2015 vintage

Pours slightly hazy golden yellow on the first pour, cloudy near the end, with a creamy frothy white foam head with decent retention. Up to the glass right away big fresh coffee beans stick out, smells like fresh acidic coffee, fresh coffee bean fruits, a little green bell peppery and vegetal, then some floral saison farmhouse notes, some fruity esters make their way through with mild hints of banana, apricot, a touch of leathery funk, phenolic spice, some pale bready malts, vanilla, wildflowers, and earthy floral herbal hops. Taste is a bit acidic, dry, refreshing, yeasty, with prominent whole bean coffee, acidic coffee fruits, a little vegetal green bell pepper, hints of banana, apple, apricot, phenolic black peppery spice, a touch of leather, farmhouse notes, pale bready crackery malts, hint of vanilla, wildflowers, and earthy herbal floral hops. Feels medium lighter bodied, creamy smooth and airy with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice farmhouse ale brewed with whole bean coffee.

In Tarpon Springs at their bar. From a bottle-the bartender (Caroline-yes the namesake) said the brewer claims its better out of a bottle. Complex saison with notes of coffee. 5% abv. Complex flavor but still light and refreshing. Highly recommend this beer and the bar.

these dudes really have my attention right now. all of the beer they are making has been awesome, and really different, especially on the yeast side of things. this is another interesting brew, a really light and delicate saison brewed with coffee beans, what a remarkable result! pale yellow and hazy in color, this beer does not look at all like it has coffee in it. the aroma is funky saison yeast, short of wild, but very different, and sweet fruit notes, banana even, white grape, apricot, and then the coffee, which is light but distinct, and definitely has a brewed quality about it, roasty and even smokey in the nose. the flavor grows and grows on me from the first sip, starting out a little odd with the coffee over the pale almost soapy wheat malt, but i start to pick up chocolate and black tea notes from it, the yeast dries everything out but the coffee, so it really comes through. hints of brown sugar and maple, smooth earthy roast, and a slight staleness that i actually kind of like. some fluffy body for such a light beer, no acidity at all from the whole coffee, and awesome carbonation. i was at first puzzled by this beer, but grew to really love it by the time the bottle was running out. this is one of the best beers i have had from these guys, really something different, even in the saison world. great beer overall!

Appearance: Clear, somewhat pale, gold in color. I have just discovered that the wide mouth of my otherwise awesome growler (a gift from my perceptive and thoughtful sister) didn’t let me generate much of a head with the first pour, but what head there was dissipated pretty quickly, leaving spotty lacing.

Smell: A surprisingly strong tart fruit smell is quickly joined by an earthy funk and the anticipated coffee notes. It’s definitely unusual, and definitely intriguing.

Taste: The taste plays out pretty much the same as the smell. It starts tart, then the funk comes, along with white pepper, cloves and coriander. The coffee becomes more apparent as the beer warms, and it’s a complicated addition to evaluate. On one hand, who doesn’t love coffee? On the other, it seems not to mesh so well with the traditional saison flavors, in contrast to more natural pairings such as the roasted flavors inherent in a stout. It’s far from a disaster, but in my opinion it’s not a match made in heaven.

Mouthfeel: I like the mouthfeel a lot. Clean, crisp and spot on for a saison.

Drinkability: This beer might not be your first choice for a hot summer day, but it’s still pretty damn drinkable due to the well-done mouthfeel.

Appearance: The hazy amber liquid arrives with a small cap that leaves a few shards of lace behind

Smell: Band aid funk with tart fruit and coffee tones

Taste: Funky and fruity, up front, with tart fruit adding another dimension in the middle; the coffee elements appear in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: It takes a while to pick up the coffee (the beer has to warm first) but there is an add combination of flavors here that just don't work very well, even after the coffee is more easily discernable

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Pretty sure this is called Caroline with an (e) at the end. Big white, fluffy head, high retention on a hazy golden body, soapy lacing. Aroma includes coffee (odd coming from a light colored beer), some musty funk and some white pepper notes. Taste includes some tart apple, some persimmon, some other blend of tart tropical fruits and some coffee in the aftertaste. Delicious, unique, bizarre and beautiful mix of flavors.

Draft at The Boilermaker in Philadelphia, PA.

Pours a very cloudy, golden orange color with a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lace left behind.

Odd aroma with a nutty coffee presence that clashes with the earthy farmhouse yeast.  Zesty, peppery spices with some bready yeast and light fruit notes. Thankfully coffee isn't too strong but it's there with a subtle roasty generic coffee character. Weird.

Medium bodied but fuller than expected with an odd combo of saison and coffee flavors.  Coffee flavor is subtle and doesn't come until the finish but lingers long and dry.  Lots of earthy spice, clove, pepper and coriander followed by bready yeast.  Almost has a hefe flavor with some banana as well.  Decent amount of farmhouse funk but it's cut in the finish by the dry roasted coffee.  Really weird how the coffee comes in and cuts things off.  Strange combination that doesn't work particularly well.  Not terrible just weird with competing flavors.

This is another nice offering. Great funky, citric aromas, not alot of coffee favor but the beans can be picked up. Slightly sour and banyard flavors. Love the extreme fluffy head. Very cloudy and bold golden coloring. This is a world class saison from the saison experts.

Unknown ABV.

A: two finger thick bright white head on a cloudy pale yellow gold body. Nice lacing.

S: French cheese, yeast, lemon, clove and a little toasty.

T: very interesting. More French cheese which is strong in the finish. strong yeast character, very herbal, slight sweet lemon custard. Finish also has almost a mesquite smokiness to it.

M: light to medium body and high carbonation.

Overall: Very unique and challenging beer to understand. Lots of unfamiliar flavors. This one includes some of the elements that were in Vierge.
