My wife and I stopped here for lunch and beers on a Monday. We arrived just as they were opening so it was not busy. (It didn't get much busier later when we left either.) The place is located in a strip center along a busy street. Parking is available in a lot at the front. The interior has the vibe of an old neighborhood bar, a bit dark inside, and the smell of the place kind of matched that description. Several TVs were showing sports programming. Since they were not busy we had excellent service.

There were five beers available, so we ordered a sampler flight so that we could try them all. There were also 6 guest taps that included two craft beers, a Guinness, two mass market ciders and a Bud Light. The house beers were brewed to their respective style, but there was nothing exciting about them. We gave an overall score of 3.5 to them. The only negative note that I wrote was that the porter was a bit too hoppy for the style, but maybe that's the way the brewer likes it.

The food was good, but nothing to write home about. The place is worthy of a visit, but I wouldn't travel too far to visit this one.

Old school brew pub, multiple rooms, seems a little dark and cramped for my likes. 1/2 dozen of their own creations on taps and a few quality guest taps. Typical bar food including good wings. Worth a stop if in the area...expect friendly service, kinda noisy athmosphere, decent beer and grub, but nothing awe inspiring. Decent go to kinda place, nothing fancy, but decent.

Classic pub, old school feel, very home-y and comfortable. Reminiscent of your traditional neighborhood pub. Solid flagship with a seasonal rotating tap. Brew master is a super nice guy and very open to talking about his beers and other beers in general. A worthwhile venture for any BA in the area.

Sarasota Brewing Company is an interesting little place situated in a strip mall off of 41 below 72.

It's got a fairly strong "local" vibe to it with a seemingly solid line-up of regular patrons; and it's fairly interesting to look at although it's also kind of weird in a way.

The small 12 seat bar is the main focus as you enter, with some dining and a second bar around to the right. The main bar is wood with green padded-pleather along the edge to rest your arms on; and it's got a wood ceiling and back-bar, but there are ceiling tiles and ceiling fans surrounding that. Mugs hand above the bar, and along with the stone sections of the walls, it has an almost "lodge-like" feel. Perhaps it's had a past life as a Bavarian "beer hall" or restaurant? It's comfortable with an "old" feel, but the mish-mash of newer touches added in don't quite mesh and it's a little quirky. The only part of the atmosphere that's an actual drawback, however, is the odd smell that's part dirt and part cleaning chemical.

Neither the beer nor the food are outstanding, but both offer some interest and reward. Starting with the food, it's basic bar/pub food with a very slight edge at reasonable prices for the area, and there are some highlights: Mako Shark Bites, Seared Ahi Tuna, and Spinach Stuffed Oysters make good starters (let's not forget the wings, they're not the best but they're OK); and I'm not sure what the Chicago connection is, but the Chicago Italian Beef or Combo Sandwich are both nice, as is the Chicago Seven Pizza (and their other pies as well). On the beer side there seems to be a lot going on, and although not every beer hits the mark, the fact that there's such a rotation is nice. Would I like to see a better overall quality? Yes, but given the size of the brewery and the probable demand for the beer I don't foresee any 3-month-aged lagers in the future. And if you stop in during happy hour you can hardly complain about the prices!

In conclusion, it's not the best strip mall brewpub I've been to but it is one of the more memorable ones given it's local flavor and nitty-gritty charm. There's no flash, pomp & circumstance, or dreams of a Michelin star here - it's all real, and sometimes (usually for me) all you need is a basic meal with a not-so-basic beer.

Just to start, WOW! What a great brewery! While visiting Sarasota yearly now and staying in Siesta Key, the Sarasota Brewing Co. was not a far drive for an unbelievable experience. I enjoyed this venue twice in January 2011.

