I had this on cask at Eli Cannon's in CT. It was dark orange red color with almost no head (and no real signs of carbonation). The aroma was fantastic, like fresh baked bread. Honestly it smelled like a Wonder bread factory which used to bake next to a University I attended. Real nice. The flavor was bready and yeasty, a little toasted malt, possibly a hint of fruitcake. It went down really easily, no carbonation detected. A definitive cask ale, stunningly good.

One of my favorite English pale ales is back on tap at the Publick House. I stopped by on Sunday for my birthday hoping to get the maybock, but apparently they were out. Luckily they had this beer

A nice easy drinking sessionable beer. With good hop flavor and nice balance.

Drinkability is so high due to sub 5% abv and the fact that I'll gladly keep buying this beer every time I see it.

On cask for the first time ever in Vermont, the gentlemen from Southampton offered this one up at American Flatbread. My glass was given to me with an off-white head atop the amber/orange liquid. The retention, especially as a collar was moderate, eventually becoming a think skim that left good lacing. The aroma was of 'horse-blanket' mustiness from the malt, caramel malt and some light hops in the background. The flavors were well balanced, starting with a light note of citrus it then offered elements of wood, biscuity malt and caramel malt with an appealing bitterness from the hops. Well organized and quaffable. The mouthfeel was great, the carbonation delicate and the body medium/full. Though just a touch slick on my tongue, I otherwise found this to be one of the best they had on tap that night and very sessionable.

Pours hazy gold, bit of an orange tint. Fluffy (for cask) white head.

Nose is lightly sweet pale malts, hops come through lightly with a bit of citrus. Hard to grab on to.

Malt comes through as lightly sweet and a bit doughy, with a nice, firm, spicy, citrusy hop note. Finish is lightly bitter, with a bit of an odd corny aftertaste. May have been bad tap lines. Strange.

Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied, very mild carbonation, even for cask.

On tap. Supposedly 4 days fresh!

Poured a light to medium and clear orange color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, floral and a trace of spiciness. Tastes of citrus, caramel, and lightly spicy. Nice and hoppy. Glad I had a chance to try this one so fresh!

Growler filled at Whole Foods Bowery. They don't let you taste anything beforehand. From the tone of their collective voices, they all agree that it's ridiculous. When the feeding pens open up during lunch hour, they must have to say no to a dozen customers within the span of a commercial break. About how long it took me to finish this growler once I got into it. Well, at least a sped up replay of the Nets game due to time constraints. :P

Fifteen initial ounces pour into my pint-sized measuring glass. Near a half inch of eggshell foam, with a very average-looking body. Like a very watered down iced-tea.

Smell was all about biscuits, sourdough, & just a tinge of butter.

Besides a sprinkle of salt, the initial characteristics all mimic what I smelled. Sweet like white bread, more dusty flour then just straight up toasty, with a slightly bitter twang on the end. A taste of mineral water & dried up bread crust sticks to my tongue. Barely any hops, as even registering a little numbness on my palate took a few gulps. Honestly too bland to even be an English Pale. Not enough diacetyl in this serving. Mmm... diacetyl. :)

It feels a little runny. Carbonation is like half flat seltzer, but its sizzle is very apparent.

Ehh, I downed the 64, what else do you want from me? Stop being a nag.

On tap at Andy's for Southampton Promo Night 10/17/07. Served cold in the brwery's pint glass.

Appearance- Rich, deep copper... this beer supports a fluffy off-white head, remaining there for a good part of the tasting.

Smell- Wonderfully British in its nose, the soft biscuity aromas dance with the zippy, fragrant hops... my appetite is whet... this could be a long night!

Taste- Exactly as the nose would suggest, there's a phenomenally balanced biscuity, bread-like flavor that comes together with the English minerally character I'd expect from a Pale Ale. The finish just goes on and on, it's going down way too easily.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Easy and agreeable in the mouth, the carbonation is light but present enough. I swear I could drink this till the sun comes up tomorrow... unfortunately, after my first glass was empty, the tap was kicked. No growler fill this time, but I'll be calling Andy's in a few hours and doing whatever it takes to get this back in regular rotation.

Poured a medium copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a strong estery yeast and spicy hop. A good graininess came through as well.

The taste featured an upfront spicy hop and an estery yeast. A good toasty biscuit flavor rounded out the experience.

