I had been on a warming trend with Philadelphia Brewing Company lately, but this one set back our blossoming new relationship.
Pours hazy orange with a fizzy short lived head. Aroma is like a sharp perfume on an old lady's couch. Cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg. The flavor is like mulled cider, with a thin, unpleasant finish. This is not a good beer.

A: Hazy golden color with a thin white head that dissipates to nothing.
S: Grapefruit, spices- clove, coriander, ginger and white pepper.
T: Tart citrus, with a follow up of spicy white pepper, ginger and clove and a touch of coriander. Lightly roasted malt with a touch of honey. Hops add some earthy tones too.
M: Light body with prickly carbonation.
D: It is an interesting and tasty ale that is balanced well especially if you like spices. It works in this one but I would not drink it all night.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner - fridge - 2009
Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange/yellow with a 2" eggshell colored head. It shows great retention and leaves lots of foamy lace behind. No carbonation is visible.
Smell: floral aroma is excitingly fresh. Cherry blossom, honeysuckle, lily of the valley, orchid all overtake what little malt there is. Truly original.
Taste: More of the same floral attributes arrive with plenty of flavor. Orchid and honeysuckle are dominant flavors, with some vegetal hops. This beer really tastes like a flower and even the flower stems as well. Sweet pale malt and perhaps a little wheat remind you that this is still a beer. Original indeed.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, vegetal, very floral and tasty, lightly bodied, but still a little bit turbid. No apparent alcohol.
Drinkability: A very original beer with lots of interesting floral tones. This is an exceptional summer beer that isn't cloying. A new favorite of mine.

Thanks to Mike & Sarah for this one! 12oz brown glass bottle. Weird, long date code around bottom.
Pours very hazy, but bright orange tan in color with very thin white head. Nose is all about lemon grass, orange peels and hay. Palate has those same flavors but some spicy white and black pepper notes give it some gusto. Moderate finish.
Interesting and refreshing. I think this may be mis-categorized (currently BPA), probably more of a Wit beer.

Took a bottle from a mixed case bottled on July 21. The malt backbone is very similar to the bottle of PA Pale Ale with a toasted and nutty taste and aroma. There's a touch of juicy citrus in there too and the spices are fairly mild with touches of chamomile and lemongrass. The Belgian character comes largely from the spices, but it's not a bad brew.

A- Pale golden color with a very small head. Fades quickly leaving some lacing and a thin film.
S- Lemon, wet hay, spices, and a hint of lightly toasted malt. Similar to a Wit.
T- Light malt followed by lots of spices. Some cloves, but mainly ginger and lemongrass towards the finish.
M- Medium feel, almost creamy. Medium to high level of carbonation.
D/O- Seems like a spicy Wit to me. All in all, this isn't a bad beer. I could have a pint or two of this before the lemongrass and ginger in the finish caught up to me. Cheers.

A-Lightly hazed reddish golden yellow with a thick white head that reduced to a thin cap and left spotty lace.
S-Big ginger up front with a strong herbal medley backing this up. Touch of lemongrass zing and biscuit malt.
T-Sharp citric and ginger bite with sweet biscuit and a side helping of herbal hops, lemongrass zip and "spice".
M-Medium-light bodied quite sharp and crisp with long lingering flavours and a dry finish.
D-Very interesting brew. An odd mix of flavours but in the end it works. I like brews that take chances and in the end work out....well done PBC!

This was on tap at the grey lodge. Interesting to find a seasonal from these guys.
The beer pours a very cloudy golden color, with a quarter inch head that layed nicely. Slight carbonation.
The bouquet is quite unusual. While there are the typical yeasty notes, there is quite a bit of spice on the nose. Im getting cardamon, ginger and a hint of pepper. The end nose is some cold light lemon zest.
This translated well to the taste as it had quite a bit of spice that finished nicely with the zest. The ginger and pepper really come out.
The mouthfeel is good, as this beer looks heavier in body than it actually is. This is a very drinkable beer that is both social and refreshing. A decent first seasonal.

On tap at the South Philly Tap Room, served in a snifter
Appears a cloudy, golden color with a soapy bone white head that hugs the inside of the snifter nicely.
Lemongrass, white pepper, biscuity yeast, ginger. An array of spices with an earthy, springtime type of feel.
Mimics the nose for the most part. The lemongrass and biscuity yeast lead the way with white pepper and ginger breaking through on the back end. Simple, yet complex.
Medium body, good carbonation.
An easy drinker. Clean and easily sessionable.

This beer came a slightly hazy, peachy gold with a thin, egg shell head with a slow stream of bubbles rising up from the bottom.
Smells of GINGER and wild flowers. This really dominates. I only get hints of bready malts beneath.
Tastes of dry and subtle ginger with a dry hop edge for balance. This finishes up with more of a pickled ginger sweetness.
Feels nice and present, almosty creamy with a sneaky, subtle carbonation.
Odd for the style, but still tasty. A good one for the summer.