The atmosphere was perfect for this type of brewery testing. The music was right on and great staff and locals to help with the vibe. Wouldn't change anything except for the horrible Kansas and Oklahoma table covers on the tables :)

Quality you ask? Great! Not quite the classiest place you've ever been to, but we are talking about a Brewery in Florida. What do you expect? Tuxedos and coat service? I don't think so. Nice tavern feel.

Service was beyond wonderful. We had a server named Rita who clued us in immediately with the specials, great beers., and top picks for food. Very friendly and quick service as well.

Decent selection. There were 6 beers on tap we were able to choose, and I enjoyed every last beer in Pints (except for the Sarasota IPA in a Liter).

Food was spectacular! Here is what we ordered: We started with their Buffalo Wings and Nachos. Very exceptional. Then I ordered the Italian Beef Sandwich and this really nailed it with a pint of the Sunset Red Ale. They complimented each other greatly. Their original Beer Battered Fries were great as well.

Very cheap if you go during their Happy Hour (M-F= 3-7 with specials on their beers). A great place to visit if living around the area or even visiting. Will be in again thanks to the wonderful service and great beer! Hope they brew new beers for us!
A+

This was my second time here. I thought they had a little better variety of other taps besides their own the last time. I remember they had Lagunitas IPA the last time. But that having been said, this time they had have a couple of CCBs (Jai Alai IPA and I forget the other one). I had the local IPA and thought it was terrific. So good, I had another for my second. We had some wings to go with them and they were fine. It is a bit of a dated place, but very friendly with good service, lots of TVs for sports etc.

Have been here before but I have finally taken the time to rate a few beers and to put in a review of the place.

The place overall is a bit dated but I think the Old World European type feel is what they are going for. They have a nice bar areas with a restaurant area that consisted of booths and tables.

The service was good overall. I had the wings which were pretty good. Not a ton of sauce on them (I would have liked more) but they were served nice and crispy. We missed happy hour but they have some pretty good happy hour prices if you can drop in during happy hour.

They had six of their beers on draft. Their bottle list consisted of all macros (which is a huge let down). Their beers for the most part are average but the IPA and porter showed than can brew some pretty good stuff.

Overall an okay place.

Gulf Gate Drive off of 41. I'll be frank with you - you should call for directions as it is just East of US41.

The entry opened onto a wooden statue of an old-time bartender with apron and braces holding a mug of beer in his left hand. The inverted, "L"-shaped beer was on a slight left oblique to the doorway with a "U"-shaped bank of padded benches fronted with standard tables and chairs. Lavs all of the way aft, left. On the right side of the space was the restaurant area with mostly benches and booths for seating. There was another bar on that side and a semi-circular ladderwell leading up to a small second floor. The brewhouse was off to the extreme right with a couple of wood-clad SVs behind the secondary bar. A private dining area to the left of the secondary bar fronted the FVs. Mug Club mugs hung from every horizontal plane. It reminded me of a 1980's sports bar, ala Sam's Saloon, but making their own beer, like in Windsor, Ontario. At least I got to watch some of the NYY/Bucs game while we visited. Est. 1989.

Beers: J's Hoppy Light Ale; Sarasota Gold; Sequoia Amber Lager; Midnight Pass Porter; Sunset Red; Maibock. The H. L. A. was the best of the lot - plenty hoppy for me. The rest were too sweet for my liking.

Old Prague Pilsner was out-5.0.

Mom Test: Nah. Too dark. Too bar-like. Nothing but sports on the monitors. That's not a good combo.

After visiting friends in Venice, we decided to take 72/70 back to the other coast again and stop by. We first couldn't find the place. SBC is a brewpub with character IMO.
We had two sandwiches and liked our food! Definatly a good choice before a 4hr drive and would stop again at any point. Could have a few less TVs maybe or at least take the stacks of Bud Light out of the bar. I was actually quite surprised to see so many BMC beers there. Good selection of their own and also some guest taps, i.e. Lagunitas IPA.
Before we left, I glanced into their brew kitchen and immediately a waiter came over and asked if I would like to go inside and look around - of course. Got a small quick tour. Definatly a very friendly place

This was an early in the day type visit when checking out the SBC in Sarasota. Kind of an old school beach area near Siesta key. Reminded me slightly of San Diego PB/MB area which is real cool.

