On tap at the brewpub today. Nitro pour. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a black color with a nice level two finger off white to creamy colored head that dissipated at a nice pace. Moderate stringy lace. The aroma blended well between the roasted coffee beans and the chocolate malts. Just a touch of sweetness to roll in underneath. Then sweet oats, and then some vanilla. The flavor leaned to the roasty side first. And then some of the sweet oats and vanilla slide in to accompany a balanced taste. Smooth roasty sweet aftertaste. Quick wet roasty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Nitro basically smoothed out the roast so well that I almost thought I wasn’t even drinking a beer. Made Guinness feel rough. Overall, probably one of the smoothest oatmeal stouts I ever had. If I lived closer to Albany, I would definitely have this during every Winter visit.

A-Very dark, creamy head that leaves behind lacing
S-Roasted malt and coffee.
T-Coffee, roasted malt. However the finish is bland.
M-Heavy and creamy.
D-Of Albany's local breweries this Oatmeal Stout is better than Browns. An easy drinker for a stout.

A - Served a deep black color with just a touch of brown and creamy frothy finger of tan head. Very nice retention on the head and nice lacing left behind.
S - Aroma is full of deep roasted caramel malts and a bit of coffee. There is also some oats, lactate, and even some hops mixed in as well.
T - Starts off with some building roasted caramel malt flavor. There is some background milk sweetness and a hint of coffee flavor. Through the middle, some oat and subtle hop flavors come through. Finish is full of roasted flavors with some caramel malts and some milk sweetness lingering.
M - Medium bodied and moderate-low carbonation. Super smooth and a bit creamy. Finished fairly dry and feels very refreshing.
D - Very drinkable. Nice balanced flavors. The hop mixed in is a really nice touch for an oatmeal stout. Good blend of malt and sweetness and a nice finish.

Draft at the brewpub. A coffee story. Black with some white foam head. Particularly low mouthfeel for a stout. Not too bad, despite astringency derived from coffee and coffee grounds. Good roast in aroma and taste. Served too cold. After half an hour, there was not improvement.

On tap at the brewery this beer was a completely opaque, pitch black color with one finger of tan head. The retention was decent and the lacing spotty. The aroma was of roasted malt, coffee, tobacco, a hint of floral hops. The flavors, however, were a little flat. Oatmeal, baking cocoa, light coffee, roasted malt and a bitter hops finish were all present but each element was watered down. The mouthfeel too was a bit watery though smooth enough, the body medium/full and the carbonation on the low side. A sessionable oatmeal stout but also a forgettable one.

Served on tap at the brewpub.
A: Dark body with a bit of off-white head. Low carbonation means the head fell quickly leaving an inky body but with low visible viscosity.
S: Great roasty aroma. There are some lighter caramel notes also. Classic oatmeal stout aroma but for this particular beer, probably it's weakest point. It could be a bit stronger.
T: I've had some creamy stouts before but this one is top 5...maybe top 2. Perfect balance between caramel sweetness and roastines.
M: The flavor is great but the mouthfeel is the best aspect. So smooth and creamy but surprisingly light bodied for the flavor. Good beer for a cold rainy day.
D: Another example of an outstanding pump station beer.
