Met up with James, who I didn't know it at the time but has since been identified by Ed & Heather as the drunk who ate all my mozzarella sticks at Blake Street Tavern in Denver a few GABF's back while I was taking the tour of the brewery & distillery. "Fucker!", the call a ½ dozen years overdue, but he brought me some homebrew so we're square. A decent but not terribly unruly ride out one night...

Stand alone on the side of the road, with a deadly get to from parking across the over there. 6 sides of an octagon shaped wood plank laminated bar, off the entrance seating 18 all around. Large waffle chip looking piece over the bar lined with mug club mugs along the perimeter and cross hatchings, flatscreens mounted above and growlers lining the top.

Strangely shaped room narrowing from the bar. Yellow walls over wood plank lowers, and droppish ceiling with sunken spots. The place is done in way too much Steelers whatever everywhere, but also some Xmas wrapped nothings and on the far wall, brewery beer boards listing beer by beer, fishing pics, old tyme (like before the letter "I" was available to everyone) black & whites of earlier than now type stuff, and shirts hanging. Flats throughout and all around for viewing images. On the far wall, a 3 barrel tank extending through the wall, the taps pouring from there. A row of 11 below 7 more above (center 3, singles outside). Next to the taps, some kind of vertical slat board listing tap selections, 1 to 18.

7 hightops & a single low boy around the bar, and another half dozen tables beyond, down and around some glass caged in brewing equipment to a wraparound room with a dozen tables and another dozen in a room through there, the windows growler lined. Copper brewing equipment to the rear of the center room with some sort of super special hang; some sort of a banquet space back there all curtained up. And of course, a small nook with darts & the obligatory Phil's golf game (live).

Samplers are served on a fish shaped wood piece slotted. The brewmaster's sampler offered 7 beers of my choosing (there's also an assistant brewmaster's sampler but it dealt less beers so I deemed it less good). Started with the Shepherd's Crook Scottish Ale, 5.1%, dark, smooth maltiness without the band aid; Highland Heather Scotch Ale, 9.7%, boozy, malty, lighter in color; Last Chance Vienna Lager, 5.5%, sweet, nicely balanced; Godoffle Hefe, 5.7%, sulfur nose, banana & clove; Casc-It (American ESB), 5.2%, on nitro, all cascaded up; Drunken Leprechaun (Dry Irish Stout), 5.2%, also on nitro, roasty; Old Wylie's IPA, 6.2%, nicely hopped. And I guess I have to choose another 7, so... Babbling Blonde, 5.3%, light, with a slight maltiness; Uterbrau, 5.3%, a very good alt, red, malty; White Lightning, 6.3%, grains of paradise & coriander, it's a big beer; Arctic Amber, 6.0%, decently balanced; West Coast Stout, 6.4%, nicely roasty; Razzmatazz, 5.2%, not overly cloying for a raspberry; Super Simcoe Extra Pale Ale, 5.3%, Simcoe, enough said. Win! And there's really only a handful left unvisited, so... Pineapple Under the Sea, 4.8%, oh yes, pineapple, uh huh, but the base beer is what I don't know; Brown Ale, 5.5%, good maltiness, as well it should; Super Simcoe Extra Pale Ale on cask, I am officially not liking my first beer here; and I decided to forego contestant number 18, the Ultra Light Tackle. The Last Chance Vienna Lager, Casc It, Old Wylie's IPA, Uterbrau, White Lightning, West Coast Stout, Super Simcoe Extra Pale Ale & Brown Ale were all very good, and that's ½ of them.

Had a cup of the wedding soup, only had to ask twice (actually, asked once and reminded once), and it was just okay. Toyed then, with the all you can eat crab legs, but no, I'll deal the blackened tuna salad. Hooray, Iceburg lettuce, you are king of all lettuce (even if everyone says you have less than zero nutritional value), and yeah, man, I was diggin' on them mandarin oranges goin' on. You know what woulda really made that salad money? Had it shown up with the French dressing I'd asked for instead of nothing but pain. Still, it was a good salad, I 'et it up.

Comfortable enough place. A decent crowd this Tuesday night, except for this bunch of ass clowns in kilts playing bar video games, they should shut up. Server spaced my soup and denied me dressing on the salad, but dealt me samples of what I missed on the samplers and was aesthetically pleasing. And the beers, they really were pretty good overall.

Visited on a Sunday just after the Steelers game had ended. The place was quiet empty. Bottom line - this place may have some warts, but the beer is good and it is well worth the visit. If you are one of the people looking for a deep brew pub experience, you may be disappointed, otherwise you may be pleasantly surprised.

Vibe - A classic Pennsylvania sports bar that happens to make good beer. 3.25

Quality - You're at the source. No worries here. 4

Service - Friendly and quick, but our waitress had very little knowledge of the beer she was serving or even how growlers pours worked. 3.75

Selection - I was surprise at the almost 20 different beers they had on tap. Highly hopped, ambers, sour stouts, DIPA, hoppy pilsner, etc. Wish I could have tried more.

Food - Seems to be hit or miss. I had the cheese steak, which was not bad, but a low on meat. They say that seafood is their specialty. I can't vouch for that. 3.75

Spacious, clean, big, lots of draft beer (all Rivertowne) and lots of their beer canned. The menu is large (typical tavern food). The place is warm and comfortable.

Such a great place to stop by and have a couple pints. Servers are very knowledgable about their beers and pairings. The service was great, even with having a seven person party at dinner and the food was fantastic as well as very reasonably priced. All around great place to stop at and try the new brews they have on tap!

Amazing Beer and Amazing Food...What else even needs to be said. You have to go to the Pourhouse. Always between 14-18 different Microbrewed beers made right there in the restaurant. If given a chance go sometime in the fall and get the Pumpkin Spice Beer, it's amazing. I'm a regular and the food and beer is what keeps me going back.

Arrived at Rivertowne and thought it was closed...no activitiy or signage screaming open and come drink. The quality of the food and beer was very good. The server was fine didnt really have much interest in shooting the breeze and did not have confident selection in food or beer. There is plenty of beer styles to choose from...you cant find somthing you got issues. I only had the pretzel and it was GREAT! I didnt think it was expensive. 14 tasters and a pretzel for $18 + tip. Overall it was a not bad and would recommend it.

We have been to Rivertowne Pourhouse several times. The atmosphere is very much like a typical sports bar. It does not particularly feel like a microbrewery, and it is very laid back. It is safe to say that families come out here. The food is good, we had a bucket of wings and a pizza. They both were very good. The pizza was simple, with a great tomato sauce that was uncomplicated and let the pepperoni shine.

Now for the beer. I have had the blueberry in the past, and it has been very good. They make a pumpkin in the fall that is great. This time around I had two. I had the peach, and it was pretty good, all in. It had a great peach smell and finished dry. On a whim, I tried the pineapple. They had a Hawaiian name the first night, and the next day they had renamed it. It was cloudy and very pineapple smelling. The taste, wow! It was amazing for a fruit beer. My husband had the IPA and really liked it. All of the beers have been very good.