First thing I noticed was just how friendly the locals are at this place. Right away--these people are all very talkative with me which I thought was overboard at first but its just simply the atmosphere of the place. As long as you dont act like a complete nut--they treat you like one of their own.

I got a sampler of the beer--decent and fresh and clean. I was driving so I couldnt have anything too strong but the macro-ish one they had I got a pint or 2 of that--it was quite decent. The wings were very good and the sandwiches were only average or slightly above.

The bartender was excellent and made you feel very much at home in a relaxing vacation spot.

I stopped in while visiting Sarasota with my family.

The atmosphere is decent with a medium sized, L shaped bar on one side and tables on the other. They have plenty of TVs with sports on. The decor includes sports banners and member beer mugs.

They had six on tap including an IPA, a golden ale, an amber lager, a red, a porter and a winter special Flemish farmhouse ale. I had the IPA and it was good but not outstanding. They also have BMC bottles and liquor as well.

Sarasota Brewing Co is a decent neighborhood brewpub and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Had the sampler of six brews. Four were above average and two were average brews. Had two other local and macro brews and was pleased with the selection. Mug club with large mug and appears to be the standard with the crowd. Wing selection was large and spicy and the salads are good portions and fresh.

Worth the visit and will try again in the fall.

It's been awhile since I've been here, and years since I ate here.

My wife and I took some old friends to the Brewing Co. when they were visiting from Virginia.

A big positive about this place is it's smoke-free. Other beer bars in town allow people to smoke. Since this is a restaurant, Florida law requires them to ban that nasty habit.

We forgot that it was the NCAA men's basketball tournament when we arrived about 6 on a Saturday evening. This is a sports pub, with many, many TVs. We had to wait at least an hour for a game to end. Once it was over, the fans streamed out and we got a table. There were still games going on and a nearby table of four obnoxious fans (of two schools) kept screaming thoughout our meal.

Our waitress was busy, but did a decent job, considering.

I was very impressed by their IPA, which is the best beer I've had at the brewing company: Nice and hoppy and bitter.

All of us enjoyed our food, which is pretty typical brewpub fare: burgers (cooked to order), barbecue ribs, and grouper sandwiches. My blackened grouper sandwich was good. A standout are their sweet potato french fries. Make sure you order them instead of regular fries with your meal.

The value is always good. All six of us ate, with four beers (we're not all drinkers) for about $90.

If you're looking for fresh beer in Sarasota, this is the only place to go, and it's worth a visit.

Went here the Friday of spring break, after bumbling around Sarasota for some time looking for it. Little brewpub in a small strip mall a short ways off the main drag in south Sarasota. The brewpub itself was typical enough - very Floridaesque, with a prominent maritime theme (lots of rustic, worn timber, pictures of fish, rope, Corona-bottle salt and pepper shakers ... very Jimmy Buffet), a few full-length bars, tons of TVs, and plenty of tables/booths, nooks, crannies, and backrooms to hide away in. I wasn't really there for the food, although I did partake in some beer cheese soup, which was pretty standard. However, the menu looked pretty decent, with a lot of standard pub fare, much of it with a Florida twist.

Service was good, waitress was knowledgeable about the beer, and had plenty of comments about them. They had seven beers on draught when I went (which I will individually review in the beer section). The selection pretty much ran the gamut, from a light all the way up to (ironically) a wee heavy. The value was great, for what you get - $3.50 pints, happy hour discounts, and the food was pretty cheap. I'd recommend checking it out, definitely.

I've been visiting BrewCo for years now so many years that I can remember when it was a much cooler place called the Gingerbread Man. I like to get the negatives out of the way first.

