Bottle generously tossed my way from Taylor, cheers bro. Enjoyed from a bell's tulip.

a - brew poured classic transparent orange with a huge frothy white creamy head. Some visible carbonation could be seen. Sticky lacing.

s - nice balanced malts and a medley of hops. Really nice, some citrus and stickiness, but lots of sweet candied hops.

t - a bit more malt forward than the nose suggest, but the bouquet of hops is there. Finishes a bit bitter, but not piny and sticky.

m - nice balanced carbonation, finishes bitter.

o - overall a nice ipa but malt forward. The hops are there, but seems far from a west coast IPA as billed. Not bad by any means, but in a style all about hops this ones falls deeply into the good not great category.

Bottling date of 05/13/14

Appearance - Pours relatively clear and golden in color with an eggshell white finger width head. Good retention, resulting in a broken layer of surface suds. Lacing is fair with decent stick.

Smell - Beautiful aroma; a bouquet of citrus with orange at the forefront, while notes of grapefruit, pine and pineapple sit beneath. A touch of breadiness comes into play as the brew warms.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange peel bitterness upfront, along with moderate pine and grapefruit with a trace of pineapple bite. Malts come through lightly once the brew warms, hinting at bready qualities. Light pepper spice. Finishes with some dankness and a lingering citrus pith bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair carbonation. Goes down easy enough.

Overall - A great IPA, bordering on excellent. A little more balance would be nice, but hey, it's an IPA, so it falls well within the boundaries. Personally, could do without some of the dank, but it's not too much that it kills it for me.

Off the tap with one finger of head on a straw colored body.
The aroma is all pine. Simple but nice.
The taste is moderate bitter from pine and lemon. Straight forward but good.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Overall a solid IPA, though not amazing.

This is one of the finest single IPAs I have tasted. Despite a lower IBU rating, 75 vs 95, its aroma and aftertaste is similar to Green Flash West Coast IPA, except with citrus hints of lime instead of grapefruit. Gold Digger IPA is not as smooth as Stone IPA or Ballast Point Sculpin, but it has more character, in fact as much as many double IPAs.

I don't see how an IPA could be any better, just different. I prefer this bold style to the smoother ones, anyway. Color is light amber/orange, not exceptional, but all other characteristics are tops. Mouthfeel is particularly intense, and Gold Digger's superb aftertaste (not a category) lingers a very long time.
