UPDATE / EDIT [12-26-06]

My second visit, but this time during the cold winter season. Enjoyed several great beers including the Imperial Porter & Old Herb Barleywine (finally!). Also enjoyed an excellent dinner in the pub. Our waitress and bartender were GREAT. Service rating has increased.

[07-27-06]

After spending two days in Patchogue it was time to get in the car and head east. A quick 30 minute drive lead us to Southampton Publick House in the heart of Southampton. Upon entering I got that small town, upscale village feel.

We were greeted by the hostess and given the option to sit inside or outside on the patio. Since it was a beautiful July afternoon, we decided to chill outside on the patio.

The beer selection was presented nicely on the menu. There were four regular staples that included the Montauk Light, Southampton Pale Ale, Southampton Secret Ale and Golden Ale. The "seasonal" options were the IPA, Espresso Stout and Steem Beer. The Steem beer was described as "like the Anchor Steam beer, but lighter." There were also 4 oz sample options too.

I also noticed that there were "cellar" options available. This consisted of such beauties as the Double White Ale, May Bock and Imperial Porter. It was around 90 degrees outside and the Double White Ale sounded like a thirst quenching option.

I tried the Espresso Stout, IPA, Southampton Pale Ale and the Double White Ale. Wow! Every beer I tried was so incredibly fresh and well crafted. The Double White Ale was presented in a 22 oz brown bottle and served in a nice tulip shaped pilsner glass.

The menu offers options like salads, wraps, sandwiches and entrees. The party that I was with sampled a variety of food including the fried calamari, chicken wrap and salad.

I tried the mussels, which were described by someone I was with as "out of the world" and I fully agreed. Every bite of anything I ate was so friggin' good. Without question, the food here is above average from any brewpub that I've ever been to. I had the tuna burger with remoulade and it was awesome.

Service was solid. Our waitress was friendly, responsive and welcoming. The bar inside is borderline perfect. I would love to re-visit and clock in some quality time there. A big chalkboard outlines all of the info for draft and bottles selections available.

There is a mini fridge that has beer to go. The IPA & Secret Ale were there in six packs and then the impressive beers like the Grand Cru, Old Herb Barleywine, May Bock and Imperial Porter in either 22 oz or 750 ML bottles. You can also purchase shirts, hats, glassware, etc.

This place is phenomenal and strongly recommended if you are out east on Long Island. I was super impressed with the overall quality of beer and food at the Southampton Publick House. Check this place out.

I'm lucky that Publick House is located so close to my family home because these are the beers that helped get me into the craft beer scene.

I've been drinking their beers for the better part of a decade now and I swear that I've never had a beer from them that I disliked. Even after they got a new brewmaster I still enjoy all their beers.

They have a very nice location in between the train station and the town proper. They decor of the brewpub is very nice with ample space at the bar and extra indoor and outdoor seating as well. I often enjoy sitting in the dining area because I enjoy looking at the brewing equipment.

There service is decent, the servers usually don't know a lot about beer but they are always keen to tell me when I'm ordering one of their 750ml bottles.

My only real beef with the place is the food itself. Their burgers and fries are lousy in my opinion, Ive had wings served to me there that were clearly left in the frier for too long and my favorite dish, the Po' boys, is often drowned in their sauce.

But on the bright side everything at Publick House is reasonably priced.

Even with the food being what it is I love this place.
