AKA Jesus Juice. Yes, this is the IPA that BA Jackson helped to brew. And now it's on cask, with a different dry-hopped addition, every Friday starting at 4 PM. Reviewing both the first (Ahtanum) and seond (Amarillo) casks.

Pours a cloudy amber with a whiteish head that just lasts and lasts. Later pints drop brighter as the yeast settles. Hold on. Rachael Ray's on Food Network... sigh... OK, back to the review. The aroma just totally kicks butt. Hops just blossom and envelope your nose in a deep, passionate hop kiss. The Ahtanum cask was like falling into a pile of hop cones, while today's Amarillo was like smelling a juicy ripe red grapefruit studded with pine sprigs. Amazing.

The flavor does a fine job of living up to the hops' promise. Maris Otter malt is in here and it shows - that soft, sweet maltiness comes through to balance the hoppiness SO well. The bitterness is sharp, no question, but well balanced. Flavors of apricot and peach come through, along with a hint of caramel and maybe a passing note of toastiness. Carbonation varied - the Ahtanum cask was slightly more carbonated than the Amarillo, but in both cases the mouthfeel was silky smooth, as a cask should be. I stayed for one but could have had six.

If you are in the area, stop by on a Friday afternoon and try this beer. George has made some wonderful beers before, but this one is special. Plus, for every pint sold, the brewery's donating a dollar to the upkeep of the Halfmoon, a floating museum which is also a replica of Henry Hudson's ship. Very cool. A good beer for a good cause - how can you go wrong?

Saw a post on their facebook page that they dusted off the beer engine. I had to make it down for this.

A: Nice clear copper color with a hald finger of a a perfect white cask head. Individual bubbles be be discerned. Nice.

S: Hops. Hops and more hops. Really great nose. Mostly citrus with a litttle bit of pine thrown in for good measure. Smelled like there might have been a little bit of dry hopping going on.

T: Really nice. Well balanced. In addition to the normal hop goodness I got a little bit of orange which I have only ever tasted in a few IPAs. The bitterness was there but the malt just made it work. No lingering bitterness in the finish just the citrus.

M: Perfect cask mouthfeel. Delicate carbonation.

D: I had two pints and I would have had more. I hope they make this a regular fixture. Excellent beer.
