really interesting beer, earthiness, cherries, some funk, a bit boozy and over carbonated, a little more balance and touch and this beer is phenomenal. I enjoyed it for sure, the flavors are there, just needs some minor tweaks.

A - A mammoth five finger's worth of audibly fizzy very active head that is equal parts dirty khaki and rose in terms of color... The head quickly fizzes away before showing modest retention at two fingers... Once the head ultimately fades there is a veil rich slightly veil of lacing... The color is an intriguing mix of light muddy brown and a faint ruby red... A modest bit of quickly paced carbonation rises throughout...

S - A very interesting aroma... Candied apples... Fresh cut grass... Some floral notes... A hint of brown sugar... A mix of over ripened fruit... Wonderful depth and complexity as each individual component compliments the others exquisitely...

T - The flavors that materialize on the palate our not what I expected based on the nose... A grainy alcohol presence permeates... A definite funk presence emerges next... A hint of bananas... Some burnt sugars... There is a slight medicinal presence as well... The flavor profile is not quite as well put together as the aroma...

M - Medium bodied... A bit sleek... A bit sticky... Dry throughout... A bit gritty on the finish...

D - A tale of two beers... Very nice appearance and aroma gives way to a slightly disappointing flavor profile and mouth feel... A few minor tweaks could make this one excellent, but in its current form it lacking in several areas...

Bought on recommendation of local publican. Sours are not my style but I really liked St. Somewhere's Lectio du Chene.

Other reviews of funk, diaper, and other weird smells make me suspicious of this one.

Had to take cage off with pliers because the twister broke off. Cork started coming out of its own accord. Careful! Cork says 2013, and we are tasting in April of 2014.

Smells of tart apples, tart fruit -- not rotten, and only a hint of funk. Big head subsides fairly quickly. Color is as red as brown, and fairly clear, maybe a little cloudy.

First sip is bright, quickly turning astringent, with a long earthy finish. Next sips reveal more of the belgian "dubbel" character, but the dryness is still primary. Funkier on the tongue (in the finish) than in the nose.

Even later tastes are more malty, round, complex in the mouth, but the finish always reveals the drying character of the brett, which I don't like so well.

Not as good as Lectio in my book, though I admit this isn't my favorite style.

a fusion of styles i have not encountered before, a saison and a dubbel, and it does indeed have elements of each, although the saison funk trumps the sweeter darker malt a la dubbel. rather clear on the first pour, but gets cloudy as the bottle works down. tall off white airy lasting head. smells curious, rotten apples and saison yeast over a much richer and sweeter malt bill, raisins too. the flavor is less dominating than the nose, things are subtle here, with a definitely bigger grain bill, some sweetness but not a ton, it comes back after the swallow like some richer red wines, but is still moved forward primarily by its yeast, an interesting strain somewhere between saison and bretty, its funky enough to fit both profiles, but hangs on to the fruitiness just long enough to lean to saison. a strange beer, apples at the end too, red over ripe ones. i like it not because of its flavor specifically, but because of how different it is. well carbonated and a dry at first, then long and sweet finish that perplexes me. first from saint somewhere already has me desperate for more.

Bottle as a Christmas present from Florida. From notes.

A - Light brown or copperish colour. Hazy with a touch of cloud. Two fingers of fluffy off white head and mild carbonation. Spotty lace and a film of retention. Became in sanely cloudy with the yeast added.

S - Orange, a little funk, burnt sugar, caramel malts, earthy.

T - Nice flavour. Some mild hop, darkness of it shines with breadiness, some dark malts, and some faint funk.

M - Good carbonation, medium to full body, and a slightly funky finish.

O/D - Not a bad saison. The darkness and added malt depth were cool. Don't think I could tolerate the whole bottle, but it was definitely interesting. Hid the alcohol well, but in the end, it wasn't mind blowing.
