Overall, Moose & Squirrel falls just a tad short on the RIS stature. Though it is nice, it lacks an intensity for its roasted and bitter qualities. Its sweetness and creaminess are quite wonderful, but perceive this to be more of an imperial stout or even strong oatmeal stout rather than an in your face Russian Imperial Stout. Still worth a go. Cheers!

Sampled at Boise’s Imperial Stout get together, over 120 bottles to choose from. Going with the flow on this rating, palate overload, but a pretty solid RIS.

Black with woody brown edges and a thin tan blanket.
Smell is nutty, roasty, malty and smokey.
Taste is tangy, nutty, with raisin, dark malt, soy, toffee, and turtle confection.

Picked up a 22 oz bottle from the Belmont Station in late August for $8.31. Not sure if this is a 2015 or 2014 edition.
Beer poured black with a very nice tan head that is leaving some lacing behind.
Nose is mocha and lightly roasted malts.
Taste is lightly roasted malts and dark chocolate, a hint of dark fruits lingers in the background. There is enough hopping present to balance things out nicely.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.
Overall this is one of the easier drinking RIS i have ever had. Suspect part of that is attributable to the age but i do like the base beer. Reminds me of a bigger version of Obsidian Stout.

Dark brown with a cherry edge and plenty of dark beige foam in the Ciney snifter. Some dark caramel aromas with woody, charred grain. A pleasant spritziness in the mouth.
Thick and malty but not overly sweet. A chalky sort of sensation along with a serious burnt taste. The hops do not show off much in the way of aromatics, but the bitterness is pervasive. There is flash of malty sweetness followed by a charred taste that edges toward a sourish note in the aftertaste. Bitter chocolate and a dry finish. Just that bit of warm cedar at the start.
Overall this is dark, brooding, and bitter. Quite sippable, but it's not the sweet malt bomb more often encountered in this style. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

22oz bottle at 41 F split between a pair of snifters. Bottle doesn't have any dates or codes that I can find, but it's not corked/caged, and it shows 8.6% abv.
Pours black with a small brown head. Fine, slow carbonation. Smell is sweet, nutty, black licorice.
Taste is roasty bitterness, coffee bitterness, chocolate bitterness, black licorice. That aromatic sweetness is missing, but would be nice here.
Mouthfeel is a little bit thin (for a Russian Imperial Stout). Overall, nice, tasty beer.