There is a weird odor in the bar area that indicates it is time to clean the carpet! Though I'd rather sit and smell that than be stuck in the back room near the bathrooms. This is what I imagine a sports bar out West would look like. Polished light wood, pennants everywhere, and a TV in every corner, nook, and cranny. Still it is better than many places in this area.

The only beer I enjoyed was the porter. They were out of the Honeymead and everything else was lacking in body (but I'll save that for the actual beer review).

There aren't many beers brewed here hence the 3.0 for selection. They have a few beers from others but nothing special.

The food averaged okay. The salad was a terrible combination of fruits and vegetables, but the burger was fantastic. Fries were okay, but onion strings were incredible and not greasy.

It is worth a visit to try their brews, but I wouldn't stick around.

This place could pass itself off as just another neighborhood bar. It seems well worn. The three beers I had were slightly better than average... nothing outstanding in my opinion.

The food was pretty good and seemed to be of good value. Selection was pretty good. I had a roastbeef sandwich with au jus. My cousin had jalapeno poppers and a salad.

Service was prompt... but with little enthusiasm.

The SBC is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening if your looking for some good brew and a laid back atmosphere. The food is good now, but a couple of years ago before they revamped the menu it was even better. They actually used to have buffalo and ostrich burgers, among other things, like their cheese logs.

The service is hit or miss. On most of the occasions when I've been their it has been pretty good.

The beers are very well made and they should have something for pretty much anybody. My personal favorite was the Skyway Fog Hefe weizen, but it hasn't been around in a while. They rotate quite a few brews.

As far as value the prices are very reasonable.

Lastly, Try the beer sampler for $3.95. A great way to sample 2oz of all the beers they have brewed at the time.

We visited The Sarasota Brewing Co. last night. I've read about this brewpub both from BA.com and also local papers raving about their local brews. We walked in and immediately were greeted by our server/bartender. He immediately saw that we were interested in the beer because he saw us look at the brew kettles in the side bar area below the very cool balcony with a old-fashioned spiral firehouse stairs. They had 8 brews on tap and available; Cobra Light and for Heat Heads they add jalepenos juice to it and call it a Florida Rattlesnake, Sequoia Amber Lager, Midnight Pass Porter, J's Hoppy/Bitter Light Ale, Moonlight MaiBok, Blue Marlin Marzen, and Ya Mills Honeymeade Ale. Between the three of us everyone got to try everything. My personal favorites of the night was the Porter and Marzen. Other favorites of the table were the Honeymeade and Sequoia Amber (which wins numerous local/regional brew contests.)

The Porter had some nice roasted caramel notes with a slight dry hop at the end, very light mouthfeel and a dash of smokiness.

Our server couldn't wait to tell us about the Brewing partners, 35$ a year gets you your own one liter ceramic mug personalized and a full liters any time you come in, for only $4.50.

We just had some snacks and soup; the soup de jour was Chessy Cauliflower and was very chessy with huge chunks of cauliflower in it and also we got stuffed jalepenos. These were excellent hand stuffed, hand breaded, and deepfried. The only bad thing was the quantity, 5 for $5.50.

Overall very nice brewpub, nice relaxing atmosphere, and excellent service. I was told a German Pilsner and Nut Brown were brewing in the kettle. I will be back for the Nut Brown. Also the dozen bars/grill/pubs in a 3 block radius makes for a very nice pub crawl, it's better than going to Siesta Key and fighting off the yuppies. Also the sign reads of the back of the front door "If their isn't beer in heaven, I don't want to go"

In a place like Sarasota it seemed like things were a bit on the high end price-wise, this place was great for the money.

I stopped in while on visiting the Gold Coast for spring training baseball (go twins). I would agree with some others who said this place was a bit tough to locate, but it was quite a nice find.

I enjoyed the dark bar atmosphere, it was a little too sports-bar for a brewpub... but i liked that i could watch the NCAA tourney on the big screen.

