Real dark stuff here, black, thin head, 1/5" deep. Impressive color. More roasted malt coffee bitterness, than chocolate impressions aroma wise.

Same way in the taste, its bitter, and there is a dark fruit aspect to it, like a RIS more than an American double stout. Has that coffee shop vibe of cigarettes, tobacco, leather, licorice in the faintest way. Chewy mouthfeel. Not bad, but not going to change the way you think about stouts either, definitely has that export stout vibe, ashy, earthy, smoke shop.

Wonderful mouth feel. Really complex and deep. So often now folks are focused on Barrel aged stouts.... it's really nice to see such a deep, complex and flavorful one without the aid of barrel aging.

Review from notes. Black color with dark brown head. Aroma has dark fruits and a slight cinnamon note. Taste is very balanced between sweet and bitter. First you get the fruit flavor, cherries stand out, and on the finish you get coffee. Smooth, heavy body with the alcohol hidden very well. A very well made imperial stout with complex taste.

Dark, vinous and muscular with loads of chocolate, anise and melanoidin aromatics framed in mature dark coffee notes that sail through the long, coating finish. Shows tremendous power, ageing potential and dish versatility.

Enjoyed from a bottle, this imperial stout pours a thick as midnight black with a decent head with a vigorous pour and decent lacing. Nose of inviting chocolate, sweet dark malts, black coffee, rich roasted grains, and alcohol. Flavors are chocolate and dark molasses up front, chocolate to the back and sides, and an overall sweetness that is not cloying in the least. Smooth mouth feel and mild carbonation makes this sipper a winner.
The only shame is that the "one Danish crown given to the atheist society" is not given to a more noble cause like many Abbey ales do.....as in "good works" I.E. THE POOR....not money to people who complain. Overall though I would put this gem up against any imperial stout.
