The beer is a darker golden color with a soapy head. There is good carbonation coming up and a thick haze to the beer. The beer did not have a strong smell to it. I do get a aroma of orange juice. The orange juice flavor comes out with a hint of sweetness in the taste and there is a bitterness but nothing really stands out. The beer has a nice feel to it, a long flavor, but one again it is all very slight.

This beer seems to get some bad reviews, but I think there are far worse out there. I will admit, I drank this beer at the end of a long, hot, day, and we were in a remote area with limited beer selection. That's when many beers taste better than they normally do because you are just glad you have a beer at that point. Also in its defense, I think it's difficult to brew a consistent beer using certified organic ingredients, so maybe some batches are better than others? It's a malty, earthy, resinous IPA with some character. Solid enough. Not necessarily a beer I'd recommend, but if your in the middle of nowhere on a hot day, it will be just fine!

Tasted in a snifter from a 12 oz bottle on March 29, 2017. Look is orange amber with a thick head and sticky lacing. Smell and taste is citrus and floral with lightly sweet malt. Feel is crisp with medium bitterness.

Look is a clear apple juice amber with a thin, bordering on nonexistent, head.
Smell is fruity and thin. It's a bottle from Costco so I can't say I'm optimistic about the freshness and I do recall pints at the tasting room having a bit more character in the nose but it is definitely sweet malty heavy without much characteristic bitter hoppiness.
Taste is again malt dominated, there is a decent amount of bitterness and a sort of yeasty funk. almost cidery.
Feel is decent, not full but with some body. Living in Humboldt this is definitely a regular resident of my fridge and it hurts me somewhat to expose it to the full light of the critical day. I do love Eel River and they definitely have some good IPA type beers but unfortunately this is a very mediocre IPA, especially in the crowded field up here in the Pacific Northwest. Try their porter, their stout, their emerald triangle and the session version, and any of their one offs if you make it to the tap room. But don't come to this IPA if you're looking for a star in the field, a great Costco buy at a dollar a bottle but nothing to write home about.

Comes in substantially darker than most ipas you come across. Drops of that caramel, crystal and brown malt traces. Aroma has some citrus, grapefruit, milder pine, more malt.

Taste is big time malt driven ipa, English in style halfway I would say. Heavy earth and malt notes. No bottle dating. If you like your ipa lacking hop mouthfeel, but still giving bitterness and lots of caramel malt tones, this is your bag.

Pours a golden orange color with a really nice head and excellent lacing. Aroma and taste are of sweet orange peel, some sweet Hawaiian bread, and a hint of herbal hops. Mouthfeel is crisp but sticky. A nice malt-forward English India pale ale.

Eel River Brewing Company IPA- 7.2% abv.

A: light red brownish, with soapy white head that sticks around.

S: cracked light roast grain, sugar, pine, orange juice, alcohol.

T: very good. Full malt body, zesty sweet hops with a little pine and a little passion fruit and a little orange peel.

M: chewy, juicy, a bit of bitterness on roof of mouth.

O: A very tasty malt forward easy to drink IPA. Eel river is still one of my all time favorite breweries. 4.75/5. I agree with user StonedTrippin that this beer is brutally underrated here.
