Poured from growler into Duvel tulip. Growler is at least 10 days old, which may lead to some insight on parts of this rating.

A: Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a very thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Makes sense given that this is an older growler and I'm happy there was still some carbonation left.

S: Lots of heavily roasted malts, brown sugar, and a faint meatiness. A good amount of smokiness.

T: The meaty notes I picked up on are completely gone (which I'm okay with) and are taken over by some very dark chocolate. Really nice.

M: Coats the tongue very well and is very smooth. Pretty viscous and wouldn't take much to push this over to a stout. Not a ton of carbonation again, but I think I like it better this way. Very easy to sip on, especially in cold weather.

O: I got this direct from the brewers themselves as a gift and couldn't be more pleased with it. After being impressed by their Super 8, I think I've found a new top 10 porter in this beer.

16 oz can

Pours dark and porter like, moderate dark khaki cap that leaves fine low sheeting

Light milk chocolate on the nose

More milk chocolate, some cafe au lait. Moderately burnt malts.

Smooth and fairly creamy

Dry and resiny hopped up finish

Well worth a try...better then decent porter

Their best beer, enjoyed on tap. Smoke, chocolate and bitter coffee. So some complexity. Tad of head. Woody at room temperature. Medium mouthfeel. Drying finish like an Irish stout. Maybe a different carbonation would mnake a difference, as it was well astringent.

Poured a deep black hue with a two finger foamy caramel head. There was good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a robust burnt grain with a nice smokiness. Good coffee and dark chocolate elements as well.

The taste consisted of an upfront burnt grain and coffee. Some charcoal flavors were detected toward the finish.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style and very smooth. Good residual bitterness.

Overall a very good porter from this small local upstate brewery. Highly recommended.

L: Poured pitch black with a decent sized creamy brown head on top. The head is leaving a little bit of lacing on the glass. There's no light coming through the glass and nothing is visible on the inside.

S: Pretty standard in terms of porters: burnt/roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, hints of coffee and dark fruit. Overall, smells pretty nice.

T: On point with the aroma. There's a good amount of roastiness layered on top of some dark fruits (raisins and plums). Also finishes with nice bitter sweetness.

F: It's a little light-bodied for me personally as I expect beers that are this dark to lean on the thicker side, but it's okay. I would say this falls into the medium category as it pertains to body. Decent carbonation, but I would have enjoyed a slightly thicker mouthfeel.

O: This is not bad. It is probably one of my favorites that I have had from Chatham. There are some really good flavors going on in terms of dark roasted malts, dark fruits, and some sweetness.

Wow was this good, I'd been looking forward to trying their beers. Had this one on tap at Peint o Gwrw in Chatham (great place btw)

A - Very dark and hazy. A slight reddish tint around the very top ridge. The head was a nice caramel brown that stayed put and laced the glass nicely. Very appealing look

S - Nothing out of the ordinary here, roasty and malty with the hops hiding in the background.

T - Roasted coffee, chocolate, with a slight caramel sweetness. The bitterness that follows it up is distinctly hoppy and cleans the palate nicely. None of that astringent aftertaste that you get with porters sometimes. One of the best porters i've tried

M - Pretty much spot on, not too thick or stouty and not too watery either

D - Not sure how many I could drink just because the darkies aren't my go to, but this one was particularly drinkable and I'm probably going back down that way tomorrow for a growler.

Support local breweries! Especially when they make beer this good :P

I have been looking to try this brew from Chatham for a while now and was happy to see it on tap at Mahar's. The brew had a nice dark color to it, guess it was blacker than deep brown with a thick tightly packed head that had very good retention, which also left a great amount of lacing down the side of the glass. Very nice aromas coming out, deep roasted grains with a slight burnt character, which leads to a slight smokiness with chocolate, coffee and a slight hop scent mixed in. This brew is excellent with the grain characteristics giving a robust burnt and smoky flavor up front with the same coffee and chocolate that was identified in the aroma. The feel of this brew is also very good, nice creamy texture and smooth going down. This is a very easy drinking brew and one that I hope in the future I can get my hands on more often.
