Not someone who gets terribly excited over porters this one wasn't bad. It's no old engine oil, which is my favorite porter to date, but it's good. I'm more of a stout drinker and when I saw imperial in the name, my expectations were set for something more robust than this. That said, it was enjoyable, just not my favorite profile.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Russian River tulip glass.

A: Very dark brown and nearly opaque. Has a thin tan head that fades fairly quickly and quite a bit of visible carbonation.

S: A mix of dark cacao and coffee primarily. Some tobacco, dark roasted malts and roasty bitterness.

T: Rich cacao with a nice bitter component. Less coffee, roasted maltiness, a touch nutty. Light roast and hop bitterness lasts into the hang.

M: The body is a touch on thin side for an "Imperial" porter. Average carbonation sensation and the alcohol presence is nicely integrated.

O: This was pretty good. Very roast-forward porter. Mouthfeel was a little thinner than I'd prefer, but an easy drink.
