Peat, Bread, Warming, Creamy

This ale is all about nuances and subtleties. Very smooth and creamy with a chewy full body. Lovely malt sweetness of honey and faint caramel meets toasted bread and peated malt. Dried grass, clean alcohol, faint spice, & a kiss of hop bitterness in the middle. No real wow factor even with all of the nuances and subtleties though it does hit all of the bells and whistles for the style. Worth a shot to switch up your winter drinking.

Served into a pint glass at New World Tavern

Appearance: clear, red-brown in color, minimal head, low carbonation

Smell: deep caramel and light earth

Taste: deep caramel with alcohol, peat, light sweet chocolate, and brown sugar

Mouthfeel: sweet with alcohol burn at the end, medium-heavy body, low carbonation

Overall: Nice, sweet, and malty with some of the typical Mayflower taste...Certainly above average to good, but a step below the best. That said, I would get this again.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A - rich mahogany body with light molasses highlights. Tan head quickly dissipates to a very thin scattering of bubble islands. Very pretty.

N - caramel, boozy, woody scent.

T - malt forward with sweet notes of dark sugar and something rustic or woodsy. Mild bitterness.

M - its rich but not too thick. Not very bubbly. Slick.

O - great option for a slow sipping night in. Will be great in the cold months.

Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a rugged mostly dark brown color with a full finger's worth of white foamy head. Mildly dissipated to leave some thin wispy lace.
The aroma had some earthy to peaty to grassy character up front with a playful dark bready/toast-like maltiness came in and around to mesh very well.
The flavor was moderately sweet through the prior mentioned aromas and carried a light hop spice to even things out slightly. Mostly a dark bready to peaty aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, maybe a touch under with a fantastic sessionability about it. Carbonation felt nice and low as expected and warranted. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, pretty nice as a scotch ale and always welcome this time of year.

From the 12 fl oz bottle brewed in August 2014 and packaged in September 2014. Sampled on October 24, 2014.

Handsome looking copper-amber pour with a head that lingers for a short time. Nice clarity.

Lovely sweet caramel malt notes on the nose. No booze. Slight dank cellar feel.

The body is medium to full.

The taste is also very sweet and malt forward with just a hint of bitterness to balance it out. But sweetness prevails. Easy to drink, which is not necessarily a good idea at 8%. I like this style and Mayflower satisfies.

I had one of these recently bought directly from the brewery, what a great beer! A little smoke at the end but not over the top, well balanced malt and a high ABV. Had two of them and was definitely feeling it. Worth picking up while you can!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Reddish copper in color with a light tan head.

The smell isn't very strong, but is considerably smoky with a slight sweetness.

Very sweet malty flavor typical of a scotch ale but with a distinct smoke character that isn't overpowering.

Mouthfeel is medium.

At first glance this seems like a standard scotch ale, but the smoky flavors make it quite unique and very enjoyable.

Coppery brown with an unimpressive amount of retention. Smells great - lots of bold, immersive aromas. I get molasses, bread crust, plum and some peat smoke as it warms. Taste follows the bold and immersive olfactory impression with molasses oatmeal cookies, whole wheat bread and peat smoke. Super thick and chewy.

One of the better scotch ales I've had. Alemsith's rendition is the only thing that comes close at first thought.

On-tap 10/30/2014 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a dark reddish brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, dark fruits, vanilla, butterscotch and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and fruit. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. There’s also a touch of smokiness in the background. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.
