The beer pours a dark brown that is hard to see through on the brewpubs. Flavor is nice and slightly smoked. Good chocolate and coffee tones as well. Nice malty thing going on. Smooth and robust and definitely consistent. Feel light in body and is smooth with a nice bubble to it. Damn fine porter. Well balanced and thick. Nothing spectacular.

I think this used to be the Ryebust Porter (yet less heavy) but with a new name. Funnier name though!

A - Impressive milky brown head atop of a semi dark brown liquid.

S - Slight smoke with a touch of chocolate but coffee mostly steals the show.

T - Ow wow this is creamy! Starts off with a nice touch off chocolate then some coffee with a bite off smoke.

M - Smooth and delicious. loved it.

D - Well it was a great and hardly any bitterness. Another great offering by Rivertowne.

Got a growler at the Pourhouse.

A: Pours an extremely dark brown almost black looking. Gives a small tan foam head that dissipates to a slight film. There is ample lacing.

S: As it warms, there is ample amounts of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and smoke.

T: The rich roasted coffee and chocolate malt hit on the front end. The middle comes with the additon of some smoke or burnt wood and on the back end some bitter hops show.

M: Leaves a slick yet slightly bitter taste on the palate.

D: When I think of a Porter, this is what I envision. A very well put together porter with just enough hops to keep it from being too sweet.

Aroma: almost all sweet chocolate. Coffee which brings a little bitterness. A bit roasty / smoky.

Appearance: Nearly pitch black, held up to the light it is dark brown with a hint of red. Head doesn't stick around long, a thin layer around the edges is all that remains. Some lacing.

Taste: Very sweet. Chocolate first, coffee second. Nice and malty. Very smooth. Not as bitter as the usual porter. The coffee comes out with more bitterness as it warms up.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied. No carbonation. Very oily and creamy.

Overall: Nice and smooth. Pleasantly bold sweetness.
