First had: on tap at Dunedin's brewpub

This was probably my favorite brew from Dunedin. Very well-done, and I'm typically pretty picky about my coffee beers. And my brown ales for that matter. Reading other reviews, I have to believe that they have improved on the recipe lately.

Poured a cloudy mahogany color, with a small, foamy, beige head; moderate retention and lacing. Nice aroma of smooth coffee and sweet malts, a bit of cocoa. The coffee was not at all overblown in the taste, which is good in my book, very smooth and melded with flavors of sweet cream, vanilla, hazelnut, and a touch of dried fruits and cocoa powder. Well done. Body was medium, mouthfeel was smooth and creamy for a brown ale. Very good overall, and definitely something I'd revisit.

On-tap at Dunedin Brewery. Served on a Pint glass.

A: almost black in color with a one finger tanned head that remained there for a while. Some lacing present.

S: very strong coffee aroma, this beer definitely does a good job in honoring its name. Milk chocolate also present in the smell, which is very nice and a good change of pace since most beers in this (or similar) style usually tend to have a dark chocolate aroma.

T: is this a beer or coffee? More like the latter, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on what you're looking for exactly. Expect a very heavy and concentrated coffee flavor at the beginning, followed by sweet milk chocolate tones in the middle and a bitter coffee finish and aftertaste.

M: medium body with low to medium carbonation. A bit on the smooth side.

O: I enjoyed this beer for what it was, but I can see some people having issues with the strong coffee presence throughout it. In my opinion, a quality product by the folks at Dunedin Brewery.

On-tap at the brewpub. Poured a nice clear brown with a nice generous heading. The aroma to this is awesome. Lots of coffee and roasted malt with a touch of chocolate. The taste however is a bit muted I would have expected with the big nose like this it would deliver, but not so much. Decent medium body with a sweeter, watery mouthfeel. A decent beer but nothing worth rushing to the pub for.Nice change of pace for coffee lovers.

Draft at Dunedin.

Poured clear brown color with an average fizy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark chocolate and roasted coffee aroma. Medium to full body and a smooth texture. Medium to heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration.

This is the best of the sampled brews.

Coffee flavored beer. Three fingers of light brown head over a clear dark brown liquid (orangish highlights). Smells potent dry coffee, like dried out coffee lacking richenss of some roast. Touch of chcolate and some cream.

Tastes dary overall with a presnce of malt sweet that's underneath throughout. Coffee is primary flavor bit a bit of oxidation to boot. With searching, I get some chocoalte and nuts. Finish is a bit acidic from over-cooked coffee in the pot. Just a bit too bitter piercing. Drying woody finish doesn't work to keep sweet around to fight the coffee bitter. Md body and heavy carbonation. Not so good.
