Twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - black. Slight reddish highlights. Light tan head - very condensed and compact. Looks like a stout should, IMHO.

Aroma - very rich aroma. Coffee, oats, slight malt aromas in the background.

Taste - sweet and dry and nicely bitter in a "burnt" sort of way. Coffee comes in after a bit, some caramel/toffee notes, then the oats show up. This had a lot of flavor, but nothing really dominated. It is a good, solid tasting oatmeal stout. I do enjoy the contribution the oats make to both the flavor and the texture of the beer.

Mouth feel - medium bodied - far from "chewy". Carbonation seemed a bit high, but not unpleasant. Kind of a bitter. overcooked coffee aftertaste that I found oddly enjoyable. Mainly smooth and creamy.

Overall, this is a nice stout. Very drinkable, pretty uncomplicated. It is what it is, as the saying goes. It is an unpretentious, reasonably flavorful stout that is worth having.

Purchased at Spirited in Lenox, MA.

Bottle - Poured into a pint glass.

Wicked dark, almost black.

A short dark tan, almost brown head.

Smells tasty/wintery - coffee and oats.

Overall not bad. I enjoyed it.

Would only want to have a few in one sitting though.
