Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a sturdy burnt orange to copper color with a quickly dissipating finger's worth of white foamy to bubbly head. Just a light touch of white sliding lace ran here and there.
The aroma steadies itself upon some pumpkin flesh bouncing upon some nutmeg/clove spices but they're quite faint mostly. Then a light biscuit/earthy to white bready aftertaste accompanies the end of it.
The flavor was moderately sweet pulling in the spices faintly and riding in on the biscuit/pumpkin sweetness. Light aftertaste of the pumpkin and nutmeg.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied, but seemed just a touch under with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt on par. Moderate pumpkin sweetness and a touch of nutmeg in the finish.
Overall, I say it was a pretty good pumpkin ale that I could come back to.

notes from my tasting back in Oct 2011. Typical pumpkin beer. Nothing overly memorable or fancy. Good for 1 or 2. Nice head on the glass after it was poured. Fruity aroma! Solid pumpkin flavor...some vanilla and other spices.

Bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed live. Purchased in Colorado (as part of a 6 pack).

HEAD: ~3 inches wide. Off-white. Fluffy and soft, with a good even consistency and a nice complexion. Retention is quite good - ~7 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Clear copper of above average vibrance. Clean, with no visible yeast.

Appears well-carbonated. A deeper hue would make it look better, and it's not unique or special, but it's definitely generally appealing for a pumpkin ale.

AROMA: Authentic pumpkin gourd is at the heart of this brew - no cloying pumpkin puree or extract here. The vanilla extract is faint, and somehow doesn't lend the aroma an artificial t(a)int. Spicewise, I get clove and maybe light nutmeg, but no cinnamon, ginger, or allspice. Malt backbone is of apt sweetness, and bends amber.

Aromatic intensity is average. Suggests a balanced pumpkin ale with average depth of flavour.

TASTE: The vanilla extract does lend this a kiss of artificiality on the back-end, and it isn't really necessary or helpful up front. But the pumpkin at the heart of this beer works well - and isn't that the main concern in a pumpkin beer? Again, the spice profile isn't real intricate...just some clove and nutmeg. It's fairly well balanced in spite of the vanilla extract, but the depth of flavour is a bit lacking, and it's far from complex for the style.

Quite enjoyable and likable, albeit far from unique or special.

TEXTURE: Medium-bodied, smooth, wet, well-carbonated, and of fair thickness and heft on the palate for the style. It isn't dialed in to the extent that it elevates the beer beyond its taste, and there isn't a perfect harmony of texture and flavour here, but it's generally well-executed.

OVERALL: It's a nice little pumpkin ale, and I'm glad I picked up a sixer of it, but it isn't on par with Southampton's best work, and there are many pumpkin ales I'd sooner buy again. Still, it's nice to see a straightforward pumpkin ale - a refreshing return to form after all the pumpkin porters I've seen this season. Worth trying, and easily above average.

Reasonably priced, being a fan of pumpkin ales, I picked this up, hearing good things about it. Well, gave it a try. Drank a few right from the bottle and then tested it from my Duvel tulip shaped glass. Here goes.

L: orangish, fizzy, nice head. The way a pumpkin ale should look.

S: decent pumpkin pie spices, maltiness, tad bit of vanilla. Blended together nicely.

T: Its rather good. Smooth, quite refreshing pumpkin spice taste. Little hints of pumpkin pie spices ranging from nutmeg , vanilla, pumpkin, little bit of hops. An okay beer, very sippable for a long night or watching a game.

F: Not the best, not the worst. Not heavy on carbonation which I hate and not watery either which I hate just as much. Its fairly okay, nothing to brag about. Slightly creamy finish which is kind of nice though.

O: Not your best but for the price, you can get a whole case of it for a decent price. If you get a case of Pumking you are going to pay a lot of money. This is half the price and you get more ale. Its good to sit back and have a few a night and enjoy for Halloween. Its not too strong, it wont knock you on your butt. Very nice but not your best as I said, lots better out there but this is worth a try.

Pours a clear orange with a little carbonation and a half inch of thin white head. The smell is pumpkin and spice . Tastes like a standard pumpkin beer. Not to sweet, not over spiced.
