I purchased this beer from South Lyndale Liquor and drank it a week ago. It has a best by date of 10-21-15.

L: hazy amber gold with rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" frothy off-white foam collar with poor retention

S: millet, buckwheat, rice and sorghum and show up in the aroma along with along with light fruit, pear, a hint of bread crust and a trace of oxidation

T: lightly sweet fruit, a hint of apple, pear, and grape leading to a sweet-tart finish with some oxidation

F: Medium light body and medium high carbonation

O: Despite its age this beer is still drinkable. The millet and buckwheat dilute the sorghum a bit and cut some of the sharpness found in some gluten-free beers.

Pours nearly clear, just a light haze. Nearly a 4 finger white head from a hard pour. The head recedes rather quickly, eventually disappearing completely.

Very hoppy aroma initially, but sweet malts soon join in the fun. Notes of pine, over ripe citrus, tropical fruit, and syrup.

Initially, a moderately tart and citric taste, with a light sweetness developing later. Lemon-lime with a light but lasting bitterness of grapefruit peel. Hints of pineapple.

Early on, the carbonation makes it feel more full bodied than it really is. In the end it's more light to medium in body. Drying to lightly astringent. Smooth after the carbonation abates.

My first beer after realizing I'd developed a gluten intolerance. I was pleasantly surprised. A bit heavy on the carbonation at first, but I liked it. It's easy drinking and flavorful.

500 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 9/23/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger foamy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of pineapple, grapefruit, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate bready malt-like notes; with solid strength. Taste of pineapple, grapefruit, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, light pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate bready malt-like flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast ester notes present. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is a nice gluten free hoppy pale lager style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate bready malt-like flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

A: The beer is crystal clear light yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of gooseberries are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of gooseberries and some notes of tropical fruits. A light amount of bitterness is perceptible. Faint hints of sorghum start to creep in as the beer warms up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is probably the best gluten-free beer that I have ever tried as the hop flavors mask most of the "off" flavors that you might expect from the sorghum, especially if you drink it cold. The hop aromas and flavors are very interesting and can rival those from IPLs, except that they are a little weaker in strength.

I wonder now what was bothering me on Friday. I felt feverish, nauseous and even close to passing out. I had a stomach virus in Hurgadah, Egypt that got me hospitalized in 1991 and Friday reminded me of that. Now, since a day of ciders and Gluten-Free beers, I actually feel pretty good. I am staying at home tomorrow, also, but I feel a whole lot better. Am I becoming a G-F convert?

From the bottle: "Made from Millet, Buckwheat, Rice & Sorghum"; "Green's Ales are brewed and bottled by DeProef Brouwerij, Lochristi, Gent, Belgium."

I Pop!ped the cap and began an aggro pour, resulting in two-plus fingers of foamy, eggshell-white head with decent retention. In fact, the lacing that began to appear was better than some AIPAs in recent memory. Color was Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-plus quality clarity. Nose had an unexpected grassiness, more akin to a Pilsner. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was more bitter than a GER Pilsner, but not quite enough to be a Czech Pilsner. It had a pronounced grassiness without a malt presence, lending it a slight tartness in its place. Finish was dry, certainly, but not so much so as to be gasping. I think that this one might be the leader in terms of recommended G-F beers.

500 ml bottle - Product of Belgium.
Standard lager look, including high volume of visible carbonation.
Unusually fruity aroma suggests pineapple and other tropical fruits.
This carries over to the fruity flavor which has more than a hint of pineapple.
Light, highly carbonated body.

500ml bottle, the first new offering from this contract brewery in a very long time. Product of Belgium, indeed.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with two fingers of weakly puffy, rather loosely foamy, and mostly fizzy dirty white head, which leaves very little beyond a few specks of mitochondrial lace around the glass as it seems quick to subside.

It smells of ethereally biscuity, and strangely bready, er, 'malt', and strong, yet indistinct citrus, floral, and grassy hops. The taste is generic non-malt graininess - the sort of semi-sweet otherness that is sorghum and millet, and inoffensive as it gets here, I suppose, a bit of lager yeast, and more peppy leafy, weedy, citrusy, and grassy hops.

The carbonation is nice and peppy, with a strong edgy frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and generally smooth, even with the swirling hop goodness betrothed to this offering. It finishes fairly dry, the surprisingly and pleasingly innocuous malt character still handing over the reins to the heady hop interlopers.

I will admit outright, that I have not been a fan of Green's previous output - the alternagrains just don't have the oomph to make a tasty beer under their stewardship. That all seems to change here - I am mostly reminded of all those flavour of the month hoppy session 'IPAs' out there, which is high praise indeed for any gluten-free product, I'd say. Overall, good stuff, a hopped to the nuts, celiac-friendly lager, one even the rest of us can actually say we enjoy.