The brew here was tasty, if unremarkable... It's nowhere near the Minneapolis Town Hall (my favorite brewpub) but it's quite a bit better than the standard offerings.

Not a ton of beers on tap, but more than one or two token brews...

The food was much better than many beerbars and brewpubs. I enjoyed the pastrami sandwich, and the portions were excellent for the price and location. All in all, if you're in Sarasota, it's worth the visit.

Made the trip down from St Pete last Saturday night, and was pleasantly surprised. The place was fairly full but we got a table for the four of us immediately. The server was right there immediately and we had some quality beers in-hand right away. They only had 4 of their beers that night, so I elected to skip the lighter ones and got the porter, and the English IPA. Both were very good. The porter had a good flavor, and was very drinkable without being heavy, or having any unpleasant notes. The IPA seemed to be more of an amber ale, but had a nice hoppiness. I almost didn't think it was an IPA, but that is what they called it. They were both very very good. Between the four of us we had everything from ribs to bratwurst, to a rueben sandwich. All were tasty with the only comment being that the brat was only about the length of a small hotdog, and place in an equally small bun. Much less than I expected, but tasty.

Everyone was happy that we made the nearly 1 hour drive down there for the beer. I'd definitely suggest a visit when in the area, and as someone else said, this block had more than 3 other places within walking/spitting distance. I'll be back when in the area.

Nice enough atmosphere. Sports bar-ish and the setting is fairly intimate, but the crowd definitely seems on the older side so no boisterous crowds I’d imagine. Beer isn’t great, but it’s solidly average with some brews sliding into good territory. The food is so/so...though they make some pretty damn impressive from scratch blue cheese dressing...we actually inquired after the brand so we could buy some.

I'd like to see some more adventerous styles from them the way TBBC does, but they seem to have a heavy sports bar-BMC crowd and I guess those styles don't go over well.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in Sarasota and I saw about THREE Irish Pubs ALL in walking distance so it seems to be a great pub crawl area.

The location of the place is is kind of funky; it's in a strip with some other Irish pubs, right next to a residential area and a mall. I was with Bud Light drinkers (kin), so I was the only one sampling the house brews. Now I regret not taking written notes. The pub had six beers available. The J's Bitter was my first, and was very good. I had three others, one red ale, one porter, and one lager (Cobra Light, I think). The beer was enjoyable, and the sandwiches were terrific.

Despite the name, this is a sports bar. The only real difference is they make their own beer on premises. The standards are middle-of-the-road in quality, probably toned down from what the brewmaster, Vince, would like to put out just to please the less refined tastes of the average patron. Having frequented this establishment since the had a 2nd location in Bradenton (no longer around sadly), I can say the brews are very consistent in their quality, color and taste. The seasonal brews are where the brewmasters' art shows. The summer & winter beers are quite good, especially compared to the year round styles. The exception to the less impressive, year-round brews is the porter. A consistently good, dark brown, almost black beer that compares to Anchor Porter or Stoney Creek Brewing's Vanilla Porter.
The food is nothing special, standard sports bar fare that you can get anywhere else. Service is good, not outstanding.
The look is like a Swiss chalet, with hundreds of personal steins hanging from hooks all over the ceiling. A nice, comfortable, family-friendly place. TV's of various sizes dominate throughout, and a visit during football season especially is going to be noisy.

I visited the Sarasota Brewing Company on a recent Friday and found it to have an enjoyable atmosphere, friendly staff, and pretty good beer brewed on premise (It is the only bar in Sarasota that brews their own to my knowledge).

They have all the Satellite sports packages and six self-brewed beers on tap. I thoroughly enjoyed the pilsner and their "fabulous fries."

The SBC is not at the same level as the Tampa Bay Brewing Company (the best brewpub in this part of the state in my opinion) but it's a great stop for beer lovers who find themselves in Sarasota and want a good brew in welcoming surroundings. I recommend it!