The moutfeel was on the average side with a residual spice.

Overall a pretty flavorful EPA and rather easy to drink.

This was the last beer I had while I was at Southampton Publick House and I wasn't impressed that much. It had a light/medium amber body with no head. The aroma had a smoky character to it with out much behind it. The flavor was reminiscent of a steam beer but with a burnt smoky flavor over the top of it. This was not a great beer.

This is a good, refreshing session ale, if that's what you're looking for, but I couldn't get excited about it. Solid but undistinctive. Nicely hopped from the opening taste to the aftertaste, some subtle flavor notes that I frankly couldn't identify. After I finished, it occurred to me that this is what Sam Adams Boston Lager should be -- it would be a great intro to craft beer for a novice.

Had this beer on cask at Bobbique's. It pours a thick, golden yellow color with a nice tight white head. The aromas are of fruits, spices, and grassy notes.

The flavor is very smooth. The hop bitterness is pronounced, but never overbearing. There are hints of a piney, grassy flavor. This beer doesn't get too sweet or too bitter. It remains a perfectly drinkable, balanced pale ale. Mouthfeel is full and creamy. Try this one if you get the chance.

On cask at Bobbique, this tasty pub ale poured a dark golden color with a fine and creamy one finger head. Nice but mellow aromas of floral hops, grain, and a sweet touch of caramel. Very pleasant flavors, sharp touch of bitterness plays on the tongue, perfect amount of light malt, and some sweet and spicy fruit notes. Extremely smooth and highly drinkable, this is something to drink all day on a lazy afternoon at the pub. Recommended.

The orangish golden ale poured easily into my 50cl glass with a gentle head that reminded me of soup foam when it was poured from too great a height. The first smell came alive with bitter hops and an interesting orange, wheat, and pepper taste came soon after. It clearly reminded me of an IPA style of beer, but there were other elements too.

I really liked the growler's serving of this ale and wished I could have taken the little 5 gallon keg home too.

On tap at the Blind tiger, this classic sessioner pours light and almost clear, with a fine bubble film for a head, fine and wispy lacing left behind. Delicate nose of grainy hops. This is an easy drinking, subtle and complex British style ale. Fine sessioner. Delicate and pleasant on the tongue. The kind of beer you could enjoy and quaff with most types of food and during any season of the year. Fine brew from the skilled brews of SHMPTN

I had this on tap at SPH.

Arrives a slightly hazy gold with a beautiful head of just off-white shaving cream. The head never dies, and there is great lacing. Carbonation looks soft.

Aroma is floral/earthy hops, clean and fruity, bready pale malt, and light toffee. This smells British, if you know what I mean.

The flavor is incredibly smooth, with a very pleasant hoppiness, spicy and earthy. Perfect hop bitterness. I can imagine this being served in a British pub. Kind of a light toasted, bready maltiness. Delicious beer. Aftertaste is hoppy, minerally, and dry.

Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy, no doubt from the nitro-tap. Full bodied, with a dry finish.

This is a real pounder. Very flavorful and delicious. I could drink this all day; it's a perfect session beer. I had one the next day for Sunday brunch.

A dark golden yellow beer with a slight haze. Has a nice creamy white head with good lace. There was a light grassy aroma with hints of grain in the background. The flavor starts out with a blast of a grainy malt character. Followed by a good hoppy bitterness that makes a good clean finish.

Sampled from a "creamer faucet", which I am assuming is a nitro tap, or maybe a nitro-tap that doesn't push nitro? Don't know, but if somebody wants me to fix the review I will.

Appearance: Between copper and brass color, slightly darker than the brass bar around the bar. 1/8 inch, creamy head. Each drink left a literal sheet of lacing around the glass. At its largest point the sheet was 2 inches high and simply defied gravity.

Smell: musty oak, dry malt, bisuity yeast, and minerals.Very, very British, like somebody combined the scents of a nitro and cask Brittish ale. Very distinctly Brittish yeast and mineral profile.

Taste: Mimicks the aroma with creamy malt, dry Brittish biscuity yeast, that distinct cask mineral profile and the creamy nitro flavor.

Mouthfeel: Very drying finish with a solid, creamy middle.

Drinkability: Wonderful. you could easily drink these all night. If there were so many other SPH beers to choose from, or you were a regular like the Brit next to me that quaffed down four while I was there.
