Had this in September 2016 on the booze bus on the way to 2 SF Giants games. I like this whole you drive 5 hours and we'll get crunk thang.

Pours black, good tan head in the plastic cup about 1/3". Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Everything is right and as expected in the world at this time.

Taste pairs a good amount of chocolate malt notes with the various coffee and espresso pushings. Little hint of tartness to it like they dropped a cranberry or two in the beer. Also some mild nuttiness and caramel to it. Has a good thickness to it without going overboard with the heft of sludge or going the imperial route. Good carbonation on it.

Its pretty good, not going to shatter any coffee beer paradigms, but its reliable and drinkable in many different occasions. Pushed the trip along quite nicely.

22oz bottle

Pours a nice brown head into my nitro glass, almost two fingers. Pretty pillowy, but I can also hear it fizzing quite aggressively. Body is completely black, even when held to the light. Looks ok so far.

No bottle date, but Laurelwood's website says "this years" batch has Mexican and other south American coffee in it. Dark chocolate is present, but mostly really roasty on the nose. Some malty roast, but a lot of coffee roast. Pretty well balanced between dry, bitter roast, and sweet malt. Maybe a touch of southern spices, but not too much. This is a nice, clean coffee nose, with a good balance.

The flavor here is pretty safe. Mild coffee flavors up front, lead way to a pretty sweet finish, possibly too sweet. Not a terrible amount of chocolate, and not very bitter either. More bitterness would have been nice here, to cut the sweetness. It's a fine flavor, but the nose had more depth to it.

The beer is lightly carbonated, with a somewhat thin body. Not terrible here, but again, I'd hope for something a little bigger and better.

The drinkability is very high. It's a pretty light stout, and there isn't anything off putting about the flavor.

The appearance turned out less than impressive. Basically zero lacing, accompanied by a head that had sub par retention. Not fantastic.

There is nothing terribly wrong here, this is a very safe beer, I wouldn't mind drinking it again. However it's not winning any awards for complexity or depth. Decent coffee beer.

Poured from a 22-ounce bottle black under a 2-inch thick tan head which fades to a thin cap and leaves semi-rings and splotches of lace. Aroma is dominated by dark roasted coffee, nutty, earthy and mild cocoa. Flavor follows the nose with mostly roast. Semi-full body and moderate carbonation. Finishes rich, creamy and roasty.

22 oz. bottle - poured into a tulip glass:

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of strong coffee/espresso with a touch of caramel.

The taste is of dark-roasted coffee/espresso. Sweet dark malt balances it enough to know it's a stout.

Creamy, it hits full-bodied.

A brew for beer and coffee lovers! Nice mix of espresso and stout.
