab a six pack of Finest Kind by Smutty Nose or Leatherlips by Haverhill before this. Both are cheaper, and downright more flavorful in my opinion, but this one is no slouch. Would love a fresh glass at a bar!

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #51 (April 2011):

Head pops up pretty quick, not gushing, but four fingers high and took forever to drop down. Pale amber glow has a good clarity. Soft resin-like mint, spice and some citric ... an aroma takeover. Mild level of carbonation, smooth and a bit slick within the medium body. Hops slap down a thick oily flavor of spice, citric and mint ... bitterness is not rough, just firm. Yeah, there is malt there, but it struggles to poke through the thick blanket of hop flavor. Kiss of alcohol and exotic fruit in the semisweet finish ... there is the malt waiting for us in the end. Good drinking and an easy way to get your hop fix.

Pours a clear light copper/orange in color with ado get of white head. Aroma has a touch of floral hops but is mostly pale malts. Taste is slightly caramelly sweet upfront with a touch of floral, slightly citrus hop bitterness. Finish starts balanced leaning towards bitter but then changes to a subtle sweetness. Decent mouthfeel, nearly medium body low-moderate carbonation. Overall a decent beer but leans too sweet for my tastes. I find this beer to be somewhere between a generic American IPA and an English IPA. It had the more malty character of the English iteration but had the hints of citrus that are typical of a West Coast American IPA. Overall I'd sayvzthat this lacks a definitive identity especially in East Coast/New England/West Coast American IPA world. It's not a bad beer by any means but given the myriad of more appealing options I won't likely revisit this very options.

Pours a clear, amber color that's darker than almost every IPA I've ever had. Yellow tinted, white head. Decent retention and some sticky lace.

Smells partially of woody hops, partially of grapefruit hops but just mainly of fresh, hoppy hops. If you open up packet up fresh hops and stick your nose in that's what this smells like. Smell could be stronger although I guess that's just the English influence this company maintains. Underylying malt if you're looking for it.

Tastes like it smells--smooth, with hoppy hops but not obnoxiously hoppy. A heavy caramel malt base is present to set the stage on which the hops star. By no means balanced, but more malty than most. Very low carbonation. Heavy mouthfeel.

Pours a very bright orange/copper color with a great head & retention. Phenomenal lacing. Smell is of light tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, a bit "juicy." It smells good but would be better if it was a bit more up front...you gotta kind of dig for it. Taste is a little sweet up front with notes of peaches, a little mango, light caramel sweetness, even grassy, then the bitterness takes over and grabs on to the pallette for a good astringent finish. The malts really even things out as the beer warms up a bit and becomes an even more enjoyable brew. Mouthfeel has good carbonation, medium bodied, with a dry finish. Pretty good session ipa. Nothing that screams amazing, but nothing that puts you off either. Just a solid IPA offering from Mayflower.

12 ounce bottle, w/o freshness/bottling information. Pours dull golden amber, with an orange hue, the head is longlasting, tiny bubble and long lasting, leaving rich sheeting and plentiful lace on the glass. Bold and pleasing hoppy nose. Allowed to warm up quite a bit this Mayflower offering is smooth on the tongue and quite enjoyable. Quite malty, with glimmers of maple and whole wheat goodness, then quite smoothly hoppy with oily and herbal notes. Put it together and the result is a balanced IPA, that went quite nicely with a burger and salad. Nice moderatly hopped sessioner.

Appearance: copper, no head, little carbonation

Smell: a mixture of grapefruit, grass, and a pinch of bubblegum

Taste: heavy on the grapefruit, lemon, and a slightly soapy taste

Mouthfeel: smooth and light with a bitter aftertaste

Drinkability: This is a perfectly drinkable pleasant IPA, but nothing that jumps out. I will have this one again, but will not rush out to get it.

Yellow minimal head. Nose is herbal hoppy, grains. Taste is more of a balanced east coast IPA, herbal, floral. It's fine.

Thanks Harvester for the chance to try this IPA from afar!!!

A solid IPA with a great look and smell, but where this beer shines; is it's balance! If your looking for something life-changing... move on. If your looking for a text book IPA that is at the same time refreshing, you've stumbled upon it!
I give this beer 4's across the board.
Worth seeking out if your a fan of the style.
