Originally served at Crooked Ladder Brewery, recently acquired by Southampton Brewery into a conical pint glass. Recently retried at the Southampton Publick House in Southampton, NY.
A: Pours dark amber with a two finger, off white to wheat head and solid lacing all the way down the glass.
S: The nose is floral and spicy with strong caramel malt notes.
T: Semidry to dry. Palate follows nose with light citrus (more lemon than orange) and caramel, balanced by solid bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with good carbonation and crisp finish.
O: A bit more consistent with an East Coast than an English style IPA in the bottle, but clear English on tap. Solidly well made and held up well with seafood.

From one of New York state's best regarded breweries comes a 6.50% ABV "British India pale ale." I nabbed a bottle of this at a Whole Paycheck in Manhattan for $1.99 (per 12 fl oz).
APPEARANCE: Pours a fluffy off-white cap of good retention (~5-7 minutes) atop a clean clear copper body of average vibrance. Pretty standard fare for the style, with no unique or special attributes.
AROMA: More malty than many an IPA, with a very appealing toasty bend to it, indicating a nice selection of English malts. Caramalt, biscuit malt, pale malts. I get classic hop notes like muted citrusy rind, floral notes, a blip of hop oils, and hewn grass, along with some vague fruity notes. Estery English yeast. Bitterness doesn't seem as well balanced as would be ideal, with that rindy note seeming to punch through the malt sweetness. Pleasant and perfumey, promising a balanced English IPA with a limited depth of flavour.
Aromatic intensity is average.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Has a somewhat soft medium-bodied mouthfeel that coats the palate, emphasizing what little hop oils are present nicely, The rindy bitterness is nicely balanced out by the pleasant toasty English malt backbone, which is well-executed, replete with malty notes of biscuit, caramalt, and pale malts. Fruity esters from the yeast lend additional complexity to this otherwise straightforward ale. Some floral and fruity hop notes throughout. Slightly bready.
A bit too much bitterness does get past the malty sweetness in the third act bleeding into the finish, leaving the aftertaste a bit off-putting. Balance could be better dialed in.
Well-carbonated, slightly coarse, wet, unrefreshing.
OVERALL: A serviceable stab at an English IPA from the competent cats over at Southampton, Burton IPA is a little too bitter but most will find it pleasant and drinkable. I wouldn't seek it out at $1.99 a bottle (especially with American IPAs available for better prices and with more interesting hop profiles), but I'm glad I tried it once. No egregious faults, nor any unique or special characteristics.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
A thicky, frothy off white head drops slowly with abundant lacing. Color is hazy yellow-light amber with moderate streaming carbonation. Aroma of citrus rind and earthy hops and turned fruit, along with white bread dough. Medium bodied with a damp finish. Flavors of citrus rind, grapefruit, floral, along white bread and raisin in the background. A good English style IPA.

Pours a clear copper with plenty of foam sitting on top.
Smells of caramel malt, fruity, with a pleasant bitterness.
Kinda sweet and bready from the malt, hops bring fruity and flowery flavours.
Bottle has 06A16 stamped; I reckon that would be a best before vs bottled on date.

A nice amber with a small white head on the pour. Aroma is fruity with caramel malt notes. Taste is fruity, caramel malt, some toasted grains followed by some herbal hops bitterness. Palate is medium body with good carbonation, light crisp mouth feel. Finishes with a nice caramel malt flavor, fruity, some grains and mild citrus herbal hops for balance. It a good British style IPA for drinking.