Had this in a variety pack from PBC last year and ended up picking up a whole case this year...
Poured from the bottle a hazy, golden yellow with a creamy 1/4 inch thick head and light efferevescence, that dissipated quickly to a thin ring and small lacing on the sides of the glass.
Smell is big whiff of ginger followed by some spices and mild malt. Very interesting.
Taste is big zing of ginger upfront and throughout, with hints of clove and spice and fruitiness. Tough to pinpoint everything. Finishes with a mild taste of light malt.
Mouthfeel is great on this beer, just enough carbonation to keep the flavors popping, especially on the sides of the tongue and cheek.
A very drinkable beer, but the flavors can be overpowering. Like this as a spring beer that can easily be continued through summer for those hotter days.

Pours a cloudy gold hue with a moderate bright, white head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lace. Yep, looks like your typical golden ale to me.
S: Ginger. Floral and herbal aromas as well. Pretty much it.
T: Flowers and ginger. That's all I get out of this one. I think they went a little overboard with the ginger in this beer. It dominates the flavor, leaving the drinker scratching his head. This one is sure to bore or overwhelm folks rather quickly.
M: Good, above average carbonation. Spicy finish, obviously due to the abundance of ginger. One of the slightly better aspects of this beer.
D: This one could be a quaffer, if the ginger aspect of the beer was lessened. It also suffers in regards to taste and drinkability because the ginger flavor dominates, not letting any other flavor or aspect of the beer come through. One dimensional, although, that wasn't the brewer's intention.

A 12 ounce bottle purchased to-go from the Craft Ale House for around $2. Poured into my nonic pint glass and after swirling up the yeast, appears a cloudy bright honey amber color with about an inch of off white foam. Smells and tastes of citrus fruits such as lemon and orange, mildly spicy yeast, lots of floral notes, and biscuits. A bit thin bodied with medium carbonation. I'm curious to find out the ABV of this one as it is quite sessionable.

12oz bottle served in shaker pint.
A: Two fingers of fluffy head from an aggressive pour. Retention is below average as the head quickly dwindles to a small cap. Beer is a hazy luminous golden yellow. Orange-ish in some lights.
S: Yeasty, clove-like scent up front. Juicy citrus and a little banana. Hints of solvent.
T: Orange marmalade. Just slightly tart. Yeasty and bready with some estery sweetness. Slight, but welcome hop bitterness in the finish. A bit spicy in the aftertaste.
M: Prickly carbonation leads to a rather full feel.
D: Not bad. I could see myself having a couple of these in a sitting.
This beer was better than expected. It is kind of a toss up as to what style this one falls under. Whatever the case it was interesting enough to hold my attention. Just about everthing I've had from this brewery has been solid, nothing more. Give it a try if you have the opportunity.

a: This was a slightly cloudy (unfiltered) golden yellow color. It poured with a short lived fizzy head.
s: What a strange smelling beer. I got a little something peppery, some ginger I think, a bit of something mustily floral, and a little burned plastic. These all tied together pretty well.
t: I've used the word floral often to describe how a beer tastes. I'll use it here and I've never meant it more. This tastes like what I imagine ground up petals tastes like. There are suggestions of other spices, I tasted cola and maybe a little clove. There is some not unpleasant burned plastic at the end.
m: Fizzy, soda like carbonation. Very refreshing.
d: These guys have made two of the stranger brews I've tried. I liked this quite a bit and I can see myself having more, but I love the uniquely bizzare Rowhouse Red more.

My friend gave me this bottle and said he does not know if it is the worst beer he ever had
A:Hazy golden color with quite a bit of yeast floating in suspension. Poured with a little bit of white head that did not last long.
S: Flowers and spices. White pepper. One of those I don't know if I love or hate the smell of this beer for sure.
T: Fairly spicy. The flowery thing going on is interesting. Again I do not know if I love or hate this beer. Quite a bit of esters. A little bit of an off taste in the finish. Then it tastes like an all malt lager. Strange.
M: Super light body. Carbonation is a little bit less than I would like it to be.
D: I really do not know. It really is a love it or hate it kind of beer and I am somewhere in the middle.

thanks to janis for sharing this - poured chilled into a cervoise from the 12oz brown bottle.
the color is very hazed golden with a thick rocky white cap of about 3/4 inch. The bead is very fine and the lace adheres well with good head retention. The smell is very earthy, vegetal - like cooked peas. The smell is mildly spiced and toasted but the canned pea smell is strong. The feel has a nice roundness in the body with gentle malt upfront and spiced right after with a moderate amount of carbonation and light toasted element with a semi dry finish there is a mild amount of sweetness to soften the spice.
This pale tastes unique you can tell there is some kind of herbal flavor which upon reading the label informs you of the lemongrass and ginger additions. The lemongrass gives a vegetal flavor while the ginger comes off as lightly spicey in tandem with the belgian yeast. I enjoy the malt body and the alcohol is low in the flavor with a decent element of earthy dried grass with a mild accent of citrus and light toasted notes. I think overall this is a good beer, not great. I do enjoy the amount of spice as it doesn't stand out so much that it comes off as forceful or overdone. I like the base and could see this as a nice refreshing summer beverage.
